*Knife Review of the RUIKE P801-SF!* (Honest opinion on a classic)

This is a video review on the Ruike P801SF. The knife features stainless frame scales with a frame lock system. The blade runs on washers, and is deployed by duel thumbstuds or a flipper tab. Blade steel is the fantastic 14C28N. Blade shape is a standard shape that features a full flat grind.

I think it's important to remember that this knife was released at a time when budget knives were not expected to have good flipper action, or to offer bearings. It's been around a long time. This knife took about a week for me to bed in and develop proper action but I've personally never had issues with the flipper tab or framelock. Early budget Chinese knives tend to have an industrial and overbuilt feel and they value utilitarian operation over fast, light flipper deployment. I just wouldn't call it slow though. When it was released it was likened to a poor man's sebenza. Anyway, for its price there are probably more offerings today that match or exceed it but still very few knives in stainless steel which feel solid and come in 14C28N - and for this cheap price. It's probably the perfect beginners knife, in the sense that if you could 'learn' how to flip or thumbstud deploy on this knife, you can use any knife.

I got one of these just before lockdown. It was an epic work knife. Nothing fancy. Good lines and no plastic. Sold it to help some friends and it is one that is still on my list to replace.

….owned and carried the P801 black washed for about 4 years. It’s on bearings. Solid and deploys fast. Been buying new knives in 30-50 dollar range and this knife almost always ends up in my pocket. Excellent carry, the more you use it better it gets still a bargain at $35 🤪

I don't know this knife, I don't have a great interest in this knife. But as a mechanical engineer I can say that in many products, especially cheaper ones, just because a certain steel is stated, does not mean it's the actual steel. Many times we'd request (and indeed have to according to ISO depending on client requirements) material certificates from the steel vendor to assure the steel is what they say it is. Just something to keep in mind. I'm not saying this is the case and not bashing the knife.

Thank you! Definitely an informative comment and very true, I have seen some reviewers send their knives to be steel tested (a good practice when dealing with a new company if you have the means) and I can only imagine the damage a company will take if their steel composition should end up to be something different from what was stated.

I have one of these. Your fingers are way stronger than mine - I cannot use the thumb studs at all. But I really like the flipper action. If I had a drill press, I would drill some holes in the handle for better grip. I got mine for $20 and I think it was a great deal.

The p801 is a value at 30usd. 14c and pretty good cutting geometry for 30 bucks is really hard to beat. I think the ruike "Fang" at 35usd is the best knife... BTW 154cm has significantly more edge retention then 14c28n but 14c28n us significantly tougher then 154cm.

Dis n goeie staal ja. Hy is equavalent aan Aus-8 maar D2 is beter oor die algeheel. Sy ergonomics is heel gaaf maar gladde scales gaan gly... Daai gate is om stress fakture te voorkom sodat die staal nie daar skeur of kraak nie. Ek dink dis n goeie mes maar average in alles... Gebou tot n pryspunt as jy verstaan wat ek bedoel.
