This is a hype vs reality video on the Ruike P801 pocket knife. I talk about the reasons for wanting to purchase the knife, and the reality once I received and used the knife. I do size comparisons, and show some footage of me using it.

I bought one last summer and love it. My wife even liked it, the blue clip got her. Not intimidating it seems, so I bought the black one which is covert looking and having one for "no scaring the public days" and one for other days is great. Had the first one sharpened and it came back even sharper than factory, which was very sharp. Flipper action is %100 and frame lock is great. Deep carry is so nice and the profile is slim with no pocket pecker issues. I'm in Canada so I was surprised at the price, and for being able to get a "Flipper" with all the panic over knife laws. All said, I recommend this. Oh, the black has a bit more handle grip too. Also, as my work knife, I have a Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight with S110V, it kills.

Myles Mundle Thanks for your comment and views here. I am not at all surprised that you and your wife love this knife, it has so many great things going for it. The 14c28n is a great steel, and takes a smokin edge. The Manix 2 Lw is a beast of a knife, and an excellent performer. It easily could’ve been my performer of the year (I have the Maxamet version), and really it did in one of my takes of my top 5 vid haha. It’s a stellar choice for a work knife, and S110 is a great steel.

I would agree that the ergonomics aren't as good as some similarly sized blades, and it could be lighter. The trade off is what for me is a minor hit in ergos in exchange for one of the most compact knives in the pocket of that blade length, and it even has a a deep carry clip. Few knives I've seen really compete with that aspect of it, especially in the price range. What it comes down to is how much time does your knife spend in your pocket vs in your hand. It is a pocket knife after all, but if you do end up using yours a lot it might very well be worth it to carry around something with a chunkier handle, maybe even a fixed blade.

Good review with some valid points. I like this knife as a sort of gents carry for light tasks. For hard use there are better options as you stated. Cheers🤘

I have the blacked out stoned washed version of this knife, I just did a sharpening video on it just can't upload yet bc internet situation. I love this knife it just has that hotspot on the flipper tab when you grasp it. I don't mind the weight because I wear steel toes and carry a midsized Glock everything I have is heavy. And my mirror polish was dull as hell too

Over all I like this knife. Mine came very sharp. It would absolutely flay you open if you put any pressure on it at all. As far as weight..it's stainless steel, no great surprise there. Over travel..yes, you can push it to far, but honestly, most people are not going to torque down on it. I just put enough pressure to release the lock. And yes, forget using the thumb studs....you have to position your fingers just right to do it, so just use the flipper tab. My only complaint, is the SS scales are slick as hell. If you have any oils in your skin, or sweat, it is slick. I would prefer either G10 , or even nylon like the Rat's.Other than that, it's a very good knife.Smooth action, and a good slicer. Ergo's are good..not spectacular, but still comfortable for my hand anyway. The jimping is well done, and helps with the slippery feeling scales. It's a good beater knife, that isn't to expensive, so you can beat it up and not be too concerned about ruining one of your expensive models.

Tim Gannon Totally man... I do agree with you. I didn’t expect it to be light, and I’m not going to break or bend the lock bar or anything. Just pointing out observations I had... So many options out there in this price point, but at this price point, you could get them all! That’s the nice thing👍 someone else on these comments said they got the black stonewashed version and it had more traction to it, but I never handled one, so I don’t know if that’s true. Thanks for your thoughts here✌️

You could always put some skateboard tape on the handle... There is also stuff like skateboard tape made out of rubber so it's not a scratchy.

If I ever get a drill press, I might skeletonize mine by drilling and chamfering some holes. Then again, the weight of the handle does give it a nice balance, and it's not to the point where I really mind carrying it. The one problem I have with mine is that the detent softened up after several months, so I don't carry it in certain pockets. Factory edges don't really bother me unless they're messed up, like lopsided or recurved by the heel, and I don't need an overtravel stop.

It's a great 940 alternative for someone on a budget... Both are nice gentlemen folders and it's a fraction of the price... Not as good of blade steel but it's really not far off at all. Considering this knife is 30 bucks compares to 200 bucks it's a great option. It also seems fairly light for SS of that size. I'm glad they went with such a thin profile otherwise it would've been very hefty.

If they just made this knife in a smaller version, I would buy a bunch of them. I'd like a 2.85" blade instead of a 3.5" I have so many 4" body knives with 3.5" blades. The difference in a smaller one is massive when your carrying it all day! So much more comfortable. I love full flat grinds and this is one of the few that are not expensive. D2 or 14c or 16 c blades are fine. I'm just tired of thick heavy knives for edc. I have heavy thick fixed blades for hard work. I don't need one that heavy/large for edc.in my pocket all day.

I just bought this exact knife and the Kershaw Westin which was I think under $20 from blade hq should be here in a few days. Definitely worth it for prices it is a little heavy but I kinda like a heavier knife sometime let’s me know when I’m working with solid knife for how chap it is I’m ok with i almost got the cutt jack but I wanted heft. Your almost giving me buyers remorse and I haven’t got it in the mail yet with the lock bar

ThumbNAIL studs are nice and the detent is near perfect in execution. The flipper has a trigger break crispness. There no flipper travel like an actual firearm but the break from the detent feels crisp and the frame resonates a satisfying click when the tang locks up with the frame. I've modified my presentation side scale and have some etching ideas that will make it corporate tacticle style.

I have this knife and the knife is very very sharp right out of the box unlike some of those overpriced knives that I owned. I have used this knife for hours of cutting paper boxes at work and I have no issues with hot sports even though I wasn’t wearing any gloves. I don’t understand why you are bitching too much about this knife. I don’t think this is an honest review of this knife in my own opinion.
@inthepocket7405

Win Aung I can understand why you love this knife, and tried to reiterate as much as I could that this was just my opinion and impression. I had a lot of positives as well. It also was the example I got, which, with a knife at this price range, the quality probably varies significantly. I see quality variance, in fit and finish, factory grind, sharpness out of box, etc., in knives that are a lot more expensive than this. Is it that surprising that I might have got one that was buffed dull? Sharpness is also a relative term, and you saw that it still cut paper, but wouldn’t cut my skin. Sorry if I had negatives on a knife you love.... that’s why it’s all opinion, and I try to be objective, but it’s still My hands. My opinion... That’s why try to show the size of my hands, and do size comparisons. I appreciate you watching, and appreciate your comment and views. Thanks

I always laugh at people bitching about .8 oz. I like stability and durability in a knife and if that costs .8 of an oz, it is a easy choice. I was pleasantly surprised by this knife. I normally carry a Kershaw (blur). I am liking the thin profile and durability of the Ruike, so I will give the ruike a tour of duty in my rotation.

thanks for the review. I've bought knives after seeing rave reviews from all the knife channels and sometimes I was left disappointed with what I got. the last one was the Bestech Paladin......everyone loves it but I wasn't too thrilled with it. I'm in Canada so budget knives aren't so much a budget here

Danny L what do you not like about the Paladin? Just curious because it’s in my top 5 for budget knives. For me too 5 right now for budget folders is Civivi Praxis, Bestech Paladin, Kershaw Atmos, Ruike P801 and the Tangram Vector.

@@AlexanderSLeBlanc mine was super stiff to open and the flipper tab gives me blisters on my girly hands. also I found the knife to be too slippery I did what I normally do to all my knives. I take them apart, polish everything, dehorn them, add texture to smooth slippery surfaces, oil and reassemble......all my knives are users so I need something that's comfortable to use and not give me blisters budget Chinese knives need the most work. I guess you get what you pay for

At $37.95 in Canada, it's a budget knife lol. Considering the blade steel and bearings, nothing else comes close in that price range. Not crazy about any of the Ruike knives. Just did not see anything that l wanted on their website.

I collect balis but getting into flippersw And I bought this nice because it reminds me of my 0 tolerance 0450. And I'm looking for an everyday carry something to beat off something that cut with you know not to collect so I didn't watch the video yet but I'm guessing that the height versus reality means that people think that this knife is like in a be worth something in the future when is actually just hype and it's not and it's just that good EDC knife like a Mini 0 tolerance sign a version of fairings bearing I mean. I have a question I seen case knives CG01 conto and it's more expensive than a bench made I've also bought up kubi 51 and a gonzo with the access law will you can just drop the release. Would you say case knives the Tonto red version all the shock to would go up in value in the future or is it a fact the reproduction night? I'm new to flippers because I recently collected butterfly so I know a lot about that but flippers I'm just getting into. What's funny is I think that rig assisted became less popular then bury knives like these not based on fact.

Bucks spitfire is another good budget knife. S30v with brushed aluminum handles in different colors for 50 bucks. Its made in the USA to top it all off. They make them in a bunch of different steels but the s30v is a copperansclad exclusive. It's a nice knife too though it's not a flipper though it's just a work knife with a backlock. Came extremely sharp and broke in nice. It's not on bearings and isn't super smooth compared to a flipper but it's easily opened and closed one handed.

You just need a better edge geometry on that knife. Thin out the edge and put a micro-bevel on it. It will be fine. It really is a great steel. Take your time with it.

"The lady doth profess too much!" If what you need is something to cut cardboard, all you need is an art knife with replaceable blades. A knife is a little more than that, so personal tastes and likes matter as well as the size of one's hands. That being said, the 801 is my first knife and it cut my finger sitting in my pocket, tip up. The detent is a little soft. I like a bit of heft in a knife, and thought it wasn't heavy enough. It is a nice clean design; surgical-looking. It whips out and closes smoothly without any adjustments. What I didn't like about it was that it felt like a liner knife that was all liner and no scales. Scales! Grippy scales! I wanted something to really wrap my hands around. So began my knife addiction. Because, no one knife is going to be the perfect knife regardless what everyone or anyone says good...or bad about it.

That is flat out nonsense. I have knives from $10 to $1000. This knife is way ahead of its price point. It looks and feels like a $250 knife and both of mine came absolutely perfect. Mirror razor sharp, perfect centering, fall shut action and flawlessly machined. It’s more of a gentleman than a heavy use, it’s not a Cold Steel, it’s a thin pocketable little slicer. 14c28n is a fantastic steel for $30. I love it.
