Excellent review... I'll truly consider this in the near future

The Brous Blades Silent Soldier gotta be among 10 best neck knives ever made at least. This knife inherited that pedigree.

This just convinced me to get one. Is the steel worse or better than the original Brous?
@matthewadler13293 жыл бұрын
Out of everything that Brous has designed *that I'm aware of, this is the only one that has really captured my intrigue. Descriptions often use the term "fantasy" which I dont think is accurate. Seems like a very practical design for both defense and utility. I've just been wondering about the geometry. Does this thing cut well. obviously it's not a slicing design, but is it just super thick? I like pretty much everything about it, including that steel choice. D2 is obviously a really good steel, but for this, I think the stainless 9cr is a smart choice. It's a good steel, even if people try to lump in in with the inferior yet adequate 8cr.

the Fred Perrin design is realy the best way to build a compact but save knife!

mine did not come very sharp at all. And when you look down from the tip you could tell that one side was much steeper of a grind then the other. Maybe mine had a defect. I spent a while sharpening it today and got it much sharper. However, it can still not shave hair

however mine does clip into the sheath with a very positive kydex like click. I found it slides right in if you keep the spine of the knife against the top inside of the sheath

I wonder if "lifted422" has a fake copy. I'm actually getting this knife tomorrow. I have several neck knives, but I think it will be a belt knife for a fixed blade EDC.

Dano DeMano I wondered the same. And WHAT exactly is he doing with it to make it "rust constantly"?? I would suggest strictly using this as a concealed carry tactical defense weapon rather than a work and utility knife....

Crappy 5cr steel but a fine defense knife.

If I shave down the sides to make it thinner will the sheath still hold it?
@matthewadler13293 жыл бұрын
For sure

I've heard that the steel at the heel is so tin that it could break or snap, way thinner than the silent soldier. How do you think it'll hold up long term?
@jakehansen34187 жыл бұрын
TacticalTimmy12 mines held up great no problems with the weak spot.

I think the silent soldier is thinner.. better steel though

Is it good for self defense? Because the other edge looks like it won't penetrate very well
@matthewadler13293 жыл бұрын
It's clearly not designed for deep penetration like a dagger, but you'll certainly gonna have no trouble puncturing soft targets, which can be a good thing depending on how you look at it. If you need lethal stopping power, it's not ideal. If you just need something to create distance, its gonna do that just fine. All depends on what you need. Maybe consider a push dagger like the Cold Steel safe maker.

I carry this as a neck knife it came really dull and rusts constantly
@sherman6149 жыл бұрын
lifted0422 Edges can vary of course, I've had pretty good luck with SOG however. That's odd about the rusting though!
@lifted04229 жыл бұрын
I STILL LOVE THE DESIGN
@johngraham98168 жыл бұрын
yes mine can dull with one side of the edge noticeably steeper than the other
@johngraham98168 жыл бұрын
still an awesome design, I carry it on me and forget its there until I need it. Just takes a bit of sharpening which I'm not the best at

reasonably priced? its 30 dollars for 5 inches of stainless steal
@sherman6148 жыл бұрын
+Angelo Ralph That is well made, and comes with a sheath. $30 for a well made knife is very reasonable. Now if you're not a knife guy then yes it may seem unreasonable
@bri_oni8 жыл бұрын
sherman614 its well designed, i could understand paying 100+ for something like this if it was handmade by about 1, or a small group of people like how i assume the silent soldier is made, but this is mass produced. im sure sog uses machines to make these, even if they dont they still have a lot of people producing these, it takes sog much less time to make these, and probably much less money too
@sherman6148 жыл бұрын
Angelo Ralph $30 is not a lot of money, especially for a knife, trust me. Yes, Wal-mart sells Browning knives for $10, but they do not hold a candle to the kind of fit and finish even this $30 knife has. It's par for the course in the knife world, like it or not.
