From Work Sharp, the Guided Field Sharpener: It's my go-to knife sharpener for touching up my blades because it works better than all others I've tried in its class. Thanks for sharing.

Been using it for a couple of weeks now and I have to admit that this is an excellent product, thoughtfully designed and meticulously executed. The price is very reasonable too.

This is not working on my leatherman mut, kabar bk2 and gerber ghostrike, can someone help me ?
@unclecoco20827 жыл бұрын
i have had one of these for a couple of years now and rate it very highly for small/medium knives, I always take it with me fishing and its great on my kitchen knives, my only gripe is, as something meant to be taken into the field it should come with a protective pouch of some kind, doesn't have to be much just a bit of light weight nylon stuff like they use in light weight backpacks

Will this sharpen my knife if it already has a convex edge on it from the Ken Onion workshop?

I have one of these and love it! Hey Doug what was that first knife in the video you were sharpening???

Am sorry but this system was horrible! Dulled my 551 griptilian and a Spyderco para 3. I watched this video a bunch of times and it just kept getting worse. Maybe I got a faulty unit or the stones were of bad quality. Will stick with the sharpmaker.
@JohnDoeEagle13 жыл бұрын
The good old fashioned Spyderco Sharpmaker and Wicked Edge sharpeners are far and away superior to most of this other junk. In nearly 40 years I have tried them all and settled on these 2. Why, you ask? Because they both work and don't ruin your knives.
@harf8493 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoeEagle1 I agree. The sharpmaker saved the day in my case and I actually use it for high end knives (CRK, Hinderer).
@grovesy3332 жыл бұрын
User error you clearly didn’t use it properly ive repaired a chip where the tip was and sharpened my friends para 3 with this thing no problem whatsoever, I’ve sharpened my axe and machete with this thing no problem too

Is it typical to do coarse at 20 degrees and then fine at 25 degrees? What is the result of this method?
@tonycanniffe23606 жыл бұрын
Alexander Gilman It's called a micro bevel. It's supposed to act a bit like a convex bevel that the belt sander puts on a knife. The idea is that the edge will be a stronger than a pure V bevel. (That you would typically achieve on a guided edge system like the Lansky.) I don't think the addition of a micro bevel is necessary if you are freehand sharpening. It is extremely difficult to keep the angle precise. Therefore you end up with a convex bevel anyway. Heaps of vids on sharpening on YT

How do the ceramic rods compare to the Spyderco rods in terms of coarseness? Is the Work Sharp Fine similar to the Spyderco Fine? Or, does anyone know some rough grit ranges of the Fine and Course? Thanks!

I bought this sharpener a couple months ago but have yet to attempt to use it..I started collecting knives a couple years ago and have a decent collection most of which are in “super steels” S30V,S35VN,LC200N,M390,20CV,204P,Maxamet,Cruwear,S110V,S90V,etc all of which have pretty good edge retention.I usually buy at least a knife or 2 every month and my knives are used for cutting boxes,tape,plastic straps,zip ties,etc..I have knives I use for camping and hunting which I don’t get to do nearly as often as I would like to..since I’m a complete amateur when it comes to sharpening a knife,I usually use my guided Lansky sharpening system,it does ok with steels like 1095,SK5,N690,VG10,420HC,440C,etc but my Lansky doesn’t have diamond stones so it’s really not cut out for the higher end stainless knives..I bought this particular sharpener because I wanted to actually learn how to sharpen a knife without having to depend on a guided system to do it for me and this was recommended as a good starting point.Im here to make sure I know how to properly use this thing before I get started with it.Im going to practice with it so I don’t have to depended on a complete guided system 100% of the time...with that being said,after seeing the new Work Sharp precision sharpener which is essentially the KME and other high end sharpening systems at a fraction of the price so I will be ordering it as soon as I find it in stock.I will use it on my higher end knives while I learn and build my confidence with this Work Sharp field sharpener

Can you get a mirror edge with this sharpener.
@Chase12973 жыл бұрын
I've been skipping the coarse ceramic. I've noticed that I'm losing sharpness going from fine diamond to fine ceramic. I will try to stop skipping the coarse ceramic and see if that helps
