This is legit. One of the issues I've had with some of the stuff many instructors are teaching is what you guys just demonstrated. Static draw works great on a one-way range where cardboard is your only foe. When faced with real threats mobility equals survivability. Thanks for the vid!

What people don't realize is that knives leave bigger wounds than handguns. The knife has infinitely more killing power than a handgun; yes, the guy with the gun definitely got shots off just about simultaneously with the guy reaching him with the knife, but that doesn't mean that he's incapacitated the knife guy before he could get good enough cuts in.

Not to mention if the guy with the knife either tackles the guy with the gun or grabs ahold of the pistol, the guy with the gun is screwed.

I suppose one important thing is having the training to aim and fire the gun accurately in such a sudden high stress situation while trying to move clear of the blade holder's reach.

Big problem however. People don't die that easily. Unless you tap their brain or nape. Humans can survive a lot. Stabbing first or shooting first doesn't mean you win.

He had a tucked in shirt, and no holster, you were having to move your shirt to gain access to the knife. Even with those fractions of seconds disadvantage, you did awesome. Sadly, there's a lot of talk in here about still shooting after being stabbed. Guys, if you're going against somebody that knows what they're doing, you aren't just getting stabbed once, it's a constant nonstop barrage until you stop moving. Do your best to get off a shot, but don't have an unrealistic Hollywood view of a knife fight, where the guy stabs once, and leaves the knife inserted in the body. In other words, distance is safety, keep an attacker at distance, don't let them get close to you. Even in this vid, the knife attacker would've died, but he also would've inflicted kidney damage that would've required surgery with those attacks.

ive heard that a much more realistic/useful shirt-clearing method is to use the draw hand to pull the shirt up, twist and pin it with your forearm, then reach down and draw, while the free hand stays extended to defend. takes slightly more time, but helps prevent knife strikes/punches from free access to your personal space.

Cool game. Something never mentioned during knife vs gun stuff 21 ft rule whatever. Even if the knife is faster and gets the target, the likelyhood of the person being stopped instantly from being stabbed and not able to fire the gun is very slim. Even if the guy with the knife stabs the guy with the gun they will most likely still take a round or two to the chest. Where as if the guy with the gun gets a round off before the knife guy closes the distance it is far more likely they are stopped before they can stab. Not definate but enough of a probability I will still always choose a fire arm given the option.

Actually...the 21ft rule is often mentioned and often misrepresented. Even the name itself is misleading...it isn't a rule at all. There have been many case studies that validate and also debunk the 21ft rule since it was introduced by Tueller.

Well, there are a number of different factors to take into consideration. One is that a gun is a grabable object. If the guy with the knife grabs ahold of the pistol with his free hand to keep it pointed away from him, he's getting a bunch of stabs in. A knife isn't a grabable object. Another consideration is that knife wounds are worse than gunshot wounds. If you get stabbed in a vital artery, you could lose as much as a pint of blood in a matter of seconds. At that rate of blood loss, you're going to be extremely light headed and disoriented, given that you're still conscious at all. In that situation, you may not have the mental capacity to fight back or draw your pistol.

Just a theory but why not train to cut off the movement toward the drawing hand? Seems like you can train to incorporate a system where that is the condition for strike movement.

I usually Prefer a knife!.....Grew up with MMA, lots of fights..... and quickly found out Down and Dirty Speed always wins....There's WAY too much Fantasy Cowboy bullshit with guns, giving people a False sense of confidence, That is the problem. Most people just DON'T put in the absurd Hours of training you Need with guns as well.(like police officers do)..... I absolutely prefer CCW for specific situations!....but it's also a Massive liability in most states today.

What’s with the reverse grip on the knife? This isn’t an anime. Pull it out and lunge forward with it pointed. It’s a funny game but the guy with the knife isn’t just going to stand still while he’s pulling out said knife. If you’re this close to someone with a knife you’re already in a tough spot where you’re most going to be stabbed so atleast try and take out the threat so you can get to a hospital quickly.
@kodain
@kodain 2 жыл бұрын
A forward grip would require either a horizontal waist setup or a cross draw from the hip. Cross draw is stupid because you'd be leading with the butt, the distance is so close that you won't be building momentum for a diagonal slash, and it's free for the opponent to trap your arm across your chest. The horizontal waist setup could lead to a fast draw into a frontal stab, but that would still be a straight line attack, and what are you targeting, exactly? Thrusting up below the ribs on a moving target? Right into the belly? The second factor is the range they're in: Grappling range. This is where a reverse grip is in its forte, allowing for powerful downward stabs, hooking, horizontal cutting, and stabs behind the target into key areas. Blade forward is better when you got the range for it, reverse grip is for close range. GN also does shuffle a little bit to build up his attack's momentum. He could've have moved more off-axis, or tried to establish weapon arm control, but this is just a game that illuminates two things: Movement is important, and pistols are bloody scary even in close-quarters. Even if they tried to do this as if it was a real fight, realistically speaking they'd both die, or the pistol user would come out on top.
@diAx007
@diAx007 2 жыл бұрын
The game is not very similar to reality. 1) Why doesn't the guy with the knife attack the armed hand (where the gunner evades), but tries to catch up with him? 2) Why does he grab the knife with a reverse grip? 3) Why doesn’t he attack in the neck, because the hands of the shooter are lowered 4) Why doesn’t the knifeman go into the dead zone behind the opponent’s hand 5) Why is the same technique every time?
