I like the Chive and the Leek. I gave one too a coworker because we opened a lot of boxes. The assisted opener came open in his pocket and he cut himself. He went right back to using a box cutter. I know there are locks on them but remember he was a newbie.

Love the handle of the M4/Aluminum Bailout, my personal steak knife of choice right now is a shaving sharp Spyderco Manix2. Not great for having company over, but it just glides through everything from tri-tip to ribeye. Brother and I got my dad knives for father's day. (not planned) Brother got him a Kershaw Blur, I got him a Civivi Brazen. His EDC for the last 4 years had been a box cutter that he changed the blade on maybe twice? After he figured out the liner lock (boomer moment) he declared "That little flipper tab is really neat and easy!" The kershaw stays in his center console.

Worksharp field sharpener is awesome for the guy that asked for portable easy sharpener. Yeah, it's kinda like a stone sharpener, but gives guides to make it easy and also compact full design with multiple grits, ceramic hone, and strop. The diamond plates are quite good, and durable, in my use, as well.

Thank you for covering comfortable or ergonomic folding knife handles. Its an obscure thing I am on a mission to find myself. Ideally, you want a neutral handle that isn't thin and more rounded but there really isn't a lot of them out there. Opinel is the only thing I can think of but I think manufacturers could make something similar but better. Would be cool to finally find an actual comfortable handle pocket knife not for necessarily everyday pocket carry but maybe for camping/wood working/random tasks.

For a budget option flipper with an axis lock type mechanism the CJRB Crag or the CJRB Kicker with the recoil lock are a couple good ones. The recoil lock doesn't look or operate exactly like an axis lock. There is an actuator wrapped around the back of the knife that moves the lock bar when pulled down instead of the user pulling down on the lock bar directly. It is just like the axis lock under the scales. It requires slightly different finger placement to operate but it is very similar and the flipping action is pretty good.

The PM2 and PM3 are hard to beat when it comes to handle designs IMO.they are a masterpiece of a design.they feel amazing when you hold them behind the finger choil and feel just as great when you choke up on the blade using the finger choil and the thumb ramp.there isn’t a knife I would rather carry.I have an old S30V PM2 I carry everyday at work and have multiple variants of PM2s and PM3s that I cycle in my EDC

Hi David, My first question was answered brilliantly, so here I go again! Hope you can help me out with another one similar to my 1st question: I'm looking for a folding knife, with the following features: 1) Flipper (that becomes a "guard") 2) Axis or Similar Cross-Bar Lock (**MUST** be bank-vault, bomb-proof strong) 3) Thumb Hole, either oval or round, doesn't matter, but **MUST** have it... 4) About 3" or more Blade Length 5) Pointy, not Wharncliffe, but needs some belly. 6) Optional, but would be game-winning: Full Flat Grind, finger choil, assist or bearings in the pivot and Deep Carry Pocket Clip 7) See if you can recommend me a budget and a premium version each. Thanks so much!

To the guy with the sharpening question I'd say try the worksharp guided sharpening system and the upgrade kit it will have you a pro at freehand style sharpening in no time. Start with the guides and pivot system then start locking the base but using the guides then take off the guides and do it freehand it's a great setup to go up, and up in skill level

I really don't know why anyone would want an assisted flipper especially with an axis lock. There's so many great flippers on bearings that work wonderfully! The only assisted knives I care for are OTF knives. Kershaw assisted knives were cool way back in the day before we had all these fantastically priced new knives. But we all have our own opinions and that's why we have as many options as we do, there are knives that fit everyone!

@Ismael H. Raposo One knife you may consider is something from the SOG Terminus line. The SOG XR lock is the same type of lock mechanism as the Benchmade, but to my hands SOG does a better job. They have versions from $55 with a D2 blade, $85 for a S35VN blade and carbon fiber/G10 scales, and a $140 model with Carbon fiber liners replacing steel liners. I carry the $85 Terminus and I love it. It's ridiculously easy to open, and SOG does great with CPM-S35VN.

Hey DCA! I have a couple of sharpening questions for KniFAQ. When sharpening a knife with a scandi grind, is there a micro bevel at the edge? Second how do you determine the angle of the grind? Is there and industry standard or are all knife grinds based on the makers’ whim? Maybe Knife Center could include the grind angle in the knife specs. Love the KniFAQ and catch it every week. Damn, that’s a great looking Kukri from Condor,I wish it was available in other steel options though but I may pick one up anyway..I’ve also been eyeing the Condor Terrasaur.I think this Condor Kukri and the Condor Terrasaur would pair up nicely together.Im trying to put together a decent little budget setup that I would be comfortable letting my nephew and little cousin use when I take them camping..I already gave my nephew my old Mora 511 so he is set on a belt knife but I’m not gonna allow either of them to use any of my axes or hatchets.I may just spend another $10 on another 511 for my little cousin but I would like to get a budget Kukri or a short heavy machete for light chopping..I usually bring my Junglas for light chopping and my S35VN ESEE 3,my N690 Bradford Guardian 4,my 3V Bradford Guardian 4.5,my A2 L.T. Wright Genesis or my A2 Bark River Scandi Aurora for my belt knife but I’m not comfortable letting the kids use any of the above..I think the $10 Mora 511 is an absolutely fantastic belt knife for beginners but I need to find a budget chopper..on second thought,I’ll probably just pick up a couple Kershaw Camp 10s for my nephew and little cousin so they can have their own gear..then I could just keep the Condor Kukri and Condor Terrasaur for myself and not have to loan anything out to the kids.I could use that Condor gear occasionally or loan it out to someone with a little more experience like my brothers or my friends..regardless,I need some good spare budget gear that I’m comfortable loaning out occasionally..I’m just not comfortable loaning out my ESEE,Bradford,L.T. Wright and Bark River knives time anybody and as of right now I don’t have any good budget loaner gear..I think Condor has some excellent gear to fill this void

Not 100% on what yet, but can you spitball a few ideas for knives. I want it to be a classy piece. Not ultra modern...maybe traditional, but you know the sweet spot I'm thinking of. If it's not too much, maybe a couple folder ideas, and a couple of fixed blades would be huge, but whatever you can manage...its a hot series and you can't get to everything. Thanks so much. @@knifecenter Shoot. I meant to include that. I do need to keep it pretty reasonable unfortunately. $200.00 max...less would be great. I wish I could say darn the cost, and make it super special, but every year going forward is a mile stone for me now, so maybe down the road I can go with full custom ultra luxury piece. If that price is just too limiting, I might be able to entertain something more expensive if it's excellent, and has a narrow availability window. I hate those regrets...the one that got away. I actually had a dream about finally getting a TOPS White Fang...but they're just gone. Never one on the 2nd market. It's a sickness. I'm sure you can relate. Thanks David. It was my first successful attempt at sharpening 20CV and S35V without feeling like I ruined the fine edge.

Hi! How strong are folding knifes without metal liners? Are materials like G10 or micarta good for handles of a folding knife, without metal liners, for harder use? Thanks.

Tops steak knife for expensive, lionsteel steak knife for inexpensive for me. Maybe the boker arbolito series for really inexpensive. Also, for a really great striker for Ferro rod, get a square metal lathe bit. Put it in a piece of wood. Awesome striker and so hard it doesn't wear down quickly at all. It's made to work through steel, so mischmetal is no problem.

Speaking of underrated knives how come there is no love for some of my favourite knives. The quartermaster Mr. Roper with clip point 154CM and the Benchmade 980 turret? Would love to see those knives in a video getting some love thanks!

Long time no feature DCA. Fingers Crossed. Should I make a secondary bevel on my folding knives? I strop my users about once a month. I have reprofiled many of my edges to 19 degrees and finished with stropping, but I am wondering if I should set a 25 or 30 degree secondary bevel? If I don't does that mean my edge is a scandi grind? Thanks for your expertise.

What's your carry combo if you're going on a four day backpacking trip? Folder/fixed/multi-tool? Neck knife/fixed/multi-tool? Also, examples of your choices and why would be helpful. Thanks and appreciate the great work!

Looking for an assisted and non assisted flipper opening, with lefty liner lock. If available at different price points. Just getting started and having trouble finding lefty knives. The clip side doesn't make it lefty! Thanks for great reviews!

Hey DCA, I am looking for a modern folder that is a great slicer. Would like a good steal as well. I’m willing to spend 200 … maybe a little more. Would like to avoid flippers as I have a few. Liner locks are not my favorite but would except it for the right knife. Thanks! If this has already been in another episode I missed please let me know what episode.thanks again.

More on the leek, what makes it so good is just the fit and finish out of the box. Less than $40, even if you don't get the cpm or s30v versions, 14c28n is just about the greatest every day budget knife steel. It takes an absolute razor edge and will hold it for a long time. It's a shame it doesn't get used in more knives

I really wish the BK 40 was a 3.75 inch blade. My only question is when are the Buck 110 legacy 2021 editions shipping out? I'm super excited to get it!

Hi DCA, I have a sharpening question that i think has not come up before. At my age and with my work, I have repetitive stress pain in my wrists and forearms. Picking up a coffee thermos hurts and I’ve nearly dropped it. This makes manual sharpening and stropping only more painful long before the knife is sharp. A lot of ‘top 10 sharpener’ web sites only list countertop pull-through motorized grinding wheels, which I never see recommended on KZbin knife channels! Is there a reasonable and effective powered system I can use that requires less repetitive arm activity? I have no idea what I’m asking in terms of price. Is there an option under $50, or under $100? I’d like to stay under $100 unless there’s something you think WAY BETTER for just a bit more than that. My limbs and I thank you. You’re the best.

Hello DCA and KC. I have become a knife collector during the D2 steel explosion for budget knives - but I am hesitant on purchasing many D2 steel knife because of semi-stainless property. For my education, should I be hesitant in choosing D2 steel knives? I know they hold good edge, but will they rust with normal every day use, for example cutting my peanut butter sandwich at work, of course I would clean it afterwards. Have you have any D2 steel knives to rust? Thank you

Hi! I have a hard question for you! I’m a big fan of the original Smatchet, what’s a good knife that has a lot of the original vibes of the Smatchet that you would suggest? I saw the Sniper Works one the other day but that looks more modern tactical than I prefer….
