The case knives reminded me of a question I’ve been meaning to ask for KniFAQ. I wanna get into collecting Case knife patterns (blade combinations, not handle patterns) but don’t know where to start. What would you say are the most iconic Case patterns that every good Case collection needs?

I got the Viper Moon in textured, chamfered green Fat Carbon Fiber and love it! Gorgeous knife, excellent ergos, a beautiful, crowned and gimped, modified Sheepsfoot Magnacut blade with a satin finish and a crowned titanium backspacer. The gimped flipper tab is perfect. - small but easy to use. The thumb studs are a bit sharp at the apex, but it’s not a problem at all. Excellent knife given all these features, design and craftsmanship.

DCA! Other than Nessmuk and generic drop point, what are your favorite knife shapes? Mine is the harpoon with finger choil. Not sure why, but it looks great. Kansept Fenrir, Microtech Stitch, Kunwu Padre, etc. Bonus points: for my favorite shape, are their any good budget/midrange options you would recommend?

DCA, I have two magnacut questions. What blade steel would magnacut compare to regarding edge retention? S90V? Part 2: Is all Magnacut the same? I ask because last week, there was a mangnacut KA bar for around $300 but I also see little 3 inch Magnacut folders for the same price or more.

All else being equal, edge retention should be very similar to CPM-S35VN, and just above the likes of 154CM, VG-10 and N690. All CPM-Magnacut is the same because only one company makes it. What will differ from one knife to the next will be the heat treatment and edge geometry.

Hate to be that guy but the Garberg isn't 14c28n anymore...as per Mora's website last I checked, it's now recycled steel...no specification as to composition. For $80, might be best to look elsewhere...🤷

Man Viper makes some excellent pieces. Like most Euro makers they DO NOT make a reversible clip. Lefties not welcome. 😂That microtech looks dope AF. I love how people complain en masse about Benchmade prices but microtech seems to sneak by with aluminum. Just glad American makers either use reversible clips or make dedicated lefties. 🇺🇸

I was wondering if you had some tips on how to spot a counterfeit? Btw I don't hold the seller accountable as I don't believe he was aware of what he had either, it took me a fair amount of research to realize the mistake I had made, it's a pretty good fake Microtech. Generally the handles look very nice. The QC issues are things like gaps in the liners, very poorly ground secondary bevels including recurves from over sharpening, off center or rubbing blades, etc.

Ive never commented, but I really wish you would disclose the China made knives early on. Some of us make that an automatic "not going to buy". There are many knives that I am sure the quality is great on, but I just will not send my money to China. Thankfully there are some great manufactures from US and Italy that allow me to keep my collection growing.

Kydex, yuck, such a let down compared to the knives they carry. Knives spend most of their time in a sheath, why aren’t manufacturers innovating in this area? The first one to come up with a more esthetically pleasing sheath surely will attract more customers to their brand.

On some of the B Roll you see the hands belong to Thomas, the camera operator. He has a medical condition with his fingernails. This was covered in one of their videos. I didn’t see any dirt but then again I am looking at the knives.

viper’s magnacut knives would be a lot cooler if they weren’t heat treating their magnacut to 60 hrc. people flipped shit over hogue’s magnacut not having good edge retention at 62 hrc i can’t even imagine how much edge retention would suffer at 60 hrc. i own a viper in magnacut with the low HRC but i haven’t been able to test the edge retention because i just don’t carry that knife. they also really have no excuse because MKM is HTing their magnacut to 62 HRC. still lower than most people like but it’s high enough that the edge retention will still be pretty decent.

While the research does show magnacut does really well with a higher RC, there are sooo many other factors. Angle of the edge, indented use, and how hard it is to resharpen when the hardness gets that high. Not trying to change your mind, but the listing does say 60-62, and it doesn’t look like a dainty knife. Knife steel nerds has a great video on this.
