270 for a magnacut recon when a s35vn version is around 95 bucks???? That's absolutely INSANE considering the material cost of magnacut is less at most barons than s35vn. Not all the micro arc oxidation finishes are the same, but I got one of the smaller rectangular shaped Rovyvon flashlight that has it, and I absolutely loved the feeling of it because it feels like a cool river stone in your hand. But then I ordered something else from them because I thought it would be awesome to have a larger size that felt the same way so I got one of their larger, rectangular models that also has micro oxidation, but it’s different somehow. The first one I got was more gray and almost look like and felt like stone but the second one I got was more white and it didn’t have the same feeling somehow. But that would be amazing if they started doing thaton the scales of knives. If someone doesn’t do that soon, I would be surprised because they’re missing out and we are missing out too.

I was interested in the Cold Steel M1 until I saw the word Italy on the blade. It's pretty much guaranteed a bad heat treat that'll make the magnacut perform like a $10 gas station knife.
@EDCandLace20 күн бұрын
Probably being made by MKM and that means 60-61rc on the magnacut that's way to soft in a folder but for a really hard use focused knife that's really made to be wreneched on the softer temper may not be such a bad idea. The heat treats they do are not bad, the quality of heat treat is actually very good considering the volume of knives they put out in a year... The heat treat it's self isn't what the issue is with the soft steels that's all in the temper to bring down the hardness to the levels they want.
@LordTywinLannistertheBased20 күн бұрын
@EDCandLace Maybe it won't be too bad. I just see way too many blades made in Italy with way too low hrc for the steel. To be honest, I only trust Spyderco and certain custom makers to optimize heat treats anymore. If you're paying for a premium knife with a premium steel, it shouldn't be hampered by a low hrc.

265 for a magnacut cold steel? It’s not even U.S.A. made. I wonder what hrc they are going with. What is happening to the knife community? Hogue has the Deka $140, the knifecenter exclusive sig k320 magnacut and aluminum for $170 I believe, and hogue is doing their Magnacut at 62-64 I remember correctly. My body bought two BM’s in Magnacut and his experience has been lackluster to say the least. He’s telling me that it has to be treated very low because the edge retention is pretty bad. I heard BM was doing 59-61hrc on there magnacut or something similar.

Maybe it's getting trendy since it's part of EDC. And gredd good old fashion greed. Or maybe Its teotwawki and they trying to make as much cash as possible.

Cold Steel did some market research and added a 4th pillar to the Magnacut triad - massively overpriced

What are these Benchmade prices? Who is actually paying that much for mediocre factory knives?
@galacticcaveman404520 күн бұрын
Yeah, because that cold steel was real cheap.

I have often wondered how long they could survive their boosting prices absurdly without noticeable changes in the products.

@@galacticcaveman4045I'm going to blame the new expensive CS stuff on the Stickman till he says otherwise. I guess he thinks it's a good move for the company to get into more expensive stuff like benchmade? Would be fascinating to see BenchMades books. Maybe the son is keeping the company afloat or looking into selling to GSM or Blueridge or some capital investment company.

Those Toor sheaths are so tight. You will rip your clothes off getting it out
@gheckolock8120 күн бұрын
You know what’d be cool with those pocket fixed blades. They could do away with the sheath, and use the handle as the sheath if they made some way to have the blade pivot down don’t fit inside the handle. Then they could just put a clip on the handle instead of on the sheath so the knife could be clipped to your pocket without a sheath.
