The Swiss army knife was the first real thing my oldest son saved his money for. It was the knife with like 40 tools on it. Pretty much worthless but he want it so bad. He was about 7 and he saved and saved and was able to buy it. I was very proud of him for for that I think it was the Swiss army knife that made him realize if you want something you have to work for it. It turned out to be a life lesson for him. Thanks for reminding me of that memory.

They had made Pioneer X in the past,for the Swiss military medics but they stopped producing it at some point.Saying one SAK is the best is not fair for all the other SAKS.After you get older for excample,the Explorers magnyfing glass,becomes vital and generally with the added utility that celidor models ofer,makes the Explorer more ideal for us older people! I think that there are at least 10 Victorinox models,that I could say,they are the BEST lol

I have carried a Swiss Champ for 44 years and have about 20 other models in my collection every jacket and coat has one in a pocket so I never leave home without at least a 3 layer blade in my pocket. I have never had one let me down and when I did drop one once it was so easy to send it back to get the scales replaced the customer service is wonderful. That was a great Vid just as I expect from someone who is talking about great knives..

Hello! Many thanks for posting such an interesting video! My favorites URBAN EDC Victorinox Knives are: 1. Delemont EvoGrip 14 It has all the tools I need and like to carry. It’s downside is that the Evo scales make it a thick pocket knife 2. Sportsman X I modified a regular Sportsman adding a 3rd layer with 84 mm scissors. Beautiful knife and incredibly practical as an EDC 3. COMPACT Probably the best standard EDC for urban use! As I carry my knife vertical by my side with a pocket clip, the 91 mm Compact is a bit long 4. SMALL COMPACT Again, I modified a 84 mm WAITER by adding a second layer with 84 mm scissors. The result is THE BEST URBAN EDC I have! It is the one I use the most. 5. CADET ALOX As you mention in your video, it is a perfect gentleman knife to use with my suit. I insist, these are my personal choices for Urban EDC and that have the tools I most often use. Take care GREETINGS FROM GUATEMALA!

I love the Victorinox knifes since I was a little kid. The where kind of pricey at this times , especially as a kids knife- but on my 5th birthday I got one from my beloved grandpa! Man this was a big day! Now I’m 40 and still got this knife- I had used it for over 15 years and it never left my climbing Rucksack. Now this „camper“ just sits in my knife collection, always remembering me on my beloved granddad. U just have to love them!

@@ejkalegal3145 cause he was a wise man that thought me how to use a knife and how to avoid getting hurt using it. He spend a LOT of time with me whittling, cutting apples, bread and ropes . It was a true heart gift and the main gift wasn’t the knife I realized now that my own kids are getting bigger and bigger . It was the time he spent with me , telling me how to be carefull with this tool. ( and for ur better understanding- I wasn’t allowed to use the knife when I was alone, i wasn’t allowed to carry it when I was out with my friends or so - I just got it from my parents when is was with them or my granddad)

My favorite is the Victorinox Camper, (which hits all of my tool sweet spots, with the knot-opening, screwdrive-holding, pin-retaining corkscrew.) That said I usually leave it in my briefcase and carry a classic Red Spartan in my pocket. The Pioneer may be the descendant of the first military contract, but the Spartan is the modern version of the original Officer's Knife that soldiers brought home from the World Wars. It made Victorinox knives desirable and famous outside of Switzerland!

The Explorer Model is IMO the most practical . It has enough features without being too big to carry in your pocket . I gave someone a Champion Model years ago before he left on a cruise to the British Isles . He used every tool on the knife during his trip including the saw and magnifying glass . I've given countless Classic Models as gifts to women and one time a woman I dated spotted an identical knife to the one I gave her on another woman friend's keychain ( Uh oh ! ) . My first Explorer Model served me for 28 years as a pry bar, paper weight, scraper, etcher, paint can opener, puller, hammer ( Don't try this at home, kids ! ) , measure and more . I also used it in its intended functions . I offered to make an ad for Victorinox but they turned me down because they don't normally use testimonial ads ??????? If I misplace my Swiss Army Knife, I lose all of my magical powers and turn back into a mere mortal .

They are good knives but like anything you gotta take care of them. I recommend stone sharpening as anything with an electric motor tends to remove too much material. Electric sharpeners greatly reduce the lifespan of knives in my opinion. I love these, I still carry my compact every day.

Hi there from switzerland! Nice to see such a passion around those knifes. The farmer was the official army knife back in the days while i was doing my army service in 2001. man i loved that knife! Some cadets came to visit us from russia one day, all of them wanted to change stuff, of course all of them wished to get our army knifes. They offered me several badges but i wanted more :) so i got an old golden soviet belt buckle with the hammer and sickle on it. haha delicious memories. The farmer has been replaced since years, not sure how the new one is called exactly. Greetings to the world from switzerland!🤙

I’m rocking a Classic my grandfather bought in the 1970’s on my keychain still. Blade is sharp, file works great and I still use the scissors a few times a week to trim my mustache. For something he paid like $7 for close to 50 years ago.. not too shabby. Only major maintenance I did was clean the interior up with isopropyl and q-tips, then coated it all in Tuf-Glide and let it dry on over a weekend before wiping it all down. I hope to use it til I croak.

I bought my SAK back in the mid 90's. I didn't remember what it was called so I went to the official website and it turned out to be a red Spartan (the Tourist has the same 12 functions but is a bit smaller). Obviously the pen dried up a long time ago but everything else still works as if it was new. Awesome tool.

My favorites are: - The Deluxe Tinker: My personal EDC for about 5 years, it's compact enough to carry in a pouch and has the three tools that I use almost daily: the scissors, the phillips screwdriver, and the very underrated pliers. - The Tinker Small: Basically the tiny version of my Deluxe. Although the 84 mm format is only slightly shorter than a regular 91mm Victorinox, it makes a quite a difference when you carry it in your pocket. - The Bantam Alox: Not only it's gorgeous to look at, but it's so slim that it fits inside my wallet! The combo tool is quite useful. I carry it wherever a full-size knife is not discrete enough. - The Outrider: The best knife in the 111mm range and the best knife for hiking or any outdoor activity. The locking blade is great for more heavy duty woodwork. - The Rambler: A perfect keychain knife for people who don't want to carry a knife! I've gifted this one countless times.

The Cybertool 34, and similar models deserve being mentioned. They're one of the only models with a bit screwdriver and bit holders that hold double sided bits for a total of 8 tips plus the others you find on the other tools. They also include pliers, scissors, a pen, and more.

My favorite knife is the Pioneer. Great video, by the way :) Just two small comments: 1. The Compact comes with a pin by default, but most people don't know that most of the 84 / 91 mm Cellidor knives come with scales that have the hole for the pin, it's just not included out of the box. But you can steal one from the sewing kit of your mom/wife etc. :) 2. Try to put the Compact's pen under the hook instead of the cork screw. It's much firmer.

@@KyleTheDalek Both are great. Usually I prefer the Pioneer because it's lighter and I hardly ever need a saw. But when I go to places where I'm likely to need one, I take a Farmer. The Pioneer X is a very good knife as well, more useful in an urban environment. Most of the time, the scissors on my Classic are enough for me, but if I could only have one knife on me, it would be the X. For example, that's what I take when I travel.

My favorite Victorinox is the Farmer. The knife has the history going back to the soldier model, has more heavy duty construction, thicker blade, the best awl in the business and the cool factor with those Alox Scales is off the charts. In the outdoors it is a remarkably capable tool in a very small package. My first experience with Victorinox dates back to the 60's, with my father's red Victorinox purchased in the early 50's. I must have cut myself a hundred times growing up with that knife, but it sparked an interest and love of Victorinox products that continues to this day.

At 1:50 the half stop is not for applying bigger force on the screwdriver. It is there there to be used with the wire stripper notch: You fold the opener upwards insert the wire to the notch then close the knife blade on it carefully and roll the knife around to cut the insulation of the wire.

All good stuff. I especially appreciated the little snippet about mounting the ballpoint pen under the corkscrew. You might want to add a similar tidbit on the use of the wire stripper. It took me literally years to discover the intended way to strip the plastic coating from a wire, using the notch and main blade.

Nicola, Victorinox can legally call all of its knives "Swiss Army Knives". Other Swiss companies, such as Swiza, cannot. Of course that this is widely used commercially, especially because the "Soldier" model is currently the only model issued to the Swiss Army. However, Victorinox makes a lot of money by selling the (true) story that its knives were once issued to the Swiss Army (and to this day, one model still is) that they can legally call all of them "Swiss Army Knives".
@WR3ND
@WR3ND 5 жыл бұрын
The Trekker is also very similar to the modern standard issue. My standard issue Soldier is from 2009 though. | Regardless, these have been popular in more Western markets (i.e., the US) for a long time (many decades) as "Swiss Army Knives." The actual company names have been much less well known, at least until more recently.

These knives are the best things to have around and everyone carries one at all times.. I got my first when I was 5 in my tackle box, but it could only be used when we were our fishing. Once I hit high school I started carrying one of the Classic SD with me at all times because you never know when you might need it for something. Funny story time. One year at Valentines Day Mom's coworkers were talking about what their SOs gotten them. Mom proudly whipped out her new navy blue Classic SD. They were giving her looks of sympathy until she told them it was exactly what she wanted.

The Cadet is my favorite. The nail file is a great tool, not just for nails but also as a substitute marlinspike for undoing knots. A bottle opener is also never out of place. Finally, the blade on the Cadet is a good size for doing significant cutting while still small enough to make a compact tool to slip in your pocket.
