I was trying to think of the best way to celebrate Independence Day on the channel. I settled on American Pocket Knives that served America well during WWII. Like many of the the many who served during the war, these knives began life as humble tools in the civilian world but answered the call when their country called them.

Happy Birthday USA! Thanks for putting this together Tobias. I know that delving into military knives is it's own black hole yet you do make showing us your collection a treat of a history lesson.

I arrived at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery to visit my only son this morning just after sunrise. I was the only one there. When I got to my unit in the 82nd during Vietnam , myself and fellow new arrivals each had one of those automatic paratroopers knives on their bunks . We were looking at them and some guy says I hope you boys last longer than those POS knives. They were total garbage and didn’t last more than a few days before they were all broken. Not sure about this but I think they were made by a company named colonial

Yeah, those knives had one purpose and one purpose only. Cut the straps on runaway parachute if you were being dragged. And they were the back up in case the quick release failed. I’m guessing you jumping with either T-10s or -1 (dash ones) at that time. Both had pretty reliable quick releases.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias Yes , I was back on the T10 days. Those automatic knives made Rough Ryder seem more like Chris Reeves in reference to quality comparison

Some really neat knives, really like the folding machete. Thanks for sharing and God bless.

Funny thing about the folding machete. I almost always slips my mind when I'm showing my folding military knives because it a machete and doesn't really fit the definition of a pocket knife. And every time I go to show my military fixed blades, I go to grab and then put it back because its a folder! LOL

@@KnifeChatswithTobias you are very welcome. Oh yeah i enjoyed it. I never cared for the looks of the toothpicks till i started watching all of you folks showing yours and i had to get one lol. Now i have a vintage Hammer Brand mini Toothpick tang stamped between 1938-1941 and an old Imperial two blade fishknife with a fish as a shield and yellow scales. The tang stamp on it shows between 1956-1988. I love them. Now i want to get more lol. You have a wonderful day brother.

How can I send you a photo of a unique knife that I have? It is a pocket sized knife with MOP scales and 24 blade slots with 12 on each side. All of the blades are tiny and very similar.
