I’m 52 years old and I still have my Knight 2000 and the original box. I actually found two additional car doors that I painted in gloss black because as a kid I hated the fact that Kenner had added the red text on them. I even hand wrote a letter to Kenner about the possibility of adding some additional action figures for the series like Devon and Bonnie. It unfortunately didn’t happen. In my letter I wrote that despite Michael being a lone crusader that he wasn’t really that alone.

This was my all time favorite toy as a kid, and I felt the same way about the text on the doors. I used black electrical tape to cover it on mine. I've got the Fanhome 1/8th scale KITT now. It's pricey, but definitely fills the space in my heart that the Kenner car did when I was a kid.

This toy was, for me, the equivalent of the Red Ryder BB gun from a Christmas Story back during Christmas season of 1983. I lusted after this car every time the commercial would come on during weekday, afternoon cartoons and begged my parents for it. Unfortunately none of our local department stores or toy shops had them or knew when they could get them. About a week before Christmas, on the local 11 o'clock news, our local Zayre announced that they had a shipment due in the next morning. My dad, luckily saw both the announcement on the news and had the following day off from work and was able to get to Zayre early the next day and battled his way through the crazies trying to get Cabbage Patch dolls and was able to get one for me. I was never so excited to get a Christmas present in my life as I was or ever have been since when I unwrapped the Knight 2000 Voice Car on December 25, 1983!!! A few weeks after I had gotten it, my dad made me a lifetime customizer when he mentioned how awful those screen inaccurate Knight 2000 door stickers were and suggested that we take a little bit of lacquer thinner on a rag and remove them. I agreed and my K.I.T.T. now looked like the real one! I then noticed that my dad had some leftover chrome tape in his workshop from a roof flashing project and I asked him if we could cut out some pieces to make the rear view mirrors look more realistic. He helped me with that and I was soo pleased with how it turned out. Then, I got the idea of taking some model paint and painting the front parking lights on the fenders orange and the rear ones red, to look just as they did on TV. This was my introduction into customization, and I've been hooked ever since!!!

All it needed was a good dusting and it looked like brand new, although the voice box long since stopped working. I also wanted this toy so bad when it first came out that I literally opened one up in my local K-Mart because I was so excited to see it and started playing with it in the store. Little did I know this was not aloud but needless to say I did end up with one a couple days later and then another one a few years later. I'm 44 and this was one of my favorite toys when I was a child and is forever part of my history growing up. Also loved Street Hawk as well but never knew there was a toy. From what I remember in 80s UK. There were Street Hawk toys. But I believe they were originally mini stunt bike sets, where the stunt bikes were remoulded in black and label slapped with Street Hawk. Tell you something else, there was a stand-alone tv special called TV’s Top Thirty Cars. Where KITT ranked No 2. Loosing out only to the General Lee. Surprisingly, there are people in the UK, who spared no expense, having the actual car imported. And customised to reassemble KITT. Both exterior and interior.

As a kid in the 1980s I was a huge fan of Knight Rider. I wanted the voice car for Christmas. My mom would get Christmas catalogs from the major department stores of the era such as Sears, JC Penny, and Macy's. I saw the voice car in Service Merchandise's Christmas catalog and did my best to talk my mom into getting it for me. Unfortunately, my family was lived on welfare. $29 was simply too much money to spend on a toy car. As an adult I understand why my mom said no because adjusted for inflation that's $91, nearly $100. This was a very expensive toy in 1983 that only middle class and rich families could afford. I think Kenner not including a working scanner light was a cost cutting measure. Not sure why they felt it necessary to paint Knight 2000 on the doors. I guess they thought kids would be too dumb to know the car was KITT. The sad part about this toy is Kenner did not bother to produce other Knight Rider vehicles/figures to go with the toy line. A Goliath and Garthe Knight figure would have been nice as well as Devon Miles and Bonnie Barstow figures. A KARR version of the voice car and a FLAG headquarters playset would have been cool. All kids had was Michael and KITT. No bad guys or bad vehicles. I get that Kenner's idea was for kids to use Michael and KITT with various other toy brands they had. However, the difference in scale made this quite a challenge. Dukes's of Hazzard figures didn't end with Bo, Luke and the General Lee. You could get Daisy, Boss Hogg, and Rosco as well.

I think we had about five different toy cars; that talking one, a slight smaller one, a ridable pedal-powered one, two different matchbox versions; one a standard Matchbox racer, and one with beefy wheels that I think you could launch from a launcher pad thing, or it had the internal ratcheting mechanism that you could launch by pressing down on the car while pulling it back then letting go and let fly.

I had this. Even as a kid, I thought it was stupid to have KNIGHT 2000 on the side. Why? It's not like that on the show. You didn't see Darth Vader with DARTH VADER on his chest. Or, something similar like C3-P0 and R2D2. I did not like it. As an adult, I figure it's probably some issue with the GM Pontiac licensing or something stupid like that. Funny note: I saw this when I was young, and thought KITT was real. At Universal Studios they said you could sit in KITT and talk to him. I was so excited. I even wore my Knight Rider T-Shirt to show KITT how big of a fan I was. The car was accurate (and awesome) but I was saddened to realize it was just some guy doing a horrible impression through a radio. I realized that day KITT was all fake. It was more traumatic than realizing Santa Claus wasn't real. Recently, I made my own KITT voicebox. Powered by ChatGPT, I even cloned the voice. It's surreal to talk to KITT as an adult. We now live in a world of self driving cars, computer screens in cars, bulletproof glass, and now talking AI. We're living in the future.

Hi Tony, greetings from North Wales. Palitoy only sold the Kenner Street Hawk friction bike in the UK, (yellow window box), it was still labelled Kenner with a small sticker on the back stating it was distributed by Palitoy. The rest of those mock ups in the catalogue never made it off the page. Kenner scrapped the launch when Street Hawk was cancelled in 1985. The prototypes are still out there and a Norman Tuttle first shot figure came up on ebay a few months ago. Glasslite did a whole range of Street Hawk vehicles but these were mainly generic trucks and a few different versions of the Kenner bike. There was meant to be a Command Centre playset with the 70's Kenner pump action speed bike thing, police bike, Honda scrambler and of course Street Hawk, all with a corresponding figure.

K.I.T.T. was voiced by the legendary William Daniels. I had this toy and it was awesome.

Knight Rider has and always be my favourite, I have almost all the toy merchandise including the voice car. I also have some Street Hawk bikes in 3 different sizes, the smaller two could be knock offs or cheaper toys.... however the larger one looks very similar to the one at the top of the page. As for the ones at the bottom with separate figure I've never seen before. I know there was a Street Hawk funskool India GI Joe bike and Rider but I've never managed to acquire one
