Hi Michael. It's been a while since I last commented here, but I was reminded of your story recently. Back when I was in high school, under the username "LegoWaffles11" I said I was writing a Link to the Past concert band arrangement, and I said that I wanted to dedicate it to the memory of your brother. I don't believe I ever heard back from you, but that's okay. All these years later, I am now a professional composer, and I'm working on a series of Zelda covers (of much higher quality than what I was doing in high school). If you end up reading this, I would still like your brother's name so that I may dedicate the final track of the album to him; this track. I hope that you are doing well, and I hope to hear back from you.

My first Zelda game, got it in 7th grade and didn't beat until the summer before 11th grade. I worked so hard to beat this game. My data even got erased more than once. I had to start from the beginning 2 or 3 times, and one of those times, I had made it all the way to Ganon's tower. When I beat this game, I was home alone, and there was a thunderstorm brewing outside- I felt so proud and this music nearly moved me to tears. Still the most nostalgic music to me and still gives me that sense of sadness, achievement, relief, and happiness all at once.
@infinitlycool6 жыл бұрын
Took you 4 years to beat it huh? It took me 12. I first got the game when I was eight and I didn't finally complete it until I was 20. The reasons for taking that long ranged from not having a TV to play it on for several years to coming back to it after some time and having to start all over because I couldn't remember where I was or how I got there. When I finally did beat the game and the credits rolled I sat back, breathed a huge sigh of relief, and said, "It was all worth it." I don't think I'll ever say those same words again for any other game as long as I live.

It's the buildup to the more familiar tune that makes it wonderful. That rising up to what you know is coming and when it arrives it's soft, muted. It isn't heroic, it's matter-of-factly like the rest of the piece and builds from there.

I always tear up with joy, even cry, and have that overwhelming urge to jump back in there, take the adventure with Link, and have one more go-at-it with Gannon. Sounds Geeky but it's true. This song hits me right in the feels. I remember the very first time I heard this song. I was sitting right next to my older brother after we worked together to beat the game by tag teaming our way through it, trading off bosses and puzzles, and working together to solve all the hidden items you could get. We spent months working on this game, slowly making our way through, and at the very end my brother was the one who beat the final boss and finished the game. We were both so jazzed to finally beat it. I remember shouting out in joy and slapping him a high-five as the ending credits rolled. He beat the last boss, but "we" beat the game. It's one of my most precious memories of my brother. I miss these times so very very much.

One reason making believe this is also the fact that this song plays AFTER the epic cutscene where we see Link restoring the peace in Hyrule. It feels like how you feel when the music/projectors are off, the party is over and you're alone again with yourself. Somehow I have this feeling that this track is a more intimate/personal one where what matters isn't the appearances you give to the outside world but how Link feels in the inside, and that's something feeling "deeper" to think of when you know that the character we played as never said a single word of the adventure... so somehow this track seems to give him for once an occasion to speak.

I'm a "younger" zelda player, so I didn't grow up with a SNES; I grew up with a Gameboy Adv. But ever since I started playing Zelda (2 years ago), it's become a huge part of my life. It's incredible. And I always treasure the moment I beat a game, because I can listen to the credits. I haven't played ALttP, so I feel guilty... but it's far to beautiful to stop listening! :,)

wonderfull how the name of the composer rolls in the screen when the best piece of music he made starts...

Reading Hiroshi Yamauchi's name makes me feel old as hell. This was the song that made it worthwile beating the game over and over again. All the remixes and orchestrations I've heard lacks the drama of this original version. Koji Kondo nailed it. Tempo, tone and dynamics are perfect, and he did it with Snes hardware!

And Daniel Owsen is the only non Japanese staff member who worked on this game.

The opening segment is melancholic nostalgia.

LttP is an outstanding game. It literally IS Zelda in its purest form, every game that has been out after this one is based on this one: the Master Sword theme, Zelda's Lullaby, Dead Man Volley, Kakariko Village, spin attack, mostly anything is from this very game (and obviously the previous ones too). As you said, this one set the standard, and I support your opinion.
