It is amazing what happens when music opens the box to childhood memories. And it makes me realize that I'll never be able to share those exact impressions and feelings with someone else, which is a bit sad but also makes them precious and I'm happy to have them with me. Thanks for reminding me.

I feel you man. Music can be so utterly nostalgic and powerful, and especially video game music for me. This particular game blew me away when I first played it as a kid and I developed an obsession with it. Listening to these themes brings me to a magical place within that I cannot share with others either, as it is my own personal experience. What may just sound like pretty music to someone else is an entire world within me that these melodies bring out.

@@williamkoscielniak820 I have felt that way about this game in particular for a long time in a way that’s difficult to articulate. I loved reading books like the hobbit around that time and if I had to describe it I’d say it’s the way you envision the world in your mind’s eye. This 2-bit scape was graphical enough to help me view the world without being so immersive that my creativity couldn’t help me envision a fully fleshed out world that probably differed from the way any other person saw it, though I imagine their view differed from one another too. OOT which I love kind of crosses that line as would majoras mask and all subsequent 3D titles. ALTTP is my favorite and most replayed for this reason.

Imagine just being a local child on a stormy night, having the Princess, the most powerful ruler in the kingdom speaking to you in your mind to help her, seeing your only family, your uncle, leave into the rain, never to return (well, at least at the moment), and then being tasked by him as he's dying to save the Princess and set out on a dangerous adventure as the fate of two worlds lies on your shoulders over a cosmic power. That sense of stepping up to the plate for such a task as the scene opens on a stormy night with this epic music: it's one of those moments you really can't forget the first you play.

That's why Link is my favorite hero. He's just a normal kid, yet when the time comes, he does his best to help in any way he can, only with the tools he finds along the way. And he doesn't ask for anything. He just does it... because it's the right thing to do.

@michaelf96647 жыл бұрын
@Fabrizio (and Rebecca): Yes, 100%! In general, I've noticed that RET's most impressive tracks are often of more easily forgotten melodies (not featured often in the games, just plain not so great in original form, etc.). But yeah, the Sanctuary melody really stood out to me even above and beyond that tendency. That and the more memorable flute boy melody at the end--beautiful and dare I say compassionate in its own right and a very canny shout-out to Ocarina's ending. @Rebecca: You are amazing. So far, I've listened to this one and your Chrono Trigger medley. I'm not that technically skilled at this stuff, but I've been told I have a good ear and general aptitude for music so I often get annoyed when listening to fan tracks that make me go "I could have made that rearrangement so much better!) But no ego or frustration for me here. You are not only talented but I can tell very sentimentally inspired; you arrange the melodies with loving care.

It's a bitter sweet joy listening to the music. Brings back certain memories of my teenage years. Especially the time of 1997 when I was 14. That was the time you could see the comet Hale-Bopp in the sky. I played this game with a friend I went to school with. We had no instructions or guide about the game hence it came as a surprise when we thought we had beaten the game but it suddenly turned into the Dark World. We played a lot of games at that time. Zelda, Secret of Mana and the Street Fighter II series were our favorites. These games are adventurous, touching - and from a nostalgic perspective that I have now - touching in a verry personal way . At the beginning of 1998 my friend moved away and we never saw each other again. Now 23 years have past and every now and then I wonder how he did in life, where's he at right now... So every now and then I look up stuff like this video on KZbin and bathe in memories.

AlttP came packaged with the SNES I got for Christmas. I didn't even care about Zelda at the time so I put it off for months, but one day I was bored of the other games I had and decided to give it a shot. It changed my damned life. It opened up worlds I never knew existed both within and outside of me. This soundtrack is etched into my soul and my childhood as well. That's part of the beauty of these games though. For you and me AlttP is etched into us, while for younger people it may be Twilight Princess or Wind Waker that winds up etched into their brain when they grow older.

Absolutely beautiful. A Link to the Past is easily the greatest game of the Zelda series along with Ocarina of Time.
@RebeccaETripp9 жыл бұрын
+Gamedraco Here here! Although, I'd rank Majora's Mask alongside them. :3 Still, however, MM doesn't capture the SAME thing as the other two. It had its own uniquely memorable and beautiful gift that it gave me, but it certainly wasn't the same gift the other two gave me.
