In 1982, I was 13, and I remember watching this from minute one. What strikes me about the commercials is that there were no pharmaceutical ads full of old people! You had Bayer Aspirin and Robitussin and such like, but no drug ads! You had candy bars, pet food, chain restaurants, toothpaste, laundry detergent, soap, cologne and a couple of beer ads, and that’s all. No hard liquor ads, either. Ah, simpler times! How refreshing! Thanks for sharing these.

I saw the original airing. I was a Dukes of Hazzard fan, and two days prior, Dukes season 5 with Coy and Vance aired. To say it was disappointing was an understatement. Knight Rider came along at just the right time. Something a lot of folks don't quite understand is these cars were not as common as they were about to become. I saw my first in person shortly after the pilot airing, at the grand opening of Epcot. They had a red Trans Am at the end of the World of Motion ride. There was a showroom of GM products mixed with futuristic concepts. A few years later there were 2 on every street, but at the time of the pilot, you didn't see many.

Joe, I saw Knight Rider originally in 1982. I was 6 years old, & I was hooked from day 1. It is what got me interested in cars, & especially Pontiac. I still drive Pontiac excitement today, & currently own 3 Pontiac cars with my pride & joy being a white 2009 Pontiac G8. Hello From Phoenix Arizona 🌡 🔥

Hello Sir, yes a Pontiac G8 is a great car indeed, I once saw one playing with a bmw m5 (e60 w/ n/A v10), its growl and grunt was very impressive, also it was roomy and comfortable inside and handled great, talked to the owner and he let me check it out and took me for a spin. I came away very impressed. Make sure you hold on to yours, because I am sure it will only go up in value. greetings to you in hot and gorgeous Phoenix Arizona 🇺🇸

I saw "Knight Rider" the night it premiered on September 26, 1982. I was 10 years old. I was laying on the floor and my parents were on the couch. My dad was going through the TV Guide (yes, the one that used to come in the Sunday paper.) He read the description and asked my mom if she wanted to watch it. She agreed...and my life changed forever. "Knight Rider" has been my favorite show and KITT has been my dream car ever since. Thank you to Knight Rider Historians for everything you do.

I still remember where I was!!! I was 10 years old. My dad was in the Army and we were just getting ready to move to Germany where he'd been stationed. So I only got to see the first 4 or so episodes of S1 before losing Knight Rider for over a year until it eventually got picked up by AFN Europe. I had *tape* recordings of those 4 episodes that I treasured like gold. Later on, someone gave us a VCR tape with the first 4 episodes of S2 (minus the 2 hour Goliath ep!), before I'd even seen all of S1! Thanks KZbin for using the first KRH commerical break to first stick a couple of your own commercials.

I just turned 5 years old when the show first aired in 1982 and was there first night it was on NBC. I watched it but didn't understand it that much at the time but learned more in time. I had the KR toys, clothing, lunchbox, etc growing up. I watched the entire series when I was able, some episodes in reruns as it wasn't easy to know when it was always on. As a kid flipping through tv guide and recording on vhs, sometimes recording partial as i messed it up to set. It is hard to believe, 42 years ago today, 4 plus decades since and a lot has changed since then, how shows are watched, 4k, people no longer with us then, a world where we will have self-driving cars, smart watches like Michael had, and cars becoming the real Kitt slowly. A great show, still a great theme and it can't be made again as the magic of the show is now gone but not forgotten.

I will be watching the pilot episode this evening, sadly I don't have it on VHS Video (I did many years ago) however I do have it on Dvd so still old school, and I wont adjust the picture size just leave it as it would of been shown on the Tvs around at the time. I am 58 years old now. I was 16 years old when I saw the Premiere Movie. I asked my Parents if I could watch Knight Rider at time and they agreed. I Remember the Commercials as well. I wasn’t a fan of the New Pontiac Trans Ams at the time compared from the 1979 through 1981 models. This show had me see and get more insight of the New Pontiac Trans Am at the time besides seeing them as I was taking the Bus to School. I fell in Love with the Car and I really wanted to own one. Years went by throughout the 80s I saw the Car get Exterior changes and I wasn’t too thrilled about it until I saw the Newly Firebird Formula and I was able to buy a 1989 T.P.I. I was in love again with some of Adapting items like the Sculpted Hood Dome. This show helped give me that inspiration to own a Firebird. Thank you for all of the Memories you brought to us enthusiasts for this Show.

I was 3 years old on this day 42 years ago. If I watched Knight Rider's debut, I have no memory of it due to the fact I was so young. My earliest memories of watching Knight Rider begin when I was 5 years old in 1984. It is beyond criminal that the show is not currently on any of the major streaming platforms in the US. The only options available are renting single episodes or buying the entire series. Seeing the actual commercials that aired during the original broadcast on September 26,1982 was a surreal experience. As always, Joe I appreciate the work you and the KR Historians team put in to find and preserve rare gems like this that would normally be lost to history. Fun Fact: The Crest toothpaste commercial that plays at 33:03 features a young Leo O'Brien. He went on to play Leory Green's smart mouth little brother Richie in Barry Gordy's 1985 film 'The Last Dragon.'

What I like to think about is how many lives do you think this show has effected. How many people were touched by Wilton Knight's message in the pilot, what became Michael's mission statement. That one man can make a difference. Imagine the millions of people who took it to heart as children, that it stuck with because of one fantastic car, an amazing loner's story. I was born in 82, not sure when I first saw it as a kid but I co tonued to watch it for about 30 years. Was a member of Knight Rider Online forum from 97 until the very last post on the forum a few months ago.

I'm 99% sure I watched the original premiere airing. Also, those commercials! Some are hilarious and wouldn't pass today at all, but normal for the 80's. Interesting to see how the transition from radio to TV in advertising was still a work in progress, using obvious radio-style announcers for tv commercials. Today it's not so obvious it seems. But advertising for the Knight Rider pilot was seemingly geared toward the family. Beer, soap, candy, video games, and vitamins, and shopping. They knew the entire family was sitting down to watch this one. Cool retrospective, Joe. Thanks for the memories yet again!

I remember the first time I saw Knight Rider (and actually the pilot) very fondly: I was 3 years old, me and my family were to my granny's house, and out of nowhere my father came to me and said "come here, I'll show you something of when I was a child". I was annoyed at first because I thought it was some boring photo album or something like that. He placed me in front of the television and the opening started, and from the very first moment I saw that car running through the desert, I was completely captured. But the actual moment when Knight Rider completely entered in my mind and soul was during the scene when Michael was injured outside the Comtron and Kitt scared the guard. It was a rerun on an Italian channel called "Duel TV", it doesn't exist anymore. I can't remember the actual day it was, but in any case that day was the day that completely crafted my life

Amazing, 42 years !! I was 11 years old back then. But it was postponed because of "legal reasons" - also funny, that Knight Rider 2000 was indeed released on VHS first in September 1992 in Germany before it was aired on TV... on RTLII in November/December 1992.

I saw the pilot first time in spring 1984. I was only six years old, but remember it well. It was first airing here in Finland. Knight rider started in spring 1984 in Finland.

I watched them all about 5 years after they originally released.

Despite me starting 9th grade that year, I didn't learn about Knight Rider until later. I watched it while it was in production but I didn't see the pilot until years later. These commercials are fun, and interesting, seeing how advertising has changed on TV. And during the old ads, KZbin has their own. With the advantage of being able to see the series from beginning to end, it shows that early on there was so much to still figure out, like making a call from KITT. Of course, had Michael called from KITT, we wouldn't have the scene with the car thieves.

In my country (Portugal), Knight Rider aired for the first time in January 1987, with the name (Justiceiro). I was just a kid with 11 years old, and it was my favorite TV show, and it still is today. I have the complete series in DVD and just bought it recently in Blu-ray, and I'm also doing the 1/8 scale K.I.T.T. collection, I'm on issue 21. Love your channel, I see all your episodes, can't wait to see the F.L.A.G. semi completed.
