The way the models and textures are constructed though makes me think the game was intended for N64. The colored models and high polygon count as well the very large texture size fits the N64 better. The N64 had texture mid-mapping and Z-buffer which combats texture warping. In a lot of the game you can see texture warping. Most PS1 games used small textures to combat this. The areas are also very large for PS1 standards as the PS1 didn't have as much RAM or polygon crunching power as the N64 so usually had smaller areas.

7:20 these are high quality turning animations. I should know, they move just like Zacian and Zamazenta in Pokémon Sword and Shield. It's an insult to compare the movement in this game to Pokemon Sword and Shield. Megaman turned and moved at the same time. In Pokemon Sword & Shit, NPCs only turn OR move. 7:20 IIRC you can quick-turn by holding left, right, or down on the D-pad and pressing Circle. It'll snap-turn you 90 or 180 degrees from your current position. 9:20 There are certain enemies that can be knocked down with a kick. Like those crab reaverbots, a well timed kick will instantly flip them and make them vulnerable. 19:40 Take out the three fliers first so the ground pounders stop respawning, then clean up what's left on the ground. They will do a lot less damage overall by taking out their ability to respawn ASAP, vs. trying to keep them away from buildings while the fliers are still active. 25:39 The helmet makes you harder to knock down when hit multiple times in rapid succession. This gives you a window to do a dodge-roll and get out of the way of whatever is hitting you.

@Haar_Dragon2 жыл бұрын
Props - a few too many people never seem to actually find the control options in the menu. The controls are still easily the worst part of MML, but the lock-on does enough to mitigate them that I still find/found it well worth playing for the charming supporting cast and fairly interesting (if a bit unfocused) story. The second-biggest problem, though, is the complete lack of subtitles...especially in MML2 where I can barely hear anyone over the BGM. Makes it hard to enjoy the story and characters when I _can't hear them._ Protecting City Hall isn't SO bad. Once you realize the Mine Thrower is trash. And that you have very little better to spend your money on than health upgrades. It is one of the rougher parts overall, but it's really more than anything a check for whether you're sufficiently used to the control scheme. If you think that's hard, just wait 'til you have three dogs jumping down your throat at the same time. And oh boy, boat town next. MML is a weird beast in that there's definitely some ups and downs, but the whole game is so short and the core exploration and upgrading stuff is engaging enough (for people who like it) that the bad parts feel like just little speedbumps. I spent a lot of time just fooling around drilling through walls and my play time was still short of 10 hours, and this wasme just fumbling around not really knowing what to do. Admittedly I had trouble holding onto this game as a child so this was a more recent runthrough, but still. MML2 on the other hand...I've still barely played, although I do at least have the digital version

My parents actually purchased this for me at my request as a bday gift when it originally released, I was like 12 I think. The first time I played it, I fell in love with it. I had no issues with the controls and got them down as soon as possible (maybe because there wasn't many other comparisons for me like there is now if you play it for the first time today). However, I did had difficulty with the open world style of play because I was just not used to that at the time and ended up getting lost at times. I eventually completed it, and it became an instant all time favorite game which I still think of today every now and then. All the side quests were great too. From re-building the destroyed town, to finding all the artifacts to be displayed in the museum. Just a great game.

I tried playing this game a couple years ago, and I just could not get past the bad controls. I mainly grew up as a Nintendo kid, but every time I try playing a PS1 game, the controls alway seem so weird and fucked up. Is that just norm for the system?

@3:44 at least to my knowledge there was plan for a final ZX game which would've tied the cliff hanger of ZX Advent and prelude the story to legends, but we all know what happened

I love this game so much. I replayed last year for the first time in over a decade and could not believe how well it held up compared to the average PSX game. The animations are so good.

Not sure if someone else brought it up, but the karma system has one practical change, the shop prices are adjusted if you've been good or bad, lowering or increasing bu 20% respectively. But I'm not sure if this is solely for MML2 or if MML1 did as well. For MML2 if you want a specific item you NEED to go negative karma to make the NPC appear. Sadly this appears to all the karma system is good for outside of people treating you better or worse depending on your karma.

I have a friend who loves the series a lot and after playing it a bit through certain means, I definitely agree that this series needs a rerelease like a collection, especially since Capcom just removed all of the games from the PSN store. I had a feeling you would have misgivings about Tron immediately falling for Volnutt but hey tsundere got to love a hero, bonus points if the tsundere is a pirate lol. But in all honesty, the controls are very iffy and I would have love to play with the analog sticks but I did have a lot of fun with the game and at least you get stuff from exploring. Pretty good review John and can't wait to see more and your thoughts on the rest of the series.

I tend to go back to Legends 1 quite a bit due to its story being relatively self-contained. I GUESS SPOILER ALERT The ending of Legends 2 leaves me far too bitter for me to want to play the game.
@DeadMeat9912 жыл бұрын
I replayed them both recently. Brother, I share your bitterness, but they are worth it.
@rock117rx22 жыл бұрын
@@DeadMeat991 Its only worth it if you are able to swallow the ending of Legends 2 if you... (1) Are willing to play this quasi-fangame version of the unreleased Legends 3 prologue. Or (2) Are able to hold on to the pipedream that MAYBE Legends could appear in Super Robot Wars to fix the ending.

@@rock117rx2 I won't refuse that those two options are sad and make the previous two games feel incomplete (since they are). But I still consider MML1 and 2 worthy experiences on their own.

@@DeadMeat991 Yeah, they are still games worth playing. I actually finished both, but the ending of Legends 2 for me leaves it in a territory where its far better for me to just play it once.

Legends was made to fulfill a quota at the time, at least, according to the episode of G4 Icons revolving around the Blue Bomber, that Sony demanded at least one 3D game to be on the books so Mega Man 8 and X4 (and so on) would be allowed on the system. However, I generally think it's not that accurate as Mega Man 8 was allowed after learning Sega accepted the game with no trouble resulting in Sony changing it's mind due to wanting that sweet cash too. And around that same time, you had Tomba! and Castlevania :SOTN so I honestly think it's a load. I think the reason to setting it so far into the future is mostly just so they didn't have to tie themselves to the timeline and allow them to do what they wanted with no restrictions of that current storyline and if the game failed, well, they can just move back to the 2D and that would be that. But thankfully it didn't but this also results in Legends being the Turn A Gundam of the whole franchise in a rather interesting way considering ZX Series was hinting at it but ended in a what if? as ZX3 was cancelled.
@rock117rx22 жыл бұрын
I never realized just how fitting the Turn A Gundam comparison is. Although, even taking into account the cliffhanger ending of ZX Advent. I dont think an actual ZX3 was ever in development. Closest thing to it was an elaborate April Fools joke about a "ZX AF" that I think was made by a site or something called "Rockman Memories" That I dont think had anything to do with Capcom.
@ashencreusetx10552 жыл бұрын
@@rock117rx2 Actually, there is an article that came out last year that Inticreates was working on ZX3 under the name ZXC, however, the staff got redirected to Mega Man 9 so the project was cancelled before anyone knew anything on the game.

I have a very big soft-spot in my heart for Megaman Legends. I also think I might be one of the 30 people that played it on PC rather than N64 or PSX. I still dream of Legends 3.... Should I put the effort needed into "finding"&playing Legends 2 and/or Tron-bonne? What do people think of those games?

Slight correction on the energy stat: Energy dictates the number of shots that can be fired (3 + # of energy points) before the buster needs to cool down. Legends 2 changes it to the number of shots you can have on screen.
