Thank you for showing this magic loop boot sock!! ❤❤❤ I've been wanting to make my son a pair of boot socks but all socks are made with thin (typical) sock yarn. I'll be using a wool nylon blend. Cotton, as sturdy as it is, to me seems not a good hiking/climbing snow capped mountains type material. Thank you again! Sock on!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉

I've just knitted a pair of these socks using hand spun alpaca fibre and I'm so pleased with how they turned out, I've tried several different patterns and they didn't look alright. Yayy! So glad you enjoyed it! I typically stop about 2" short of my foot length when I try it on, because I typically want the sock to be a bit snug and a little too short when I first put them on. Hand knit socks tend to stretch quite a bit when you begin wearing them, so I like to knit mine so they are tight to begin with and then stretch to be the perfect size.

So, while I'm waiting for my 40" to arrive, I'm viewing more of your videos! I also have a lot of DK weight yarn, so I think this is a great idea for boot socks. Loved the video! I just have one question. Why do you use sock yarn and dk weight? Is it possible to make these with just one type of yarn?
@KnittingHouseSquare
@KnittingHouseSquare 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Great question - yes you could definitely make them using one type of yarn - you would want a heavier worsted weight - something that recommends around a US 9 knitting needle size. I used two strands held together because I wanted the added durability that comes from the nylon in sock/fingering weight (heavier weights typically don't have nylon) and I liked the look that the two contrasting colors held together has. Hope that helps to clarify!

I would love to knit a pair of wool socks for a Male relative but I have no idea what to buy to do that. He said he loves good quality wool socks but then I see you were saying nylon makes them more durable. I am a total beginner i have never heard of a magic loop so I am intrigued. If you could advice me I d appreciate it?
@KnittingHouseSquare
@KnittingHouseSquare 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Great question - the reason socks often contain nylon is because it is a synthetic fiber that increases durability and elasticity of the natural wool fibers. This combination is common even among high quality commercially purchased socks - such as Ibex and SmartWool. Socks are typically hand knit out a very thin strand of yarn, called sock yarn or fingering weight yarn, where the yarn already has a blend of superwash wool and nylon. I chose to create this pattern using a thicker weight yarn not typically used for socks, so I had to create my own nylon/wool combination by holding the two strands of yarn together. I hope that helps to clarify!

Help. I’m at 18:24 and I don’t understand which side you’re working on. When I do the knit/purl on the front of the sock, I don’t arrive at all where you are. I simply have all the stitches together On one needle, the second white part that need to be knitted (with the “V”) is at the far end, not reachable with the needles. I’ve been trying to find a way to reach that part but I keep coming back to the side that is already worked on before minute 18:24. Can somewhere help me? This is my first time knitting socks ever and was using regular needles until I switched to the same circular needles as in the video (but wrong size for my yarn, don’t have another one) since I’ve been blocked here. Will appreciate any help ! Suspended my work in the meantime.
@KnittingHouseSquare
@KnittingHouseSquare 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It sounds like all of your stitches have ended up on one knitting needle, so you just need to re-divide your work for magic loop. To do this, slide all of your stitches over to the cord, then count the number of stitches you have on the top side of your work (20 stitches if you worked the same size shown in the video). At this location fold the stitches, and pull on the cord so that the stitches divide and you can slide the top stitches up to one knitting needle, and the heel stitches up to the other knitting needle. Now you should be all set to work magic loop again, and pick up that stitch from the inner corner. To prevent this in the future, make sure you are turning your work and resetting for magic loop before you knit across the front of the sock (Video Time 18:07) I hope that helps!

@@KnittingHouseSquare Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to help me! unfortunately, since I started knitting with straight needles, I was not getting the same result as you (my sock was being knitted flat). I tried watching other videos but I couldn't find a solution, so I decided to cast off where I left (made the upper part of the sock+ heel) and will try to knit the bottom/ toe part separately and sew them together.... not ideal I know but it was either that or undo all of this work! For my 2nd sock I'll use 4 double pointed needles (never tried yet). Do you have a tutorial with double pointed needles or this video can easily be applied to double pointed needles as well? Again, thank you for taking the time to write me a response, really appreciate the effort!
