After I knit socks I don't wash at all before I wear. Once I wear them I throw them in my delicates hamper & wash them each week in delicates cycle with bras and specialty clothes and them put them on my sock blockers on the drying rack. Haven't lost any socks yet.

Love the episode and I loved that you got rid of some items. I have a hard time letting go of something I have hand made and I have now made it my goal to go through all FO's, cleaning, arranging and maybe even purging some. I am a newish sock knitter so I only have 4 pairs complete. I have my first pair I knit about 5 years ago that are huge. I stopped knitting socks after that. I picked up socks again during the lockdown and I LOVE knitting them. I have watched many videos that have really inspired me, yours included. I have finished 4 pairs since March 13th and they fit! I have another pair on needles that are close to being complete and I have the yarn ready for "Sock Week" ready to go. Thanks again for all the inspiration and lovely podcasts that brighten my day.

Well, I watched to the end, but I was going to guess you had 35 pairs of socks. 😄 I have 10 pairs that I wear regularly, 9 pairs that are fall or Christmas themed, and 3 pairs that I will wear regularly once I mend them. And my 8-yr-old daughter LOVED your fashion show!

I have 7 pairs of hand knit socks. The first pair I knit is just for sentimental reasons. I had some fit issues so the two socks are not the same size! People didn’t have nearly as many clothes as we do today. My grandma had one dress for church or important events and 3 dresses for daily work. My other grandma was a teacher and owned two skirts, two blouses, a cardigan and a blazer/jacket. She mixed and matched them throughout the week and that was her entire work wardrobe. They used to laugh at how big closets were when I was growing up and no one had a walk in closet then. 😁

You are so right! We have a crazy amount of clothes now. They are cheaper and poorer quality too, lol! And we don't mend things as often. Not speaking for everyone here, but that seems to be the majority!

I have 10 pair of hand knit socks. 8 that I knit myself and 4 that my mother knit for me. But I've knit a total of 22 pair of socks so I've given 14 pair away. The pair I have on my needles now is for my sister. I live in Texas also but I still find that I wear my knit socks even in the summer.

I guess you have 28 pairs of socks. I currently have around 12 pair of knitted socks. I do wear them every day. I don't need any more, but I do like knitting them and have trouble giving them away, because the latest knitted pair is always my favorite. 😅

I loved this. I probably have a dozen pairs of socks and only about 4 fit decently. But I keep trying. I was surprised you didn’t block the larger items. Do you only do that the first time they’re washed?

Yes, I usually just blocked the first time and then I will later if needed. Most of my items don't need pins, just to be laid flat!

I understand natural fibers don’t need to be washed as often. I’m curious how many times you wear your socks before washing them......also what is your favorite sock blend? 💖

That's correct! I usually wear my socks around the house so they don't get a ton of wear. So I will go a couple weeks before washing them, but I alternate between a few pairs. I'd say you can wear them at least 5 times if not more! I like a 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon blend.
