Thank you so much for this technique! It’s so much easier than the Italian cast on, especially if you’re going to work in rounds!

ok. just tried it. this is super neat and clean. and my head is already spinning about how to do this in the round and how to cast 2 by 2 ribs on like this.

@@LauraNelkin did it in the round. no problem. cast it on flat and joined the ends when knitting the first normal row (so after joining the stitches from the two needles). so very neat and clean. used it for a pulswarmer (hands). but I kind of molded it to my hand while I was knitting (by in- and decreasing) and now I have to reproduce that for the other hand... 😄

Oh, that's easy, work it and then join into the round after you work the first row of 1 x 1 ribbing

You’re the reason I bought a roll of the stitch saver, it’s a game changer Thank you! Also, Is it possible to do a tubular cast on for 2x2 ribbing?
@LauraNelkin9 ай бұрын
Definitely, though I find 2 x 2 tubular ribbing to be not quite as flexible... I'd do a swatch to practice! You might need a bigger needle for the first part of it, and then switch to a smaller one once you've got the ribbing set up!

Hello Laura, how stretchy is this cast on in comparison with the german twisted CO. Thank you

What a smart and great way to do a tubular cast on! I'm looking forward to giving this a try. Quick question - I'm wondering if when moving on to twisted rib from here, could/should we twist the knit and purl rows as worked and then handle the live stitches the same way? Thank you!
@LauraNelkin9 ай бұрын
I think I would swatch that and make sure you like the elasticity with the sts twisted!

@lauranelkin Brilliant tutorial! Thank you for sharing this. I would love to see a tutorial of how to do a tubular cast-on in the round (starting a hat brim). I am assuming the join in the round comes after the step of slipping the stitches?
@LauraNelkin10 ай бұрын
So, joining into the round is easy! Just work the cast on, then work a row in pattern then join into the round!

I’m thinking that you could use this method to start toe up socks and not take those back needle stitches as purgatory and knit up as two sides of your sock increasing on either end

Thank you for this great tutorial for alternate, beautiful method for 1X1 tubular cast on! 😍I can't wait to try. I'm sorry if i missed where to buy this tubing, but can you provide a link for some suggestions on where to buy? I prefer silicone and I want reasonable quality. As, would you have a suggested length of the stitch saver, say, for an adult sweater?
@LauraNelkin11 ай бұрын
Ah, sorry, here's a link to a blog post that tells you more about it (that has a link!) And you'll just want to cut your length at least 6 - 8 inches longer than you need so you have a bit at each side!

Thank you for the turtoral. I'd like to know if I would use size 9 needle, can I still use 2mm stitch saver cord? or use equalan size of cord to match the needle size?
@LauraNelkin11 ай бұрын
If you are on bigger needles you can use the 3mm cord. Here's a link telling you more about it! nelkindesigns.blogspot.com/2023/05/knitting-hacks-three-game-changing-ways.html

I have a pattern I've really been wanting to start but the cast on is one I don't know. The Italian tubular cast on. What is the difference between the tubular cast on and the Italian tubular cast on?
@LauraNelkin9 ай бұрын
Ah, the Italian Tubular Cast on, uses the Italian cast on and then double knitting to set up the ribbing, this version is a folded tubular cast on.
@tlneill9 ай бұрын
@@LauraNelkin thank you! I've watched a few videos and they do seem to look very similar, but it's sounding like they're not interchangeable. The pattern I'm wanting to start is double knit.

Hi. I understood this technique. I used to do the italian cast on which gave me tubular cast on 1x1, but it was very stretchy more than demand. Is your technique in this video less stretchy? and is it different?
