Kim, that green yarn you used for the ranunculus sweater finally makes me want to make one. GORGEOUS!!!❤ The green looks great on you, btw..compliments your hair color. @@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna oh yes, I bought the musselburgh pattern but I haven't started it yet, its definitely on my list. I have knit loads of Barley hats from Tin Can Knits. It's a simple one that suits great for a quick gift knit. I also like very pink knit Double brim hat. I would really like to try knit a beret style hat and if my colourwork improves, I would love to try In a Flurry by Jill Zielinski for next Christmas! Love watching your videos. Take care, Una 😊🧶

I like metal for wool projects. Love interchangeables for spontaneous casting on. I like wood or bamboo for slippery things like linen. All my dpns and a lot of 16" fixed needles are wood/bamboo because they don't slip out of the projects like tops of hats or brioche things or little things like toys. I love you guys and your fab knitting!

I have to confess I was really happy that there were no commercials during this episode! 😀 I had actually stopped watching one day when your video was interrupted a number of times with the KZbin commercial breaks. 😢 I know that often those commercials are not your choice, it's something KZbin makes you do, I guess, but when there are commercials every five minutes, I just can't watch. 😢 So this episode was wonderful! ❣️I was trying to figure out what the beautiful sweater was - Love Note, maybe? I feel as though you had maybe talked about it in an earlier episode? In any event, very beautiful and flattering. Loved the lower neckline! ❣️

Hi Janet! Sorry about those midroll commercials. We finally figured out how to remove them, so hopefully you can go back and watch the videos you missed. Kim is wearing a Ranunculus! The details are in the show notes and even more details in her Ravelry. Yes! She finally started posting projects on Ravelry. Yay! Thank you so much for watching! ❤️ K&J

@@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna yay!!!! I will definitely go back and watch now! And thank you so much for the information on the sweater! I thought it might be Ranunculus because of a comment made, but then I was convinced the laciness looked like Love Note. We should never second guess ourselves, I guess. LOL I LOVE Ranunculus and have knit eleven of them. (Not all for myself - I have four daughters who enjoy receiving hand knits!) And I definitely plan on knitting more. It doesn't take much yarn, and it is such a quick knit. A match made in heaven, IMO. ❣️ Also, so glad to hear you are both over your March illnesses! I guess we need to not feel well once in a while to appreciate how wonderful it is to be healthy most of the time. Just like because of COVID I now marvel at how amazing it was to just go to a restaurant and eat inside with a bunch of germy strangers ....or even spend time with my children and grandchildren without being in fear of catching a disease that could kill my 'elderly' self, or even, God forbid, one of them. 😲

A little late watching this but I LOVE knitting socks. I have not heard on any podcast about the shaped arch sock. There is a pay for pattern on Ravelry I think and once you have made one or two of them you actually don’t need to follow the pattern because you can make them with any weight of yarn and/or number of stitches. It fits SOOO well and doesn’t get baggy around the foot. Also, the thing that was on the knitting traditions podcast is a Twizzter and it’s from Sweden - my husband gave me one for my birthday last month (I may or may not have guided him towards it). It is really cool although my adult children have told me not to walk around their neighbourhoods using it😂😂 Happy sock knitting!!
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna 2 жыл бұрын
So funny! I think I need a Twizzter! Do you know the name of the pattern? I searched for "shaped arch socks" but didn't get a direct hit. Thank you!
@kathincacameron5235
@kathincacameron5235 2 жыл бұрын
@@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna So it’s called the Basic Shaped Arch Socks by Marlowe Crawford on Ravelry. I use this ALL the time, for every pair of socks and just accommodate the numbers for the yarn thickness and number of stitches. As I said, once you have done it a couple of times you won’t need the pattern. I also do it on afterthought heel socks! If I have a stitch pattern then I still use it and I get a nice ‘V’ of the pattern into the foot if that makes sense. My husband has very wide feet and I have very narrow feet and the pattern is awesome for both. People have loved the socks that I have given them and then asked for the pattern.

Kate Atherly has a free sock pattern that’s really good- wise Hilda’s basic ribbed sock. It’s a 3 -1 rib so it fits really well ( like the DRK every day sock) but it is cuff down with heel flap and gusset. Having knit both, the Kate atherly sock fits my foot better and the heel feels sturdier than the fleegle heel- more durable. The fleegle heel is nice to avoid the dreaded holes.

I have a family attached to my daughter's guy. Every year, I send them hats. One of the guys spent time in Europe last spring. He send me a special Instagram post showing that one of the hats went with him. Through 30+ years of knitting, I have knit hundreds of hats. I got a message one day from a friend. We have lost touch, but she wanted me to know that her husband still wears the hat I knitted for him. He has had it for 20+years. My reaction? "I knitted him a hat?" So now I photo everything I knit. This Christmas I knitted 28 hats for everyone. Hats and socks are my favorites.

I am glad that you are both feeling better. It was great to "see" you again. I find that I knit socks on 9 inch circulars. This Nanny Knits helped someone to gather up 500 pairs of hand knit socks for a donation to an ambulance service. I have donated hats and coals to a local group that gets cold weather accessories for homeless and children each winter. I will say that I like the idea of leaving things in bus or train stations. Do you have favorite yarns for hat knitting? I have been trying to find something good and warm with the necessary stretch for a snug fit to insure a good fit for snowboarding and skiing.

Glad you are feeling better & it's so good to see you two again! For me, the type of needle affects my gauge, as I adjust my tension so I can keep my knitting rhythm. I prefer to knit on Addi needles because they are so smooth and slippery, and I can knit quicker on them. When I use different needles I end up knitting looser so that I can keep my speed. Also, I use magic loop one at a time if I'm knitting socks. I've tried small circulars once but they were uncomfortable & slow - I might give them another go at some point, but I'm not feeling it at the moment.

So glad to see you both back and healthy again. Kim if you love knitting the ranunculus you should try the Love note by tin can knits its a great knit and it has sizes from baby to adult so you can do one for your granddaughter. Also the Hermione sock pattern on ravelry is a great free sock pattern to try.

Great episode ladies. Thank you so much for mentioning Ellie's tutorials. The sock tube knitting is great for Knit clubs. In my case Knit club at the Pub. I can knit away with a glass of wine & not make mistakes. You split the tube buy cutting one stitch & unpicking a round to leave live stitches which you pick up & knit your after thought heels, toes & extra cuffs to get 4 socks (i.e 2 pairs) out of 100g. Watch Ellie's tutorials it explains it all. Loved Kim's sweater & looking forward to episode 5. Take care love from across the pond. X

I'm with you, Kim! I don't do gauge swatches -- at least, 99.9% of the time, I don't. I too use the first several inches of the project (no matter what it is) as my swatch. Only once can I recall swatching, and that's because I wanted to make a cardigan with a yarn that was very different in composition and weight than called for in the pattern. 🙂

Congratulations on how much the podcast is growing...I'm not surprised, you both are so fun to spend time with. I also do not do separate switching, I use my project. I found a great toe video I think you'll like it is definitely my new toe of choice: Turkish Cast on Tutorial for Toe Up Socks by Relatively Crafty, make sure to watch it all the way through, her method for doing the toe increases is great, no more fiddly M1R, M1L. I'm so enjoying your podcast!!! Jonna, I would love to know more about your top. Did you make it, and what pattern did you use? Also, I believe in one of your previous episodes you mentioned about making a capsule wardrobe. Can you expand upon this? (I've heard of capsule wardrobes and understand the concept of them), but would love to know about the capsule wardrobe in regards to knitting and sewing decisions.

I'm so happy you're on the "mended" side of illness. I love your cozy spot with the lovely yarn stash. Our cat Rocky would dismantle it in a flash; my stash is in zippered bags, boxes with lids, and behind firmly-closed doors. If there's an open bag, it's hanging safely on a high hook with no stairstep boxes underneath. He'll even poke his head inside bags on the floor. Yes, he's stolen skeins that end up trailing yarn all through the house! My favorite tip for striped socks or any striped piece is to use the first of two techniques demonstrated by Roxanne Richardson in her Technique Tuesday video called "Jogless Stripes Two Ways." It's easy, nearly invisible, and a great technique. Another tip: with this video and others, I post links right onto the project pages in Ravelry where I used them. For example, I know that Roxanne's jogless stripes video is directly linked on my project page for striped socks I made for my niece. I've done this with other video techniques if they're in the public domain. Happy Knitting!

I’m happy to see both of you back ! It surprises me that short circulars were more popular in the comments. I’m a beginner sock knitter. I use the addi flexi flips . I certainly want to try the short circulars but I’m wondering how everyone handles knitting the heel and toes with them? With flexible dpns - it can easily be done.

Awesome that you are back and feeling much better! How about doing a minisode on colorwork yarn management when knitting a sweater. I always have trouble with tangling, puckering, and fear of knitting a sweater. However, lovely color work sweaters by Jenn Steingass, Caitlin Hunter, and other beautiful sweater designers have color work in their designs that’s so inspiring to knit. Thanks for sharing all the wonderful tips on sock knitting! ❤️❤️

Great episode, makes sitting and weaving in ends more fun! Question for you…I just completed my first sweater (thus the ends!), how do you cast off on your sweaters to maintain nice stretch. I followed the advice given for this project but I’m not loving it. Since I’m now loving this process I want experienced advice for the future. Thanks so much and I’m glad you’re both feeling better.

This was a hard thing for me as a new knitter. I had to unpick some bind offs. For a 1x1 rib, I love the Italian BO. I also like Jeny's Suprisingly Stretch BO but I always go DOWN several needle sizes per CocoKnits. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eV6qopyqep2Eqpo&ab_channel=AndreaMowry

Happy you’re back. First sock knitting with a heel flap and gusset and I mistakenly started a color work sock. The problem I have is when I pick up stitches on the flap with a contrast color how do I get across to the other side of the flap to pick up. I can’t take the contrast across the instep as it doesn’t belong in the color work pattern. Any viewers have tips for this?! I very much appreciate it.

I’ve never worried about row gauge, my teacher advised that I just knit to the length I need. Also, often our gauge changes as we knit. BTW, I have knitted socks cuff-down on DPNs and Magic Loop, and toe up. My preferred way is DPNs. It always works best for me with one exception: it’s NOT good when car riding, or planes, as I inevitably drop a needle!
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna

I'll add you to the list! I had to use DPNs on my sleeve cuffs because that's what I had with me...I didn't mind them at all! Jonna
