65,000 workers per year is plenty. Vivek and Elon are creating a problem, by greedily asking for 20,000 more visas. But the important point is not about the characters on TV. It's the American anti-intellectualism. None of this would be a problem if American high school and college graduates were able to compete with their international counterparts in math and science. Ask any head of mathematics or science research department at a major university -- it's difficult to find 2nd generation American applicants who have the knowledge and skills to compete in mathematics and science either for distinction in their phD programs or in research, at least when compared to the best of their foreign-educated peers and colleagues.
