KNITTING NEEDLE FAVES AND FAILS

In this video I show some beautiful new yarn that came in the mail last week as well as a major project that graduated off the needles, at long last. I discuss one of my favorite knitting products, the Knit Blockers. Lastly, I share a thorough review of 10 different interchangeable knitting needle sets. I also start to lose my voice at 30 minutes! But I did make it to the end...barely.
*CORRECTION* In the video I incorrectly said the Signature needles are made from nickel plated brass. However, they are made from aircraft-quality aluminum. Thanks to a sharp viewer for catching that.**

I pick up Knitter’s Pride Royale as my go-to needles because you get the wood shaft for keeping your stitches on and warmth in your hand, plus you get the tapered metal tips to help with increases and decreases. The needles are always color coded, but in this set the cords are color coded too so you always know by sight which length you are picking up, and all cords are fully interchangeable. The needles are 5”

Hi Kristine, thank you so much for this video! It's incredible the time and effort you put into this. I've been knitting in the round on DPNs and a few circular needles for years and finally decided it was time to get interchangeables. I purchased the HiyaHiya Sharps set you recommended and they arrived today. What fantastic needles! The points are just right, the joins are super smooth, and they are easy to use. Your Excel file was so helpful while I was checking out the different needles available online. I can't imagine the hours it would have taken me to do this research on my own. I would have liked to see you compare them to some off-brand needles. I got a set I love from Amazon for I think about £26/$40. They're just a generic brand probably from China, but I've found them to be smooth, comfortable to use, there's no snagging, etc. It would be interesting to see how they stand up to the brand name ones.

Hi Kristine, thanks for this informative test. And I find it interesting and fun to see what other knitters prefer. I've been knitting since I am 4 years old (almost 50 years) and I love to knit lace patterns. So my first and foremost issue is that I like my needle tips are as sharp as possible. Secondly, I do not like very slippery needle material since I like to knit fast with a vast amount of stitches and my main issue is to keep the bulk of stitches from slipping down from the needle, so I prefer wood which has more grip, but I do have some metal needles, too. I would hate nickel plated ones, since I am highly allergic to it. And my preferred cables should lack memory, you certainly know that effect when they bend into the shape they've been stored in. So my favorite system are the ones that are called Dreamz in America that you also tested. Here in Germany, the brand is KnitPro and they are called "Symfonie". But I am not very picky with needle length, and cable quality, I also knit with long needles without cable, or anything else at that. Cables with memory effect I dip in a pot with boiling water for a few seconds. Usually, if the quality is not too cheap, they straighten out. Whatever does not, ends in the trash. I really like your videos. I really like the way you are objectifying your tests, you must be putting an amazing effort in your videos. Thank you so much! Ty so much for the in-depth review! I’m so glad that you pointed out that Addi needles are nickel plated. I have a severe nickel allergy and was just about to order the Addi needle set. I am forever thankful that I clicked on this video before I purchased that needle set. I was saved from a serious rash, because you mentioned the type of metal plating used on the needles. No other review that I watched (I watched quite a few reviews) disclosed this important information. TY again for the excellent review!

I SO appreciate this review of Inter- changeables. Currently still using straight Boye's, aluminum and plastic yet ventured into circular knitting. Purchased (blindly)a 24" bamboo and found that a sharper tip mattered to me. Researching brought me to the HiyaHiya and Chiagoo. Both are regular circulars, not interchangeable. And I understand that the cables may Not be the same material used in the interchangeable. As I knit crochet and weave with cotton, the Chiagoo bamboo has definitely saved me from retrieving dropped stitches. Haven't opened the Hiya Hiya sharp yet. Again, thank you Kristine. I have saved this to view and compare my Hiya and Chia knitting experience, with other fibers as well.

Very cool episode Kris. I have most of the same needles, too. I have decided I love fixed circulars. My Hiya Hiya needles are interchangeables and I love them but I wish they were the fixed. I have two sets of Chiagoo interchangeables but I have bought pairs of all the sizes in fixed. I hate DPN'S so I use 2 circs to do socks and hats. Such a trial to find what we like to use and so costly. They need a "needle bar "at the yarn stores to test them out;) I look forward to the swift analysis . That's another story! Hi Cheryl -- thank you! I LOVE the needle bar idea! But, yes, I think we all have to try out the different options and find out what works for ourselves. I mean, just think about the dozen techniques that could be used to knit socks! It's helpful to know what doesn't work, too. That's interesting that you have fallen in love with fixed circulars -- why did you decide on them over the interchangeables?

Basically, there is never a join issue. I am so picky about any obstruction. I am not a speed knitter by any means. I am the same way in my sewing in that I believe tools make a difference. If I enjoy the task then I want to enjoy it the best I can. The fixed Chiagoo are my favorite for socks. I know you like the short tips and I love the long tips. Maybe I have large hands!;)) The fixed just feel different in my hands. One of your episodes slip a little piece in about your skincare! Your skin is gorgeous!

I think that's probably a great idea if you don't mind buying the different cord lengths on the same fixed needle size. I mean, you might not ever use some of the cord lengths for your particular projects so that wouldn't be an issue. Aww, you are too sweet to say that my skin is gorgeous. ::blush:: Here is what my secret is: Buy a fancy lens for the camera...and sit far away from it when you record. :)

This is probably the most work I've seen someone put into a needle comparison here so far, thank you very much for this video. There are a few reviews of people complaining about the Chiaogoo Spin cords lacking quality, being less smoothe and thus unusable for them. If anyone could give their personal feedback on this, it would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for this show. You gave us good information. I am 65 and have been knitting since I was 5 years old. Just recently I began to have some pain when knitting for hours. I decided to get a set of the cubics interchangeable needles. For me it is true; the pain vanished. The metal ones are very, very sharp and my skin is thin. So, I punctured my fingers a few times. So, the wooden cubics interchangeables , and the wooden cubics and Knitpicks 4 Square double points are my go to needles now. I love to knit lace and I do not like using circulars for that. So, I bought a set of wooden 10" cubics straights, which are wonderful. I can knit for many hours again with no pain.

I recently found your videos so I am catching up. I have found that my go to needles right now or Knitters Pride Cubics in the wooden type. I have arthritis in my thumbs and was having pain using round needles. I have every size of Addi Turbo fixed cord and was finding them painful to use. The blunt tip was also bothering me when I would do M1R and M1L. The only interchangeable set I have is a Knit Picks wooden which is the same as Knitters Pride really. They are fine and have good tips. I like metal needles if I am doing magic loop for socks and usually use Hiya Hiya or Knit Picks. I have Addi Sock rockets also but the cord is a little stiff and causes ladders more than the other ones mentioned. In addition to many different double point needles, wooden and metal; I really never need to buy another needle in any side BUT I still do. I enjoy trying them all. Thanks for your research.

After lots of research and trying out a fixed set I invested in the Chiaogoo set last winter, it was the best decision ever! I agree with your assessment of the inexpensive hobby store supplies, I used to hate circulars and was soso on knitting in general, after getting good needles I seek out projects to do. I am a little obsessed now and want all the Chiaogoo sets including the Tunisian hooks and am interested in testing out some of knit picks needles too, so many tools and projects, so little time (and funds lol).

Thank you so much for the comprehensive analysis. It's a huge money saver. I've been waffling for months over which brand to invest in. I bought an acrylic needle set from Knitpicks a few years ago and it was the worst purchase I've ever made. The acylic came apart from the metal connector ends and when I tried to glue them back together they broke and I always had a problem with them unscrewing and catching my yarn. Then I got a starter set of Addi clicks because I thought the different connector type would solve all my problems but they were a bit tough to put together and the bump in the join bothered me a lot. Although it didn't actually snag, I could feel every stitch as it slid over it. I'm really glad I didn't invest in a full set. I totally agree with you about the signature needles and the lack of interchangeability. I'd hardly even call them interchangeables. It actually makes me mad that a company would charge that much money for something that lacks the main functionality of the product. You don't just buy the set and are done you have to buy a whole range of cords besides and then it's an organizational nightmare if you have 5 cord lengths for every set of needle tips. I really don't see the value in these needles.

Hi Fern! Thanks for your comment. I tried out the KnitPicks acrylics, too, and I didn't like them for a different reason. They are clear, and I found it hard to see my stitches on them. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have been looking online and no where else have I found answers re the swivel cables and interchange sets. Others have done reviews but not as comprehensively as this. It’s comforting to know I can get swivel cables separately. I’m now eager to give them a try. I had decided to try one set of fixed Hiya Hiyas size 0 and am eagerly awaiting their arrival...this is the size that works best for me on fingering. Now I feel even more confident re that choice. Obviously, I like small needles...and am now curious about the new sock knitting interchangeable sets. I hope you review them some time.

I love Knit Blockers, but you have to be careful pulling them out because they can catch on your knitting and pull the yarn. This happened once to me and I still use them but very carefully!

Love to hear! I do have interchangeable Signatures and I had them unscrew all the time. The cord is my least favorite. I originally bought 4” and had to exchange for 5” because my hands were hurting a lot. I had HH in the past and I agree with all your points . The fact is swivel is a plus. But I don’t like their cord and my favorite is the Chiaogoos. Their cords are amazing to me. I did get the twist cords to have a few! I love how each of us have different preferences!!!

Love your info each week. Hiya Hiya's are stainless steel. I had to get them because of a nickle allergy. I love my Hiya Hiya needles. My standard set are 4" tips. Hiya Hiya has extensions to make needles longer or turn the tips to straight needles. I prefer longer tips when knitting lace and just add the extension piece.

Hey Kris! What a great episode! My favorites are also Hiya Hiya ( I have the same red holder as you) and Chiaogoos. In fact, I'm currently testing out one of my girlfriend's interchangeable Chiaogoos to see how they work for me. I have tons of fixed Chiaogoos but am interested in another interchangeable set. I tried the Karbonz but something about the way I knit causes the join to unscrew, no matter how tightly I twist it. I've had the same issue with Knit Picks interchangeables. I got a couple pairs of Signatures for Mother's Day one year- they're wonderful to knit with but they also tend to come unscrewed if I magic loop with them. Hi Kathy!! ♥♥♥ You know, I do like the Karbonz and wish I had the shorter tips. If only Knitter's Pride would come out with some swivel cords, too. That would be a knitter's dream come true! For a long time I have suspected that twisting the needles while knitting is the source of a lot of people's problems with the screw-in interchangeables, even though I haven't had any problems with that myself. I thought I was going to lose my voice at the end there, but I somehow made it through the last five minutes! Thank you for watching. :)

Just found your podcast. I like it very much. I have used the Knitter's Pride knit blockers and I find them much easier to use rather than the usual T-pins. They do have sharp tips so I have to be little more careful when using. Plus, I don't lose them! I have dropped/lost so many T-Pins. Great item for any knitter/crocheter.

I can't say that I follow anyone's knitting podcasts consistently. However, I have stumbled across yours, and have 'dropped in' several times to see what you're up to. I really like that you have specific sections of your episodes. And most recently, I particularly found the episode on the various interchangeable needle sets. When I got back into knitting my first interchangeable set was Denise. I never use them any more. My next set was Caspians. The selection was probably considerably influenced by the fact that they are green. I was very upset when I needle came off the cord about 20 rows into a project. Fortunately I didn't drop any stitches. And that was before I learned what the key was for, so the needle disconnect was probably my fault. What I use most often are circulars, and my newest are cubics. I find it interesting that they are square, and I really like that the needle size in clearly marked on all of them. No needle size gauge needed. And my only DPNs are a set of about 15 sizes of very inexpensive Chinese bamboo. My preference for socks and other small diameter projects in the round is a pair of 24 inch circulars. Much more that you wanted to know, I'm sure ....except that i will be checking out more of your podcasts.

I love the cubics. I knit Portuguese style. My needles have the permanent cord, they are so much easier on my hands and they don’t twist while I’m knitting. Sometimes when I lay down my project they might twist a bit but I just untwist and go on knitting. They very seldom twist when I lay them down. I do like sharp points also. 🌸

I love a variety of needles. The needles I choose for a project will depend on yarn fiber, and the stitches in the pattern. Complicated lace patterns and silk yarns are usually on my wooden needles. Like you, I find sharp tips and smooth joins to be required in all situations. My top three circular brands are Signature, Dyakcraft DarnPretty (wood), Dyakcraft NorthernLights (aluminum), and ChiaoGoo.

Dr. Kelly I use the cubics because the round needles (I had addi and 1 ChaoGoo) caused my hands to ache. I dont have that problem with the cubic needles. I have had Kollage needles but trying to change the cords was so difficult they became stationary needles. The cubics by Knitters Pride both metal (nickel plated) and the wooden Majestics are my go to needles for every project. I like metal needles in the summer when my wooden needles seem to hold onto the yarn. Otherwise, the warmth of wood needles is my preference. Thanks for taking a scientific look at so many different interchangeable needles. I haven't seen a resource like this before and I learned a lot. I ordered a set of Lykke wood needles after Christmas and I'm hopeful i can knit with them without the hand fatigue even though they are round.

The clover Takumi sets are my favorites so far. I am not a "knitter" yet, but I am in the learning process -- for several years now. LOL Anyway, when I got the first set of Takumi's -- the interchangeable ones with the short tips -- I was so impressed with them. To me, they made making the stitches so much easier. I can't explain all that -- maybe you or another seasoned knitter can -- but, I just know it felt really good using them. So, after that, I purchased the complete set of Takumi straight needles. Just in the event that I DO begin to knit well and often. :) Thanks for all your research.

I enjoyed looking at the different needles. I love my Hiya Hiyas too, although I do use my Knitpro Karbonz and Zings a lot. My first interchangeables were the Knitpro Symphonies and they get occasional use....if my others are in use😊

I just got the Dreamz. Paid 30% extra because I was supporting my LYS. That's fine, but they're so-so. Screwing them in can be frustrating; not quality machined. And the size 11s were non-functional because the tip connector joins were too big for the cord join. I'm getting those replaced. Was assured that would be simple and easy, but now it has been a month waiting. Now all I want are some nice metal tips, instead of the birchwood of the Dreamz. Sigh. As a new knitter, only 5 years, I share your preference for short, metal, spinning, flexible cable needles and just lucked out when I ordered my Hiya Hiya sharps for a baby bunting I made for a friend's premie. Not knowing anything about circular needles at the time, I blindly also ordered Denise, pink set. I must be heavy handed because the Denise connecters and I don't get along. I almost never use them because they come apart in the middle of my work and cause a great deal of frustration and extra work to get everything back on the needles. I now use my Hiya Hiya's almost exclusively but do keep a few wooden sets on hand for air travel. I would be crushed to have my beautiful Hiya Hiya's confiscated at security. Wooden ones don't seem to be a problem but its always good to check ahead of time when traveling.

Yes, I agree about air travel, but I've never had any needles confiscated in my travels across the US and Europe. However, I've heard that Mexico doesn't allow any knitting needles on board. I think it's good to be safe and take the less expensive wood needles. :)

It's just easier for me given my knitting style (flicking). I enjoy knitting lace and after watching your video I have decided to take the plunge and buy a small short tip Hiya Hiya set. I had had my eye on them but I still had some worries, and your video convinced me that the Hiya Hiyas pretty much have all the features I want in knitting needles.

Follow up: My Hiya Hiya set arrived yesterday. I started a lace scarf with them and I literally have not been able to stop knitting. My stitches are so much more even and look and arrange themselves so much nicer even with the lace weight yarn I'm using. I was worried that since the yarn is a bit fluffy and the tips are so sharp, they would split the stitches, but it actually almost never happens. With the blunt tips I was using to knit the lace before (because of the sharp point split stitch worry) my stitches were uneven and oddly enough I got a lot more split stitches. Also, this is my first time knitting with a swivel join and my knitting is going so much faster since I twist my needles too and I used to have to spend half the time wrestling with my cables. I cannot say enough good things about the Hiya Hiyas, I love them!

When I bought my Denise circular needle set (15-20 years ago) they were the only circular set I had ever seen. I think I paid around $38. and I thought I was splurging. I've been happy with them ever since. I must visit a LYS and check out what I could have for four times the price of the Denise. Thanks for this extensive review.

Thanks for the video! I share most of your preferences. I have only tried the Knitpicks Options Interchangeable Rainbow Wood, the Knitpicks Options Interchangeable Nickel Plated, and the Addis Lace Long Tips. The Knitpicks needles are extremely similar to the Knitters Pride needles. The Rainbow Wood version was a fail for me, it actually has 2 joins - between the cable and the needle, and between the wooden part of the needle and the metal part of the needle. I had the wooden part separate from the metal part once or twice, and had to superglue it back together in the middle of a project! Both Knitpicks types would occasionally untwist t the join and yarn would snag on the screw threads. The join of the Addis have a slight 'lip' at the join, if that's the word. This is usually not noticeable, but if I'm knitting with a lace or fingering yarn I sometimes feel it drag a bit over the join. I prefer the join and the sharpness of the Addis over the Knitpick Nickel Plated, so I would say the Addis are my favorite. But as you can get the Knitpicks Nickel Plated set on sale for as low as $40 (or maybe even lower), I think it's an excellent value for the money, and it comes with a few more accessories than the Addis. If I hadn't been working in a yarn store at the time and had an employee discount, I probably would't have been able to afford my Addis. Now you have me wanting to try the Hiya Hiyas though!

Hello and thanks for your comment! Actually, the Knit Picks and Knitter's Pride needles are made in the same factory and are basically interchangeable, although the companies would discourage this. I do have a number of Knit Picks needle tips that I have bought separately (wood, acrylic, and metal), and I like them ok. The cords are, again, the same as all of the Knitter's Pride cords. After doing this review I have revived my Addi love as well. They were one of my first interchangeable sets but I haven't used them as much lately. I forgot how nice the join is, and I love the shorter length of the tips. I wish they were a little pointier, though. Regarding the Rainbow Wood -- I have not tried those, but the Karbonz are the same with the carbon shaft and metal tip. Although I haven't had any issues with them (and like them quite a lot), I've heard of people having problems with the tips snagging the yarn and so forth. You might have to try the Hiya Hiyas. :) Thank you for watching! ♥

Very informative! I am looking to purchase a set of interchangeable needles this summer and have been leaning toward the Hiya Hiya. I do not want the sharp pointy tips. I am specifically looking at their other set with the smoother tips. I have a set of Knitters Pride interchangeable metal needles with very pointy tips which are great when I want a pointy tip. Not to mention many separate individual needles. For me it all depends on what yarn I am using and what the project is. I have also seen the blocking tool you showcased with the multiple pins. I'm not sure if they were by Knitters Pride but they struck me as an amazing tool! Thank you!

Hello! Another brilliant episode! I loved your needle reviews. My favorite general knitting needles are the Chiagoos for both price and quality. For sock knitting I prefer the Addi sock rockets or Hiya Hiya Sharps. I knit 2 socks at a time on 2 circular needles and I prefer a fixed needle for sock knitting. In January I had the chance to purchase my first ever Signature needles. I chose 2 fixed circulars with the intentions of knitting socks with them. I was a bit worried about falling so in love with them that I would only ever want to use those fancy expensive needles. My worries were for nothing, I still prefer the Addi sock rockets and the Hiya Hiya Sharps. I did not care for the the tip transition on the Signatures although I loved the pointy tips. I liked this review quite a lot. I have Chaiagoo and did not know that the spin cables are interchangeable with the twisted. Iused to have problems with twisting yarns and have been hesitant to do marled knitting because of that experience. This might be just the solution I need. One aspect of the needles that I think is critically important is finding “open stock” extras, such as more cable lengths, extenders and adapters. Perhaps you will do an episode on that aspect... plus how well do these interchangeables perform over time.

HI Kristine. I am gonnaknit on Rav. My ab fab faves are cubics.I LOVE them, especially on anything 4 and up. I absolutely cannot stand the connection on add clicks but have used and loved their stationary needles forever and they have great customer svc. I regret buying the add click set, though. Rarely, but sometimes I like a wooden needle and I really like the Deborah Norville interchangables, however I find they break easily. Their cords can be used with Knitter's Pride. Denise Interchangeable needles now come in Short Sharp Tips. They are the shortest needles I've ever used, and they are great for working in tight sports. I also like the fact that I can get very short pieces of cable to use alone or add to other pieces. My hands are painful and crippled with arthritis. The Denise needles are a lot warmer in my hands all winter. I also have 2 sets of Hiya Hiya, several sets of Knit Picks Options, both wooden and nickel, a few Chio Goo, cheap bamboo straights, and I'm waiting for a set of Addi Lace to arrive this week. Different needles work best in different situations depending on the yarns used, the item being knitted, the temperature, the condition of my hands and many other factors. I generally buy one of a new needle I'm interested in, often a fixed sixteen inch circular, because I make lots of hats for charity. Using one needle for a while tells me whether or not I want the set. I do wish they all came with swivel cords. I'd replace all my static cords tomorrow.

The HiyaHiya and Chiaogoo needles are really close in my book, but I prefer my Chiaogoo because the cord is flexible but firm. I find the HiyaHiya cord sort of springs around in a way I find really irritating, but they are still great needles. It's really something you have to test for yourself!

I have a set of Takumi Clover set bamboo knitting needles . I find needles have a little too much friction, and the cords do twist. Making a new knitter a bit frustrated. I am getting to be a better knitter, and enjoying it. And now would like a new set of knitting needles. This information is very valuable to me that you have provided. I was going from Addi Clicks to Chiagoo. Now I am leaning more to the Sharp tip of the Hiya Hiya. After a couple of years knitting, I find that I do a lot of vanilla stockinette stitch projects. Therefore I prefer needles that are blunt and have a short taper. My go to have been the regular hiyahiya steel (not the sharps). The blunt needs stop from split stitches and you don't have to push the yarn as far on the short taper. I wish the hiyahiya had short tapers and they would be perfect for me at least; sharper 'lace' needles seems to be the needle trend. The sharp points and long tapers are great but I mostly reserve them for lace or intricate pattern knitting. Also great for cables which are not fun with blunt needles.

Very informative video. Thank you. I have all but one of the needles you mentioned. I don't have the Denise's but like you, I don't care for plastic needles. I also don't like the square needles but that's mainly because they don't seem to give an accurate gauge so you have to swatch a lot more. Of all of those, the Melodies of life are probably #1 for me....since Signatures are too expensive for me to have a full set. (I have 2 sets of DPNS).. After the Melodies, I guess I usually go for my Addi's. I would like a sharper point one them but it's not a deal breaker for me. Their way of connecting the tips is wonderful and they are super slick. All the others fall somewhere in the middle. I wish I liked my Marblz more but they are just too "sticky" for most of the yarn I use. Thanks again for your videos. Paula

This is the first time I've seen your show and I really enjoyed it. I found the show through a search for circular needle reviews, and I learned a lot from your comparisons. I buy needles individually as I need them and don't buy sets. I have quite a few Signatures in circulars, DPNs and love them so much that I even bought a couple pairs in short-length straights. I also have KP Dreamz and Karbonz, Addis (a few types), Clovers, Inox. But I have never tried Chao Goo or Hiya Hiya. Now that I've seen your review, I think I'll give Hiya Hiya a try. It's disappointing that most of these start at US size 2 and don't go any smaller than that. Thanks for putting together such a great show.

I have the Chiagoo set and like them. For some reason this is the only interchangeable set I have. I have bought permanent circulars after a bad incident of Knitter's pride dreams a couple of time becoming disconnected in a lace project. I think Knitters Pride has a problem with twisting like you mentioned. I haven't tried the bent tips. The Chiagoos have not become disconnected. The signatures are way to expensive for me. The only other thing besides a sharp tip and a flexible cable is a built in life line. I haven't used that feature yet but the next set I get, leaning more to the Hiya hiyas because they also have the lifeline. I also wish the chiagoo or any set would make 12 inch and 16 inch cords available in their regular sets.

very informative thank you for taking the time to do this video. I am not exactly a beginner but definitely more of a hobby knitter - I hate the knitpro karbon DPNs that I have as I find the tips slightly grind over each other and drives me crazy so I opted for the dreams when it came to interchangeables, main reason.....Price! and ease of purchase in England. I Have to say I don't have a problem with them and containing the sizes I will actually use! Would love the sharps but unless you can afford the 'complete' set (£135) the 1/2 set (small and large versions) don't seem particularly practical for your average knitter who would prefer a set containing the middle range of needles. personally haven't got the patience for anything under about 3mm except for maybe a few inches of sock ribbing. and cant see me ever using over 7. but do use 3.5 to 6 often so would need both. Might just have to get a few individually. Knitting is bloody expensive! but very therapeutic :) currently recovering from cancer treatment and using my 5mm to frantically complete some heirloom blankets! new needles should not be a priority but a woman can dream :)

Great video! I have a few sets of interchangeable needles, mainly from Knitter's Pride's i.e. Dreamz, Karbonz, Nova Platina, as well as KnitPicks' Options Short Caspian Wood set. Personally I love the Nova Platina for its smooth and sharp tips and I knit mostly with them. The Dreamz is my 2nd go to set - it is warm and smooth but also provides a little bit of grip to hold stitches in place. While the Karbonz feels nice in the hand, my pet peeve is that on some needles there is a little bit of catch on the yarn where the brass tip and carbon fiber joint meets. It also seems to make the most noise when the tips touch during knitting... I once purchased the Addi Clicks set but was utterly disappointed with them despite the rave reviews that I read all over the internet. Some of the cords could not be "clicked" into the needles, and even if they did click after a few tries, they eventually came undone when being pulled. The tips are also too blunt to my liking and I find myself spending so much more time trying to insert the tip into the stitch compared to any other needles that I have. I gotta try the Hiya Hiya. I have a fixed circular Chiaogoo but in just one size that I seldom use.

Loved this very informative episode! I have just returned to knitting/crocheting, after years of quilting... I was always overwhelmed by all the new yarns and needle choices... Circular needles? They were a brand new experience for me.. I love them... I started out with Knitter's Pride....recommended by my LYS... They were OK, but when I tried ChaiGoo's Red Lace, my heart was stollen... the stainless steel pointy tips are wonderful.. I have serious vision issues, so thise pointy tips are a godsend... My next circular purchase will be the Hyahya Sharps... Just to compare with my ChiaGoo s.. I have decided not to go the interchangeable route... They sound good...in theory...but I know I would hate to fiddle with them.. So, I'm gradually getting my fav sizes in fixed needles.. I did pick up a Clover Bamboo circular the last time I was in Joann's, and really dislike them.. I'm nit a fast Knitter...by any stretch of the imagination..but the drag became frustrating.. I was reviewing the Knitters Pride. Royal deluxe interchangable circs. Some ppl have stated that the tips have little holes in them that catch on yarn bit most ppl seem to like them. What is your opinion? Being on a fixed income, I can't take chances as sending them back is such a pain in the neck. Sharp tips is a must for me. How do you like the tips? I also like a fairly long shaft as I have arthritis and it is much more comfortable for me to have a long shaft. You go to great lengths to put out top notch videos. That's why you are my favorite!

Hi Susan -- I don't have that set, but I have seen a lot of that type of comment in reviews. I don't use wood needles very often, which is why I haven't bought these. In general, I think Knitters Pride has good quality needles. You could always try out one set of tips and a cord just to see if that little hole bothers you too much. If so, at least you haven't spent over $100 on the whole set. You could probably return it, too, if you had genuine problems with that hole catching on your yarn. Hope this helps! Thanks for the needle comparison. I liked that you had others comparing needles also. I do like square and wood but I like metal with sharp points. It is interesting how you had some same likes of points but different choices in cords then myself. I also like the printing on the needle so I can read size which some of my addi turbo rockets have on cord and it is very hard to read. I found your channel through the Grocery Girls recommendation.

The needle review was awesome! The only set I've ever had was a set of Denises that were given to me, and the lack of join smoothness and the non-flexible cable were real issues for me, so those two things would be the top two things I would look for. I'd have to try a few before I could decide about tips and such. Anyway, I will definitely be able to use this info when I'm able to invest in a new set. Thanks so much!

I just found your channel and really enjoyed this video! I am a fairly new knitter - four years and self taught. My first set of interchangeable needles were the Addi click. I have come to find the cord very annoying. Before using them, I need to put them in very hot water to lose the memory and straighten them out. From your video I realized I also twist my cables and did not even know there are swivel joins. Thank you! I have the Chiagoo interchangeable set on my wish list but am going to further investigate the Hiya Hiya sharp interchangeable set. I am a new subscriber.

Hello -- thank you so much for watching, commenting, and subscribing. A follow-up to my comments on the ChiaoGoo set in this video: I did get some of the Spin cables to use with my ChiaoGoo tips. I HATE THOSE CABLES. They do have a swivel join, but the cables are so stiff. So I would definitely recommend the Hiya Hiyas for their swivel join and lovely cables. XO

I bought Denise interchangeable needles and I am not happy with them. They cost 55 dollars and they are very cheap feeling. They are all plastic and the cords are really stiff and hard to do magic loop. They also come undone at the join so I have to constantly watch for this as I have drop lots of stitches and not even noticed right away and had a time picking them back up. I bought a set of bamboo circulars from China and I love them. The cord is so soft and pliable, they are a dream to do magic loop. Wished I bought them instead. They came in 3 days.

Hi Anne -- yes, it's all about personal preferences. I wasn't a big fan of the Denise needles either, but I have friends who love them. Glad you found some needles that you enjoy. 💜

If you like short needle tips with sharp points, you might give the Addi short tip lace interchangable set a try . It's sharp and short and makes knitting lovely! And if im not mistaken, they are not made out of nickel coated brass. However they dont have a swivvel cords, but oh boy the do knit lovely :D

Hi! Foolish me, you are right. Somehow i thought that you ment the normal basic clicks, since the picture is of the normal clicks ( that one has 10 needle sizes instead of 8). But i agree with you short tips are always better then normal ones :)

I bought two sets of the Hiya Hiya interchangeables based on your (& a couple of others) review Dr. Kelly. The smalls US 2-8 s and the large US 9-15 s, cost me about $150.00. (free shipping 😊) I asked for four inch sharp tips on both sets but the large set came with 5 inch tips which I thought I could live with because I knew how seldom I would use the large sizes compared to the small, but as luck would have it my first project on these new needles is a seamless yoke pullover on 10.5 s. I wonder if anyone out there in knit world prefers the longer tips and would want to swap? (Hey it never hurts to ask, right?) I don't mind the 5 inch tips for flat pieces like scarves, & Afghans which I would prefer to knit with bulky yarn in an acrylic mix. (I'm not hand washing a king size blanket 😂 and I don't care for superwash wool.) I love the sharp tips and the swivel also, compared to my Addi premiums fixed circulars. I have three old pairs of fixed circulars in bamboo with a swivel by Crystal Palace that really sold me on swivels.
