Heel flap and gusset has the best fit, I have never found one that fits better and I have been knitting socks for about 30 years. Stitch dictionaries are the absolute tool for designers, they are published for that purpose.

Congrats on your first weaving project. It looks great! I enjoyed your podcast. I think the design on your socks looks great. And it is fine to use a stitch dictionary to create your own pattern.
