I had forgotten all about English paper piecing, but a year or so ago, I saw a picture, and it reminded me of a WIP that my mom had that I saw when I was really little. I remembered all the little hexagons she had. (She never finished it, as she was more into sewing clothes and crocheting.) Anyway, a few months ago I called her up and asked about it, because I never really saw any quilters doing that type of thing. So she told me how it was done, and then later mailed me a sample of a few of the hexagons she had made, so I could see them in person. I really have no desire to do any quilting (knitting and crochet and cross stitch are my things), but if I did, it would definitely be the paper piecing, so it resonated with me when you said that it was scratching that itch in your brain, because I can totally understand that.

Awesome news and not surprising to me because we all can't wait to see/hear about the progress, new projects, color choices, rabbit hole adventures, gadgets and the fun of watching others who share our love of crafts I've never tried English Paper Piecing but as addicted to quilting as I was at one time I'm sure I'd need a 2nd & 3rd job to support my love of fabrics!! It's that whole visual thing & feel of the different types of fabrics. That's why I went to wire wrapping & yarn....thought that would slow me down some. Uhhhh, not happenin' so far, the wire & are piling up as I speak :) My mailman recently asked me if I'd opened my yarn shop yet because I must have finished all the jewelry I was making...LOL I am making progress though, I've joined 2 KALs & bought butane for my torch so there Mr. Mailman.... That said, touche to him and happy crafting to you friend...Connie

Congratulations on 40K!!! Back when I actually had a little disposable income, I rabbit-holed in much the same way! This is why I knit, crochet, tat, just added spinning, sew, macramé, leather carve, fold origami, do acrylic & gel nails & nail art, and bake. Other than spinning & nails, I learned everything pre-KZbin. Lemme tell ya, I freaking LOVE KZbin University!!! You can learn ANYTHING here, and I’m all about learning all the things. I’m so grateful you inspired me to pick my needles back up. I’ve missed making things so much. I’ve, much like you, designed several accessories in the past (I ought to write up a pattern or two for Ravelry…), but never a sweater. Now I want to do a cardigan!! There’s a few projects ahead of it, but it’s percolating in the ole noggin. Here’s my question: What, or who, is most inspiring to you? Or, what motivates you to create things? Or, if you feel like answering an easier question, What is your favorite “comfort” project? The kind of thing that’s super easy/mindless but satisfying. Mine’s socks or hats. Used to be chunky knit scarves, but socks are more fun.

Congratulations on 40K!!!! I first heard of EPP from Sandra from Cherry Heart. Another thing swatches are good for, keep them and down the road if you need to perform surgery on your knits you will have the exact yarn opposed to trying to find a replica of the yarn you used in the project. (I first heard of this from Roxanne Richardson) Jane Eyre has been my favorite book for as long as I can remember! I remember being a little girl and watching Jane Eyre for the first time, it was the 1943 adaptation with Joan Fontaine and Orson Welles (absolutely nothing like the book), the result was that I fell madly in love with JE. I went to the library and rented the book, it was literally so big compared to how little I was that I couldn't even get it on my bed, it was too heavy for my to lift up there. I was so disappointed when I couldn't even get past the first paragraph! I never stopped trying though. And in 2000, when my husband and I were married, we read it together (one of out favorite things to do). I at-least read it once a year. We love all the Brontë books. So good! I got a sub to Craftsy last year for $2-ish. Thank you for reminding me that I still have it!

Hey! Love the video! Congrats on 40k! I have a question. I have this discontinued sock yarn: wool + nylon, superwash. Wanted to use it for a 3 colour shawl but I'm hesitant about what kind of yarn to buy for other colours. Should I look for other sock yarns or should I not look at that so closely?
@Voolenvine2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Nalka! 💖 I would try to find a yarn with similar fiber content. It doesn't have to be exact, but something that also has wool + nylon will help keep the knitted fabric consistent. But if that's not important to you, it might be a great opportunity to add some interesting texture to your project. (i.e., a pop of sparkle, tweed ... even fluff! holding a strand of yarn together with mohair lace) I hope that helps! :)

I love your enthusiasm over designing your own sweater and for English paper piecing! I think your quilting from during your winter break got me excited about continuing on my current (and first) quilt, and so I did a little of that today with my sister. Isn't it great how actually simple circular yoke sweaters are? I've only published one pattern, but that's because it's a variation on the circular yoke, and took a bit more effort , but I've made about ten of them for myself. Congrats on so many followers! P.S. Check out Karen Brown for a ton of great tips on quilting basics. I learned a ton while knitting and watching hers and others.

CRAFTSY! Grrr! They came off super scamy to me as well when I initially signed up because it was only 8 dollars for a year, but I wanted to watch 2 or 3 things do I did and then forgot about it and the yearly subscription renewed with no reminder that it was coming up. I could have bought 2 sweaters worth of yarn for the cost of that subscription, and it's something that I'm not using nearly enough to justify. LOVED when you could just buy the lessons you want. My recommendation is to unsubscribe now and if you do find that you really love the platform, you can ways pay the full subscription price after.

I haven't! I'll add it to my reading list, though... thanks for the recommendation!

I haven't watched enough of the episode to make a comment yet if I haven't heard the trifecta of "chahnnel", "ahhmazon" and "Many Many Years"
