Was watching for ideas on a new project and once again was struck with how gentle and nice you are to the viewer. For example at 7:30 you remind us, the viewer, that this is a bit tricky and then reassure us that we'll get it. I've tried watching other tutorials and the instructors always seem so haughty. You, on the other hand, seem really down to earth and someone who really enjoys teaching novices. Thanks for making it enjoyable to be taught.

A few months ago I sent you a question on twitter about a weird tension issue at the color change jog correction that I was suddenly having. We were unable to communicate the issue successfully via the internet but your latest video gave me the solution. I've never seen you do a color change where you specified which part of the new yarn goes in which position; you do tail up, I've always done tail down. The tail down method has worked perfectly for me on every other project but when I started a striped scarf in the round I started finding holes at the color change jogs. I've only been knitting a couple of years but I've crocheted forever and tension problems have never been an issue for me. After months of experimenting I had an epiphany while watching you change yarn in the hat tutorial. I changed to the tail up method of adding yarn and my problem is corrected. In the event that anyone else has the same issue I thought I would share. Thank you, always, for your help.

I am going to make this hat! Thank you for the tutorial. I love that you were able to carry the yarn up inside the hat! I found another tutorial you made where you carried the yarn up with 3 colors. Is it done the same with 5 colors?

I do have a simpler way to get the extra twist though, because it's one of the very first techniques I learned at a workshop in Manhattan years ago when I picked up back knitting. I create a small space low in the v and pick up through that. It's faster and and I know that Lucy Neatby also has a video on the same technique I use. Check it out Very Pink Knits. So many techniques and so little time 😀

I just bought this pattern on their Cyber Monday Ravelry sale and was so sad to see that the pattern is only in chart form. I like this hat so much, this may just be the pattern that makes me actually knit from a chart for the first time!
@verypinkknits8 жыл бұрын
Mel - it's very normal to see a color pattern only available in chart form...in fact, you'd be hard pressed to find a colorwork pattern in written form. That said, it's very easy to do. I explain in the video how to read the chart.
@dianelakata13083 жыл бұрын
Intriguing! Never did fair isle. Can magic loop be used for the whole project- would eliminate DPNs, but maybe it wouldn’t work with the charts. I have been using balloons to block hats. Can adjust the size easily. Are there any drawbacks to this that you can see?

Holy cow that cast on 😱
@winstonchaychel8 жыл бұрын
that cast on is crazy! Lol an explantion of the difference between it and the sling shot would be cool. it looked like the purl bumps you would normally have on back (sling shot) would be on front? reminds me of foundation crochet stitches.
@verypinkknits8 жыл бұрын
It's the cast-on that I use for most hats that I knit. It doesn't end up looking much different, it is just much stretchier than a standard long-tail cast-on.

I would consider Shetland wool to be quite "fuzzy". Do you think the alpaca wool in the kit is more fuzzy than Shetland? Considering Fair Isle knitting originated in Shetland.

Thanks for the great tutorial! I have something I've been wondering about for a while - I've watched your video on avoiding color jogs and I've used it successfully. But do you have to do that when knitting a fair isle pattern like in this hat? Because the pattern wouldn't line up quite right at the beginning of the round, right? Thanks so much!
@verypinkknits8 жыл бұрын
There are some fair isle patterns, those with really long floats and areas where there is mostly background color and very little contrasting color, where the color-jog correction works. In fair isle like this pattern, where the two colors are both frequently used, it isn't necessary and it can even disrupt the pattern.
@danieljones238 жыл бұрын
What a beautiful pattern! Thank you very much for offering this tutorial and for bringing this lovely hat to our attention! I do have one small query: from my understanding after having done some research on color dominance, the more dominant color is actually the one kept on the bottom rather than the top. I don't know if you have found the results to be different in any testing you might have done, but with all of the conflicting information out there I would like to know for sure.
@verypinkknits8 жыл бұрын
I've heard this from a couple of other people recently. I've always carried the lighter color on top, with good results. Really, the most important thing is to be consistent throughout the entire project.
@saguiar758 жыл бұрын
Can't wait to start this hat. One question though should I try to correct the jog from row to row or will blocking be enough.
@verypinkknits8 жыл бұрын
There is no need to do any color-change correction in this pattern.

Jensen Kho There's plenty of free patterns available in her channel. You just have to watch the videos and pay attention. There's a part when she says "if you want to download the free pattern click on the "i" link on the upper right corner ..." (And she points with her finger) She does it pretty much in every tutorial. Usually there's where you'll find information about the sponsors and more.

This may be a silly question but are you suppose to wet a hat pompom? Or should it be added after wetting and blocking the hat itself ? Lol just wondering

I've only just started adding pompoms to my hats this year, but I always block before adding the pompom. When I go to wash these hats later, I'll remove the pompom then reattach when the hat is dry.

It's interesting--I learnt old norweigan cast on mostly the same except at the end I give a little twist/kick with my left thumb instead of the last two needle movements.... I wonder if it's still the same? Also, love the video! I've never followed a kit before but I am tempted! Would love to see a pattern of yours all through the back loop--I'm currently doing the purl soho "ancient stitch scarf" and it's taking me soooo long haha 😂 Do you have any tips?
@verypinkknits8 жыл бұрын
Regarding the cast-on - if your version is stretchy, too, I think both ways are good! I don't have a tutorial on a project that is entirely knit through the back loop, but I do have a short technique video on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5jag2CAftB-bM0 (I'm guessing you already know the technique, so I doubt that will help.) If you're used to working the regular knit stitch, it can feel awkward, but it gets easier with more practice. Sorry, I don't really have any specific tips to help. :)

Unless you are a mirror knitter, all knitters read charts the same way. (From right to left, when knitting in-the-round.) If you are not sure if you are a mirror knitter, this video will help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmarcqR9bbWlmMU
