i can't wait to see the socks made with unspun yarn and to hear how you like them and how they last. Thank you, and your cardigan you're wearing is wonderful, it looks so cozy.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! The cardigan is very cozy indeed. And I am also quite curious to see how the socks will feel and especially how they will hold up over time!

You're very welcome! Thank you for your lovely comment! I recently purchased my first plate of Manchelopis and am now really looking forward to knitting with it. It is so interesting to see how the different unspun yarns compare.

I love Nutiden. My most recent jumper was just one yarn and I find when it brakes simply laying the strands side my side works well--no need to twist, spit-splice, etc.
@AnnikaScheer2 ай бұрын
That sounds awesome! I would love to knit with Nutiden single stranded as well. But whenever I tried in the past, I wasn't able to get a good tension without the yarn breaking all the time. But if I remember correctly, since Höner och Eir uses different blends of sheep breeds for their collections, some colorways are sturdier than others. I simply might have to try again with a different colorway. What colorway did you use? Was it one from a recent collection?

One consideration for the Plotolopi is that it is Islandic sheep wool that is for outerwear
@AnnikaScheer8 ай бұрын
That's true, it will definitely make for some great, sturdy and warm outerwear if someone would consider it too rustic.

Sehr gut und informatives Video.Mein Problem mit der ungesponnten Wolle ist die "pilling" . Haben Sie Erfahrung damit?Danke!
@AnnikaScheer18 күн бұрын

Thank you so much for your kind words! Since filming this video, I got the chance to purchase a plate of Manchelopis. And in my knitting podcast episode 3 I compare it with Nutiden and Plötulopi with regards to softness, airiness and fragility.

Mancholopi also comes in double strand
@AnnikaScheer8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment! You're absolutely right, Manchelopis comes already in a double strand. Since filming this video, I got the chance to see Manchelopis in person and I purchased a plate. I haven't knit with it yet but I am very interested to see how it will compare to Nutiden and Plötulopi.

i agree with an earlier commenter that 500g of nutiden held double is probably not enough for an entire dress, depending on size of course -- but you might be able to make it work if you use a single strand & hold with a laceweight (silk mohair, suri, etc). i've knit several items from nutiden both single stranded & single + lace, and both hold up fine, the process of knitting the yarn gives it strength -- but 500g held double would make a good tunic-length sweater but not a whole knee-length dress, i don't think. best of luck with your project!
@AnnikaScheer8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your valuable and detailed comment! I am definitely convinced now that I am going to hold the Nutiden double with a strand of mohair/silk. Now I just need to decide on the color of the mohair yarn as well as on a dress knitting pattern, of course. I'll keep you updated! 🙃
@lauraalicewatt8 ай бұрын
@@AnnikaScheer hmm, i'm not sure i was clear -- i do NOT think you'll have enough yardage for a dress if you hold nutiden double, with only 500g -- unless it's a very small size. i think you MIGHT have enough yardage if you hold the nutiden single with a strand of something else.
@AnnikaScheer8 ай бұрын
I think it's my answer that wasn't clear - because I understood what you meant (sorry, I'm simply not a native speaker)! 🙈 What I wanted to say is that I plan to hold one strand of Nutiden with one strand of silk/mohair. And I usually make the smallest size so I am hoping it will work out. But even if I only have enough for a tunic length that has to be worn over leggings, I'm sure I'll be happy with it either way.

@AnnikaScheer4 ай бұрын
Are you referring to the Vinber dress? Thank you so much for the suggestion! 😊
@reggieInside20238 ай бұрын
I have knit many items with Nutiden. I always purchase 500 grams for a sweater quantity. 300 grams usually is good for a shawl, but that depends of course on design. A dress held in single strand is pretty much unheard of. The yarn is still fragile held single, even once it's knitted, with some blends being entirely unsuitable for single-strand projects. For something like a dress or a coat that will be pulled in a certain direction when sitting, for example, it just isn't practical for single strand. So out of the gate, to make a dress, you need to go into the project knowing you will be holding it double. I wouldn't think about a dress project without having on hand at least 800 -1000 grams of a colourway. Just check the yardage in whatever pattern you choose, and purchase double whatever spun yarn they recommend. Or hold a single strand of Nutiden with something else in a lace weight, like mohair, or a laceweight wool.

Thank you so much for your detailed and knowledgeable comment! I am leaning towards holding the Nutiden double with a mohair/silk yarn - or maybe a suri alpaca silk?

It just occurred to me…Is it possible to make one’s own “Plötulopi” from unspun fibre? I have some in my stash. Does anyone have an answer to this question? TIA
@AnnikaScheer8 ай бұрын
I have thought about this as well. I think you need a carder in order to make a consistently thick pencil roving, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone else knows more about this?
@muhlenstedt8 ай бұрын
I was also a Patreon to Nutyden Yarn but the strong pilling of my new knitted garments made they look awful, therefore I do not buy the yarn anymore.
@AnnikaScheer8 ай бұрын
That is such a pity! Especially since it takes so long to knit a garment and you look foward to wearing it. Did you try depilling the garment and see if it pills again? I think I remember that Caroline from Höner och Eir mentioned that the yarn pills at first, but once you've taken off the pills once that it doesn't happen again.
@muhlenstedt8 ай бұрын
@@AnnikaScheer yes, it is a pity, I have taken the big pilling pieces off per hand and used the depilling tool fo the rest...they came again.Perhaps you do not have the problem, I wish you lots of joy with your knit.
