Crocheter and knitter for over 20 years here... blocking knitting and crocheting is totally different.I crochet a lot and it never blocks out the same way that knitting does...because crocheting uses knots to create the fabric it doesn't operate the same... while blocking helps make the stitches more uniform and allows the yarn to relax to it's final state it doesn't usually do as much as it does when you block knit projects. That's why some crocheters will mist or steam their projects versus a full wet block how you would do in knitting. I've found full well, steam and mist to work very similarly in crochet. It might be an interesting experiment though to make 3 squares exactly the same and do them all different ways and see what the results are.

Couldn’t agree more. When you’re coming from knitting, crochet just isn’t going to block the way you might expect. For me, blocking crochet is more about straightening edges and matching intended finished dimensions, but there shouldn’t be as much of a difference between the dimensions of the item and where you want to stretch it to as there would be from a knit fabric.

Wow, this is great info. A video showing the differences would be really informative.

i just did a granny hexagon cardigan (TL Yarn Crafts ❤️) and i spent so long trying to get the two sides even-ish! I wanted to use a color changing yarn just to make it extra pretty but i ended up really digging through my 2 skeins to find the equivalent color sections in each one. Worth the extra hassle!!

You know what I would be really interested in seeing on the channel? You revisiting your older finished items and see if you would still like to wear them or if you can modify them. I think you must have a lot of them stored at your parents place and I would love to see them again.

For all the 'Granny Square' crocheters - I have a blocking board from "Chetnanigans" that is actually displayed in my craft room (looked just like the one you were using) - it comes with lots of pins and sizes and has many purchasing options. I was able to get several smaller squares on at one time and as you mentioned, with the right tension I was able to air dry at least 4-6/stack spread out vertically and I didn't need any beads. Just sharing in case that's helpful to anyone.

Yarn management is very interesting to talk about! Thanks for always talking about the little things, the logistics of things, most people gloss over it.

I love watching your planning videos. I'm finding the more I plan out my knits, the more I know what is reasonable to expect in a month's worth of knitting in terms of the time I have available and in planning out my makes for optimal progress / completion each month. Anne🐑au

A twisted sc is a great border option. Looks very similar to crab stitch but much less annoying to do.

I so hope you'll keep working on your Battenberg Blanket! I was thinking about it last week (which sounds weird to write but anyways) and how it's been awhile since we've seen it. It's sooooo beautiful!

I appreciate all the detail about yarn management for your pants. So far I have mainly knit short sleeves garments with hand dyed yarn but I'd like to knit a few sweaters and I think I will take your ideas about yarn management for the pant legs into consideration for sleeve knitting. I love the look of variegated and speckled yarns but sometimes it can be tricky to make things match up the way I would like them too.

I was given a similar blocking board for Christmas. Haven’t used it yet but it is such a beautiful piece and better than the garden foam kneeler and bamboo skewers I’ve used before

Hi Natalie. Check out the free pattern on Ravelry called "Sunny Spread". I’ve made all my squares and need to join + make the border. The border is easy and contemporary-looking to my eye.

With Granny squares, the size of the square does not actually matter for as long as you keep the stitch count on each side the same on all the squares. Then you join stitch by stitch.

You pronounced Otley Chevin correctly, its a beautiful area looking onto the old market town. On a very clear day you can see York Minster from the top of a Chevin (it is around 30 miles away).
