Knives for Bushcraft, Woodcraft and Camping. The Belt Knives I Use.

In this video, I will be showing you the fixed blade belt knives that I use for bushcrafting and general camp use. I am not a big collector of knives - I only ever take one belt knife with me to camp, so that knife has to do what I ask of it and be reliable. I have four knives that I use on a regular basis, all different and each with their own distinct features and merits - some big and heavy - ideal for heavy chopping and wood work, others much more refined all rounder camp knives, but all have their place. Some are expensive, hand made and bespoke, others much more affordable and suited to any budget.
A knife is a tool, essential for the sort of camping and outdoor activities that I like to take part in, and when used correctly for its intended purpose and when kept well maintained is a safe tool to use. Of all the kit you buy for bushcrafting or wood craft, a knife is the one item that you should spend some time researching - a good quality knife will give you years of safe and enjoyable service, a cheap, poorly made knife is simply dangerous.
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching!

On the back of this, my husband has bought me a Mora Companion in stainless steel, for my 24th wedding anniversary! We're hopefully up to Scotland at some point this year. Romantic, eh? I'm very happy.💖💘💖

I usually try to find some cons to go along with the pros.. kzbin.infoUgkxnkYCgssg4ZO858cyBdD1JPEaUJ9Up1C_ but it really is a good knife. The blade sits centered in the handle when closed (photo added). It opens effortlessly. Unlocks and closes easily with one hand. It’s a great size for EDC. I wish this exact knife came in one of the premium steels to satisfy the knife snob in me.. but it’s a great tool at a great price as it is. Would buy again.

Four very useful knives indeed. Like you I was born without the genes that would drive me to collect things. Drop points are my favorite blade shapes too. I have watched another KZbinr use the TBS Boar and noticed his dog was really alert when he was doing food prep with it. He chased down every chunk of carrot that skittered away after the Boar snapped its way through. Once they hit the dirt, they were legally his; I think it was granted to dogs in the Magna Carta or something. I’ve always liked that you had the Opinel for that purpose. Like the Moras the Opinels are a great value.

Haha - that’s why Maggie is never far away from the chopping board! I might not collect knives, but I make up for it when it comes to stoves, tents, sleeping bags, tarps, pots, pans, lamps - in fact just about everything else outdoors related! 😂👍

I carry three knifes with me when I’m out in the woods , a Buck Ghost Rider folder , a T-61 Tracker made in Oklahoma & a 13 inch German Bowie that’s very old , my father found it in the woods when he was 14 like 57 years ago so who knows how old the knife is . I use the T-61 Tracker as my work horse , my Buck Ghost Rider folder for detailed work & my Bowie for protection , I also carry a CRKT Woods Chogan T- Hawk with me also . All in sheaths accept for the folder & all on one belt & I clip the folder on the inside of my pocket so I never lose it .

👏👏👏 great video. I am 'a knife guy' & you're spot-on with different knives for different purposes. Full tangs & wide spines for battening wood & splitting etc, finer knives for slicing the veggies and food prep. They're all great knives, the thing I like about Rob's design is the heel of the blade forms a 'stop' so your wet, cold, numb or slippery hand can't slip up the handle and expose your finger tendons to your blade edge 😬. It's why meat industry knives all have 'stops' on the handles...because cut tendons mean surgery🚑🚨.

4.22. Simon the plastic toggle on the Mora sheath is to allow you to hang another knife onto it. So for example you can have a combo heavy duty Mora and a fine carving one. If you look at the back of the sheath there's a circular hole in the belt clip that will fit over the toggle of a compatible sheath.
