How did you get the steel to layer like that? I was really surprised to see that pattern considering the randomised way the nails laid in the canister. That heat and draw process without folding should have produced more of a dotted pattern... Are you sure that knife is made from the same stock you forged out?

my friend you should try using white spray paint in your canister instead of whiteout, also on your press it would be a good idea to have some kind of guide for your cylinder rod as to not run sideways and then bend the rod. just some hopefully helpful info

White paint should also work. Whiteout is basically xylene, titanium dioxide, some sort of adhesive. White spray paint should be mostly the same.

Im absolutely sure this would be a functional blade, but i still would feel better adding a high carbon core. It would ensure a long-lasting cutting edge and still have a beautiful design in the outer layers. Very cool build otherwise

@DroneShotFPV18 күн бұрын
While these knives these guys are making on this channel are nice looking and all, the MASSIVELY thick profiles don't function for anything outside of a chopper in my opinion. Sure, it can cut meat and what not, but ideally you want it to be somewhat thinner for a variety of reasons including confort in the hand and weight reduction. Is this one great at deboning a chicken or cutting through bone> Yes, absolutely, but I am just saying EVERY one of them basically are mega thick like this. It's not good for every day use that thick.
@michaelcb2717 күн бұрын
Cutting is weakening the blade!😮😢
@Meinotchu11 күн бұрын
There's massive stress focal point right where the blade meets the handle (the 90 degree turn). Will lead to the handle breaking off. With as much grinding as most of these KZbin smiths do it honestly wouldn't take that much effort to put a small radius there instead to make the knife safer to use and longer lasting.

Dowel nails? those are used in a nail gun to shoot nails into masonry and steel beams. Can't tell if it's for hilti or Spit guns, but they do the job very well, and the nails are TOUGH! That means the knife's going to be made of good quality steel. One small side note; I don't understand why people take the guards off their angle grinders and cutters, they are there for a reason, and I for one don't wish to see someone's face cut in half (again!) by flying debris if a blade lets go, and no, your mask isn't enough.. Yes, you might get better coverage, but the risks far outweigh the rewards! PLEASE put the guard back on your angle grinder when using cutting blades!
@GaisaSanktejo19 күн бұрын
Additional side note; I work in construction, and have seen people remove guards on their grinders, there are several ways to address this. They either find themnselves ordered by the foreman to reinstate the guard, have the cutter's cable severed, and said cable confiscated, the cutter confiscated, and so on. Some got kicked off site, and warned they won't be allowed back until they fix the respective tool, and repeat offenders quickly find themselves without a job.

Why are there so many "look at the knife i made with this bag of nails" videos in my KZbin feed? Did that "forged in fire" show buy KZbin or something? What is going on with with the blacksmithing? 2025 sees an unprecedented surge in blacksmithing... Is there a humongous Renaissance faire coming up? Its cool and all.. i guess, but is EVERYONE A BLACKSMITH NOW? Like EVERYONE??
