this reminds me of when i was a kid. the fact that generics are basicly the same just packaged differently. My mother worked in a bottling plant. she ran a line that filled bottles..today was ketchup, so she loaded the bottles that ran under a huge machine that filled them. she ran a load of one generic off brand then just changed the bottle and the machine filled the other bottles from the SAME vat of ketchup. From that day on I never cared about the brand name on my stuff.

Yep, most generic/store brands are made by factories which make name brands, with only different packaging, and some even use the same packaging with different labels being the only difference. Some generic/store brands do have cheaper ingredients, but most are identical or very close to it.

There was once these knock off Oreos I used to get at a local Dollar Store. When I first started buying them they looked exactly like Oreos except the name area was blank (the little area where it would've been was there it was just blank). Then later they suddenly changed the cookie design so that they looked totally different. From what I recall the taste was the same as Oreo both before and after their make over. I also never remembered their name so I always called them Fakeos.

We have an Oreo-like cookie here in the States called "Duplex Creme Sandwich Cookies" but they're not like the Duplex you showed. Actually, the only thing that makes them similar to Oreos at all is that it's made of two cookies with cream between them... the cookies themselves are quite different. The consistency and flavor of them are different, and they're also made with a yellow cookie on one side, and a black/brown one on the other. They're pretty popular here, though, because they tend to be pretty cheap and they taste alright. You tend to see them on refreshment tables at club meetings and small parties.

I tend to like different store brand "oreos" better than the real ones. They are often a little less sweet and tend to have more of a cocoa taste. I'm the kind of person who enjoys the cookie and could do without the cream.

I really like some knockoff oreos. I really dislike the biscuit part of actual oreos (to me it tastes like charcoal) so I buy a similar one at the corner shop that has a more chocolate-y taste. Same goes for Jaffa cakes- The knockoff ones are pretty good too.

Regarding those Borneo knock-offs... I bought some dog biscuits for my dog, and they have the EXACT same pattern on the cookie part, except they're a little more brown than black. They also didn't have high fructose corn syrup, but all the ingredients looked pretty much the same as Oreos. So basically, you and Ashens just ate dog biscuits...

I know people who work in food factories. The factories often will make the same type of food but for different brands of varying price. It's very possible that Borneo and Duplex we're made at the same place and are really the same cookie. I guess to make money, they just made a knock off of a knock off brand!
