Surveys show that there are many people who stay in jobs a lot longer than they want to. There are a lot of reasons why people stay in jobs that they don’t necessarily love, but how do you know when it’s the right time to actually shift a career? What kind of question should you be asking yourself?

When you see nepotism rampant in the organisation, favours given to specific staff because they know them outside of work, bosses not following business processes to grant favours, hiring people who are inexperienced and unqualified to manage qualified and experienced people...sound like there are enough warnings signs to go?

I see a lot of people saying there is nothing they can do about it due to “bills” and their current life style when it comes to being stuck at their current job that they hate. I was at this stage not long ago and I can THE BEST advice that I have to give is sacrifice! Like she said.. a complete career change may entail a deduction in pay 95% of the time so drop uneedes bills that won’t damage your credit if it isn’t damaged! Do you need the fastest WiFi? No. Then down grade the service! Is your lease almost up and you can do with a place that’s a litttttleee smaller and cheaper? DO IT! Your not stuck where you are it’s all in your mind. One thing I’ve learned over time is that no matter what the world will continue to spin.

Better to fight for the job you have and remove the illegitimate and terrible leaders. Never give up and make them fire you. Document everything and first go to HR, then to the EEOC. This isn’t the 60s and bully culture isn’t business it’s just a bad boss. Turn the tables on them. I’ve done it and so can you.

Asia Grant what should we do when things get that bad? I feel like I’m getting bullied and it’s stressing me out, there’s people with narcissistic disorder and it’s not easy working with these kind of people, feel sick in my stomach to even go to work today
@kob6069
@kob6069 5 жыл бұрын
@@slickrick9221I'm in a similar position. I work with a narcissist who has repeatedly gotten away with her bullying and toxic attitude because she is far too clever for her own good. Senior management and HR have ignored peoples complaints for two years because they know they will struggle if they lose her knowledge. So we are in a situation where they have (so far) lost eight incredibly good and hard working people, because they want to protect her lazy, toxic but sadly knowledgable butt. The real kicker is, had they dealt with her originally, they would have eight happy and hardworking people with that knowledge now, but instead they have one miserable one who will do as little as possible. I've been with my employer for 20 years and have been so reluctant to throw all that away because of one b**ch but my hair falling out because of the stress is the last straw. Even if they dealt with her now, I wouldn't stay, because the company has already shown their true colours and what they truly value.......and its not me.

*great video ladies, thank you! I also have some tips, that while not as drastic, have really led me :) 1. You don't look forward to going to work. Ever, at all. 2. You avoid your coworkers all the time and dread talking to your boss and other peers. 3. You can't wait to clock out even if the day is slower or less stressful (pretty self explanatory). 4. You would prefer working anywhere else even if you took a 1/3 pay cut etc. 5. It's not just a "bad day" or "bad attitude," you truly don't care about your work.

Ive developed stress induced dissociation. I've left work for the day, 5 minutes later I have 0 memory of the entire work day. On top of that,I recently learned that coworkers are intentionally pissing off customers so they ask to be transferred to my dept and I have to deal with them. I hear the actual supervisor call dept and I can hear them getting worn out. By how they answer the line and it turns out my employer has been completely powerless to stop it to the point they've demanded more work from managers to combat it and they don't even have the tools to do so. As a result I'm out. I was already having suicidal thoughts before I learned how inept they were, it basically just sealed the deal.

I applied for a job and i got a condtional offer pending satisfactory references, last Friday i had my offer withdrawn due to my manager giving a bad reference in a job im still in and still continue to work in because its weekend job. The job I applied for was zero hoir contract, was planning to work a couple of days during the week for extra money. So, i requested the reference he wrote, it was all lies even the date he put I started was wrong. I called citizen advice, they told me to write an email to the higher manager and explain him this and get him to re send another reference, im still waiting for a reply. I have proof its wrong information he gave. My manager never spoke to me about any of the issues he wrote on my reference. He has now left. Now he has given me a bad image to the higher manager.

Wow. Sounds like the job I just left. Took me over 30 years! Now regretting not leaving sooner. If you are overwhelmed and unhappy, make an escape plan. I spent most of those years content. The last year was the hardest. I do wish I had left 1 or 2 years ago. I was very unhappy the last few months. I stayed as long as I could. My job does offer a pension. I will benefit from my monthly income very soon. Life is too short. Find a job you enjoy. Also, management that cares is hard to find. I am now enjoying all the hobbies I never had to enjoy. Loving life now. If I had known how great this unemployed lifestyle is, I would have left my job a long time ago!😊

@@ALCAN52 So you worked 106 hours a week x 52 weeks a year = 5512 hours per year. You made $35,000 per year. You effectively earned $35,000/5512 hours = $6.35/hr. You were overworking for shit pay, even less than minimum wage (~$7.25/hr in USA) You could have worked half the time and made the same amount of money in plenty of industries. Sure, you retired early, but that seems plain stupid to me unless you absolutely loved your job. I suggest get off your moral high ground for working so many hours and retiring, plenty of people value their free time more than how many hours they can rack up on their timesheet.

I work under the very best of conditions, amazing pay, great people. I just loathe the work itself. I don't connect to it.i don't look forward to it. I don't want to progress or advance in it. I'm so ashamed. I need to leave but I love the money so much. I'd have to move to a smaller cheaper place, I'd have to face people and they would know I failed. Iam depressed. I'm not sleeping. I'm eating too much. And worst of all, I dont have any idea what I want to do with my life at 32 years old. I've considered ending it. But that would be selfish to my family. So I'm stuck more or less...How do I stop this madness?
@snopure
@snopure 3 жыл бұрын
I can relate. If you're still feeling this way, maybe ask your boss for some type of change, like a different role. I know you'd rather not advance at your job, but a change might be refreshing. Meanwhile, look for a new job at a company that invests in its people so that you could either develop a career there or return to school for a certificate or degree in a useful career field that interests you. I know it's all easier said than done (I'm going through the exact same thing right now), but it will give you something to hope for and work towards. I like the people I work with, and I appreciate the higher than average pay since they converted me to full time. My issue is that I was laid off from my dream job, got a job that I was definitely overeducated for in an industry that I had thought I left permanently behind me, and I might have stayed at this job for far too long; I'm bored, frustrated, and exhausted from penting up that frustration. This job often leaves my brain too idle, and if my bosses knew me at all they'd give me more problems to solve because at times when my brain is free to wander I start thinking about my life choices. I've had way too much time to think about things, but the bright side is I now know more about what kind of work I need to keep myself sane, productive, and even happy. I have several job applications out, and though I hate the application process, even being able to articulate what I've just told you has been a help in coping with both the job and the job search process. I hope you're doing alright and that you've been able to find a better job since you posted this.

When they start screaming at you every fucking day for every little thing (Brokers' Risk), yet they can make mistakes and it doesn't matter. And yes, if you wake up and dread going to work, it's time to move on. Regardless, no one should stay at the same job/company for more than 7 years. It takes 3 years before an employee starts contributing to his employer. Then, you work for another 3 years. Your last year, you should spend training your replacement/finding your next job.

Hi Sara, I left my job recently bc of my boss ! She is the owner of the company beside her role as Managing Director who I was reporting to. She was treating me like a shit without considering my qualifications and experience, along with my personality as human. I fought with her in many instances as reactions to her continued insults in front of other staff. I could not tolerate her any longer and I had to take my decision to quit the job. However, after 5 months of my quitting I am still searching for another job and seems it will take time to find an alternative one ! I am really feeling sick for being jobless but at the same time I cant work with that shit boss any more. After I left she reported bad about my performance and gave bad reports to any employers who wanted to recruit me ! How to deal with this situation ??

Your manager sounds like a stupid asshole. He’s using threats as a tactic, which isn’t a good way to convince someone to stick around. If he were to actually take that away, it would damage morale for the other employees, making it less likely that they’ll want to stay there too. As far as whether or not he’s allowed to do that, that’s really up to the company. If he’s not at the top level, people higher up than him may not be cool with him doing that and he could get in trouble for being a stupid asshole. Hope you got out of that situation one way or another.

If you are paid by the hour, and your hours are cut for weeks at a time to the point where your earnings for the hours worked only cover your benefit and tax deductions. Ending up resulting in paychecks for $0.00 for the week or weeks worked. That is because a manager or supervisor had the time to figure this all out so you will get checks for nothing. They are playing with you, and are trying to manage you out.
