When you learn that your personal ethics and values and the company's ethics and values are extremely different, that's a clear signal as well.
@stepoutoftherace69585 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. In those situations, you have to remember that your reputation is what matters in the long term.
@lamzy37733 жыл бұрын
@@stepoutoftherace6958 Can you elaborate on "reputation" here?
@stepoutoftherace69583 жыл бұрын
@@lamzy3773 What I mean is that over time you become known for acting with ethics and values, and that matters. Acting outside of those ethics and values can create a reputation that is damaging to your long term career. As an example, I have had former colleagues reach out to me to check on my opinions of people they are considering hiring who I have worked with previously. If those people haven't demonstrated ethics and values in my dealings with them, I then tell the person calling me and they don't get the position. It's an important example because it isn't always clear to the unethical person what has happened, they just think they didn't get the job. In fact, it is their prior behavior and reputation that is taking them out of the running.
@lamzy37733 жыл бұрын
@@stepoutoftherace6958 Hmmm......this is deep. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. Now I understand what you're saying. Would another sign be: You're so stressed and angry at work that you're one f-bomb or "explosion" away from getting fired? That's where I'm at. And it doesn't feel good constantly feeling like a ball of rage inside, even over stupid co-worker stuff that shouldn't be a big deal. *Edit* I appreciate and feel for all the folks that were/are in my same situation. I am happy to say that (after nearly a decade at that horrible job) I finally found the courage to leave. I cannot believe how much happier I am. I worried I was making a horrible mistake, but now I realize it was the best decision ever, and I wish I left years ago. I am healthier, happier, and am still surprised how NICE everyone seems at my new job, almost like I was ingrained that I wasn't worth anything, so I am constantly surprised when I receive positive feedback. Wow!

This is so true. My wakeup call was being so happy to have major surgery because I could finally get a break from work. Not the resolution of the health issue... the break from work. Joke was on me because they called me while I was out during 6 weeks of FMLA. I was irritable and angry all the time, short with loved ones and never wanted to leave the house. I just felt trapped. So happy I made a change. If you're in this position now, please know that this is similar to an abusive relationship that doesn't get better. Please look for a new role within your company or externally.

Great advice. So many people I know are afraid of making a job change, even though they are miserable. Change is not a bad thing, in fact, it’s necessary for growth and development. I changed jobs several times in my career because I realized that I didn’t like the person I had become due to the pressures and demands of the job and/or the corporate culture I was part of. My wake up call was always dreading Monday knowing that I had to go back into the office. No one likes Monday’s but there’s a difference of becoming anxious over it and just wanting your weekend to last longer.

This is very true. Years ago, I started seeing a therapist because I knew I was having issues with anger and irritability related to my workplace. I have absolutely learned that I only have but so much emotional capacity, and my job was repeatedly depleting it, which left me frustrated. Unfortunately, the build up has to come out at some point, sometimes it's at work, sometimes it's with my Mom. Ugh. The one good thing about the pandemic is that it has put a buffer/barrier between me and some of the daily, routine, triggers, and now my mom constantly says, "I have my Mikey back."

@stepoutoftherace69586 жыл бұрын
Starting your own business is very challenging, as noted by someone else in these comments. If you have the skills and it is the right opportunity, it is the best path to wealth/financial freedom... but it can also lead to bankruptcy, etc. You might consider talking to other business owners and learning from their experiences. I also recommend reading "E-Myth" by Michael Gerber... and developing sales skills before your move.

Thank you! I totally understand as I just quit my job of 14 years in sales. Stress is the number one factor. Now I’m free to look at other venues.
@tonyp93138 ай бұрын
Sales is the worst job ever. If people are interested in products it's because they have an idea of what they want. You telling them they need this & that, won't make a difference. I worked in sales for 1 year. They're always on your back, you got to meet a certain quota, & it's the most stressful job I had since hardly anyone was buying our products or services. After that no more sales.

George Karris Career Coaching Why do companies get to terminate someone without notice with/without cause yet employees quit without notice and it's seen as rude with their reputation and record of employment tarnished forever?
@stepoutoftherace69587 жыл бұрын
Here is the way I think about it: Companies get to form their reputation across many employees (which means treating one poorly from time to time doesn't really matter that much), while employees form their reputation from only a few companies, which means you have to do your best to get a positive review from each of them. It stinks, but that's the way it is. I encourage people to try and leave an employer in the most positive way possible out of self-interest, not because it is the "right thing to do." In other words, think about how it benefits you to leave in the right way. It almost always makes sense to give proper notice.

This is exactly where I'm at, kinda spooky. What's your advice for a career course change for anyone approaching 40?
@SuccessBreaks Жыл бұрын
This is a very brave disclosure. That said, I can't imagine that yelling at your child was the first indication of your job stress. Self-awareness is key to a successful life. I would recommend that you look for signs inside yourself before they manifest with your children or spouse. Thanks for sharing. Dick Richardson SuccessBreaks

I’ve been snapping. But at people I work with. Nobody I care about. And not the boss or anyone who matters to me. But good advice time to quit.

Sorry to hear that Makolle. -Although it is better than losing your family, which happens to a lot of people... I'm glad you won't make that mistake.

My previous boss is starting a brand new restaurant but it is taking forever for it to be built. My new boss does not hold the job together like my old one and I am just ready to leave. I can't leave though because I have no money.

It's interesting that this is a similar sign as it pertains to alcohol-drinking: once it has spilled over into another sphere of your life, then _you've been warned._

Thanks for this video ,,, I really find myself that person you talked about (which is you)and I'm thinking of quitting my job for about 6 months now .. I think "move on" will be my final decision and start something new.

Hi Ayman, if you've reached that point it is probably time for you to start looking into other opportunities. It is always easier to find a new position while you are still employed. Best of luck!

Without money those relations will also disappear, which actually proves that love has a price tag and its not for free at all. So, what is right to do then(?): lose money/career and relationships or just to lose relationships - just like most of things we purchase it has an expire date.

For me it’s being at the same place for 12 years and no growth whatsoever! Meanwhile the boss lady is living large off my labor and the others that work for her…it’s fucked up and as soon as I can afford to leave, I’m out!

lil shawty I wish that your parents would pay your bills for school. It is your job to study in line. Not everybody has somebody support them through college. I'm sorry that you are going through that. Good luck.

Overworked. Stressed. Can't get any help. Have talked to boss for 2 years now and nothing has changed. Don't sleep well. Job is constantly on my mind. Lazy coworkers. Tomorrow might be the day I walk away.

I found this video after a tough day when I finally broke and cried (at home) about my work situation and googled "how to deal with a micromanager high strung boss" The stress of work has definitely impacted my personal life but now I'm not sure what direction to take.

Hi Moni, thanks for the note. The good news is that now you have motivation to take action. I posted a video recently a few suggestions on what to do once you've decided it is time to move on. Here's a link, I hope it helps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5u3k42Vj5yXpbM
