I might have to think about this one for a bike to ride to work and back. I have an enduro bike with the Yamaha system, and I love everything about it...

Really nice. Cost$ ? Removable battery? Enough of a dealer network yet for service?

As a moto rider and a cyclist, I think selling these bikes through Yamaha moto dealers will be hurdle. Many moto dealers add a $400 fee called ADM fees to their motorcycles. I've seen many Yamaha dealers add this fee to these ebikes too, making a $3299 bike now $3699. The buying experience at a moto dealer can also be off putting too, like walking into car dealership.

I ended up selling my E bike because I got two fines for it's use on public roads and bike ways. In my province, it's classed as a mini bike or moped and that means they are not road worthy yet are powered vehicles that ban them from sidewalks and bike ways. They can only be used on private roads and private property. I never realized how expensive these bikes got just because of the law. They are not worth the trouble. I wish our laws would assign a vehicle class and make legal allowances for them.

It's a shame that your local laws are so bad. US Federal law considers ebikes to be explicitly "not motor vehicles" and, in general, if it's legal to ride a non-electric bike somewhere then it's also legal to ride a class 1 ebike there. The organization "people for bikes" keeps track of ebike related laws in each state. Their website can be a very helpful resource if you ever need to find out what the local ebike laws are in a specific part of the US. peopleforbikes.org/our-work/e-bikes/policies-and-laws/

Plus $250 fine every time the police pull you over and fine you for riding this vehicle on a public road. I had enough and sold mine after two such fines in a year. They aren't worth it.

@@ph11p3540 But that also depends on where you live. It's now legal where I live at.
