@@nighttimefolklore THIS!!!! Because when you know your true value, you know that it doesn't stem from how much money do you make or what car do you drive, you know your worth is inherent. Just because you exists, you have value. And when you know you have value just by existing, as a result you know that people have it too. Because they exist just like you. True self love is knowing that everyone is worth the same. No matter the degrees, the cars, the money. Everyone has worth, no one is superior or inferior. Self love is knowing you are not better than anyone else, and that's fcking ok 💞

Actually, I've never met anyone who over-estimated their value. But I've met A LOT of folks who under-estimated their value and thought the only way to make it better is to put other people even beneath them and associate with the few people that they deem "worthy". Everyone has infinite inherent value. The problem starts when you start thinking in hierarchies.

I have to admit that after all these years of following Anna, these relationship advices have finally hit. I mean, they always do but not quite enough for me to gather up all my courage and apply them. BUT. I finally broke up with someone whom I felt never truly valued me for me but for the status of being in a relationship. I have never felt this relieved ever since we started dating. I was so good at making excuses for him it was pathetic. Good riddance is an understatement at this point.

I think you're fantastic Anna. I am 46 years old and have already learned most of which you speak about but sometimes it's good to hear it out loud from someone else and to be reminded of important things. Also, I have found that doing extreme amounts of physical activity, in conjunction with focusing positively, is by far the most powerful weapon to beat negativity, stress, depression and anxiety. It puts you in a whole 'nutha world, it really does. But you must do it for at least a few weeks before you notice big change in how you feel.

Tip I learned from my therapist that helped me with self-love/knowing your value: stop your mind's negative self talk. Stop all of it. Never beat yourself up mentally, or demean yourself, or think poorly of your choices or feelings. Just by noticing and stopping these thoughts it greatly improved my self-confidence and gave me more compassion for myself.

I struggled with validation internally for a while and I believe that giving myself validation for how I get things done vs what I get done is key for me. In Anna’s case she could validated for saying how she really felt to the guys face in a way that was authentic instead just avoiding or going along with him.

Last girl I dated did the exact same thing to me (seemingly out of nowhere) and I responded the same way Anna did. Wasted another two months investing my energy in someone who didn’t really care about me. It didn’t help we were in the same friend group so I felt more pressure to try and fix things between us. I quickly learned that she is a deeply broken person with abandonment and insecurity issues and any effort I made would’ve been futile. Real life is not like Hollywood where if you just show enough love to someone you’ll magically fix them. They have to hit rock bottom first before they even recognize they need to change. Adding onto what she said about internalising your sense of self worth. This is so important guys. Valuing yourself and building your self esteem means you have to detach you and your value from the materialistic world. You are NOT what you have, own, accomplished or look like. Once you become satisfied and love you for who you are today, not for what you could be/will be, not for what you could own. But for what you are, flaws and all. This is when you truly value yourself.

WOW!! "Okay, well I'm actually looking for a commitment and I can't just hang out with people without developing feelings, so I'll have to bow out but it was really nice getting to know you" -- Anna Akana. WOW Powerful!!! In a world that continuously normalizes toxicity in place of healthy relationships!!! This was on the head, amazing!!! So powerful!!! So Great!!! I'm using this in my life!!

Ur true value is derived from facing reality and leaving ur own delusions.. Example: u want a long term relationship? Ur SM value gets lower pass the age 30.. Face that reality with a logical mind.. that is strength..

Loved this truly insight and mixed in with the humor which is a great combo to get a message across, thank you so much for sharing, this is a beautiful message from the universe that confirmed many things my intuition was telling me thank you again for your vulnerability and courageousness. Anyone on KZbin willing to share who they are and put it out there are brave warriors because the internet can tear you to shreds, disagree with you, opinionated, bring you down, want to laugh at what you believe but want you to respect what they believe, but then there’s the other side which makes it all worth it. 😊🙏🏼👍🏽❗️

In my experience self worth is a constant base layer of appreciating being myself. In other words to feel good that i am me. I lived for a very long time without that feeling, trying to validate myself externally. How to get there? I think the only way is to get honest with one self, explore the emotions going on in one self. When you know your self and when you have stripped away all the coping mechanisms previously used to seek external validation, you can begin to take care of your emotional life, and through that self worth will simply grow. Telling yourself "I have value" is not a method that works. When you acknowledge your emotions and learn to live with them and act on them in a constructive manner, that in it self is teaching your brain that you have value. Whereas repeating your wish that you want to feel good about yourself only proves you are not there, you don't wish for things you have. There is a lot of crap info about therapy, but all you need to do is get to know your self, your unhealthy coping strategies, stop using them and start using healthy strategies. Not that it is easy.... If you want therapy stick to Cognitive Behavior Therapy or Metacognitive therapy, those are the only legitimate working forms of therapy. All other forms of therapy will only work if you match up with the therapist and also are one of the lucky few who benefit by chance. All forms of therapy will feel like they works because talking to another human about your life and emotions make you feel better. That is not the same as gaining life long benefits Also vitamins are useless, people who take vitamins live shorter lives statistically. Just eat some vegggies once in a while and you will be good. I have tried being vitamin deficient, and it is pretty obvious, like debilitatingly so.
