STs platform is well known to be reliable at 600-680whp! With supporting mods, and the only thing that is limiting going past 680whp is the factory sleeves, if it wasn’t for the factory sleeves could go 700whp+ specially with a 2.3head. And port injection .

Tbh, I love my ST and I do get compliments from women. Its a different kind of compliment like its a "cute car" since its so compact and not exactly the most aggressive. But that's what makes it so nice. Unless others know its a hot hatch, its almost a sleeper. Except when it comes to the exhaust. I'm ready to shell out money for a Mountune engine and transmission in the future. Its fun to drive and not as bulky as the more popular sports cars in the US. It's also got fuel efficiency if its not modded to all hell. The biggest plus is that its suuuper easy to work on.

Most important is FMIC and a tune. Intake is nice to have for whooshy sounds but not necessary on stock turbo. hi flow cat/no cat downpipe is the last step there (no cat will smell like burnt gas when you're driving) but I would say 75% of your gains will just be from the tune

@captainhellhound74519 ай бұрын
400+ hp is considered the danger zone where you WILL need a rebuild. The stock internals can take it for a tiny bit, some people run 450 on stock internals for a long time, most don’t. I sent him an email to ask and 350whp at 150k is still safe as long as your engine is healthy. Plus since it moves the boost threshold and power up, your less likely to get LSPI.

Its hard because if I go one over the other i know ill have regrets but i just dont know which one to go with honestly.

The FA20 is more reliable than the EJ series engines. I wouldn't worry about that being a huge factor compared to the ST. Both are great platforms for modding and making solid power with the stock engine.

@EdgeAutosport4 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know. Alan would know better. But I assume you can get pretty close probably. If you used both, it's more likely.
@caperformance_motorsports3 жыл бұрын
No need to run meth with Ethanol.. we (the high performance industry) moved to ethanol fuels from methanol injection due to common issues with unequal distribution, it’s extremely corrosive to aluminum parts ect . From a professional tuner , builder stand point is use one or the other . You shouldn’t need both nor would you gain anything using both with the right tune/tuner on e50/e85 .
@caperformance_motorsports3 жыл бұрын
To answer your question simply methanol and pump 93 has gotten me over 500hp in my dsm’s time and time again . So it’s possible you could near the 300 mark but it depends on the tune , air /humidity ect

@chrispridgen20084 жыл бұрын
Might be a stupid question but, at what point should you introduce E85? Can the stock fuel system handle it?
@TMTMS34 жыл бұрын
The stock fuel system can handle low ethanol blends, up to 30%. Anymore than that taxes the fuel system too much and you'll have to sacrifice airflow/power to run higher blends. You can see gains on the stock fuel system ST with E30 completely stock and with upgraded turbos though so it is definitely worth it.

Whats your opinion on Nitrous for this platform?
@TMTMS34 жыл бұрын
I am pro Nitrous as long as you have the budget to build the motor should something go wrong. I've tuned a couple ST's on Nitrous with decent results. You just have to be careful and know what you are doing. I highly recommend nitrous controllers over the good old button too. This will make it safer from a tuning perspective.

I can’t recommend enough a LSD ! I enjoy the extra performance but I want more performance that I can feel will I get that with a bigger and better intercooler, cooler plugs and a Cobb tune ? I definitely want to go with your products and especially your advice ! Would these last upgrades be worth while ? I am also considering a water/alcohol intercooler sprayer is that worth considering ?
@pawdre5151 Жыл бұрын
A intercooler is a must the heat soak on the stock intercooler is horrendous, the step colder plugs are definitely better then stock preventing less knock, and for WMI it can definitely gain some power at the same time maintaining those dirty valves. I would not personally run Cobb OTS tunes for long term, Alan at edgeautosports will provide a much more safe but effective tune for your build.

@@bacchusthompson5834 healthy compression at sea level should be around 160 to 170. At higher altitudes like where we are, 130 to 140 is more normal. The clutch is iffy when upgrading the turbo. Usually though, if you are not launching, it should be okay.
