Very useful information. Can you show/explain how to connect/configure the Asus router with your ISP router? For example, at home I use Verizon Fios, which comes with its own router that does not have a VPN option. If I want to use this Asus Router which does come with a VPN option, how would I set it up?

Thanks much for this video and conveying your knowledge to us. Much appreciated. I also have an ASUS router (RT-AX86U). I have been unknowledgeable with regard to VPN technology. A friend of mine suggested I should definitely install it otherwise I could easily be exposed to man-in-the-middle attacks. I am not sure of the purpose of VPN Fusion, what it's for, or if I even need to deploy it, but I'll take this step-by-step. I do understand the Instant Guard function. Cheers. Jerry

Hello Sir , I have a small problem after i import the OPVN file on my remote machine . Since my home router is Dynamic Ip , i set up DDNS using your video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqa8eYp4n7d3q7c). But when i configure hostname (noip), its ip address is automatically updating with my home router TPlink ip address ( for eg 192....) . But certificate generation is successful . After exporting the certificate , When i import it on my remote machine by installing open VPN , Its showing error as DNS resolution issue with timeout error . What could be the issue here ? please help

Thank you again for all your help, and answering my questions. I still cant get VPN to work on my home network. I bought a RT-AX3000 router. Connected an ethernet directly from my root router to the wan port on it. I do get an IP from my ISP root router, but I can only access the router if I connect directly to it from one of its LAN ports in the back. I can ping it from anywhere but cannot access it. I even turned off the firewall option in the RT-AX3000 router to see if that would help, but it doesnt. I was able to configure DDNS, port forwarding on my root router and the VPN server on the RT-AX3000 router. I can stablished a VPN connection when I connect directly to it with an ethernet cable, but not when using my cell's network on my laptop. Im sure it has to do with the same issue as to why I cannot access the router from any of my other home devices, even though I am able to ping it.

I have just got a Asus RT-AX55 Wi-Fi 6 AX1800 Dual-band Mesh Wi-Fi system Router which I have hooked up successfully to mt BT Smart Hub 2. I am using the Asus for my devices and they all work fine, they all have fixed IP's. I have Plex and have setup my PC as a PMS and want to access it remotely and tried to set up DDNS. But I could not get it accepted following your recommendations above. Two things the wireless router uses private WAN IP address. When I clicked apply, it failed saying 192.168.50.1 says invalid IP address. Any idea's?

Excellent! Thanks for the response. One more question: I want to setup a VPN for a small office setting. I want to install clients on remote PCs and work laptops, that when they connect to the VPN, they use the redirect gateway so their internet traffic is encrypted. But the router at the Small office, I want it ignore the redirect so Internet at the office is not tunneled. Only remote clients should tunnel, not the client running at the office. That should be possible within the settings right?

When I set up VPN this way using Linksys WRT3200 router, it seems that my IP does not update to my server router's IP. I am able to access my router admin pages remotely, but I am not able to access local IIS websites on that network. I am reading somewhere that I need to use --redirect-gateway option to 'bridge' to the local network. But I imagine that I can't just modify the config file to do this? Also I want to restrict internet access and only be able to access local web applications. Am I going to need a more feature rich router to do these things?

I have an identical setup and couldn't get access to the machines on "the other" subnet/home. The problem was obvious when investigated, both routers/gateways had the same subnet created (192.1.1.x) so even though connected, clients' couldn't distinguish between servers/machines on the two home nets. I now use 172... for our remote location. Watching and listening to all our media are such a nice technology improvement for rainy days when the board games are all played and the fire is too boring 👍🏼 Details on openvpn.net/community-resources/how-to/#numbering-private-subnets

Hi, I have been following this and also DDNS videos which I found very good and detailed but, I am hitting a wall. As most people around, I have a home base connection, meaning a modem supplied and connected by the ISP (i.e. Bell, Rogers, etc) which provide access to the internet and, like in my case, a second modem to be used for a LAN in which, you setup your VPN server or DDNS access. So, I am getting a double NAT situation and kind of stuck there because the modem provided by the ISP is very restrictive on the things you can do or change. This issue prevents me from connecting that modem from outside. Any ideas to fix this problem will be appreciated. Thank you!

With the VPN enabled, does this slow down the download/upload throughput of devices on the home network? In other words, does local inbound/outbound home traffic (while you are using devices in your home network) also get routed through the VPN?

Unrelated question: with this particular router, are you able to pause a device's access to the wifi or set up a schedule where during a certain time frame, a certain device would not be able to access the wifi? And if this can be done, can it also be done from outside the network? I know Google WiFi allows this, but I'm wondering if this allows it as well. Thanks!
