More of that, on the stream of Sumochkin (Eggman's VA) it was said he doesn't even know a plot or at least main plot twists. Despite him voicing one of the more important characters, devs still didn't give him any info about plot. Not to mention all the taunting he got while he was trying to play the game. And even later, Humanarian (Shadow's VA) said the game was specifically designed to make people suffer. Well, they succeeded, by making metal ember and Maria a game of osu where any mistake equals to death

This is one of those games that kinda deserves to be forgotten about. Not only is it an extremely flawed game, but a lot of the folks behind it are not very nice people. They don’t really know how to handle criticism at all. And it shows with this final build. The final boss drove me insane. It took me an hour to beat it. So, yeah, I kinda hate this game haha. At least none of us ever have to play it again!

Why the heck is this game’s story tied to Sonic X? I liked that series, sure, but it really hasn’t aged well. Also, mixing it with the canon of the games simply doesn’t work because it adapted Adventure 1 and 2’s stories and used Emerl for a completely different story altogether. Both versions of those stories can’t have happened at the same time. Beyond that, doesn’t a large amount of the community hate Chris? Acknowledging him like this is guaranteed to be controversial. Also no Cosmo? Seriously? At least tell me the plant that’s related to her gets an appearance somewhere in the game.

In fact, Emerl was a reference from Sonic battle (a game necessary to understand Sonic and the dark brotherhood). They wanted making this game canon but liking Sonic X was a terrible decision.

Sonic and the dark brotherhood should have had a sequel but because of the few sells of the game and the acquisition of Bioware by ElectronicArts, the studio abandoned this idea and this game wasn't canon despite the interesting story about Echidnas, the link to Sonic adventure 1 and Sonic battle. This proves that fan games aren't necessary all better than official games. I hope that Sonic frontiers will have a good story and, if they decide to show again some vilains like Zavok, Metal Sonic or Infinite, they have to be a little more written like in Sonic IDW (even if this serie isn't perfect but Zavok has at least a better role here).

Studio is shady and hostile. They're trying to silence anyone who says anything negative. Even going after their own team members and others that helped them make the game. My buddy and I just lost our channel after posting a couple of playthrough videos for the game. Pretty sure they just mass reported our videos. We never received any notice of violations prior to that day and none of our content seems like it would've violated the community standards. But now we have to fight to get our channel back because the studio can't take constructive criticism.

Sonic lost world had also its default (mostly the story) but hadn't as much as incoherences like here. A kind of formule was created, it was good but undeepened (unfortunately). But despite it, the gameplay and level design were mostly correct and cannot exceed 14/20.

It's like all the worst aspects of the stereotypical Sonic fan creators were rolled into one product. The edgy story, the crossover fanfiction with a part of the series that has been long dead and left to obscurity, a lot of pretentiousness/self-aggrandisement from the heads of the project and a texture artist who REALLY needs their hard drive investigating based on what they did with Maria - all on top of a game that is the epitome of the old adage of "SEGA HIRE THIS MAN PLEASE!!!!!!" I'd be surprised if Sonic Omens *doesn't* leave a deep, shit-brown stain on the fabric of the Sonic fangame scene.

I'm really glad you mentioned that segment with Shadow and Chaos Dash. When I tried that level, I nearly got trapped in that section until I realized there was an extra container lying around. But if I missed just one jump, I would have been forced to go back to the last checkpoint. One of my BIGGEST problems with this game has got to be the rings scattering around you when you take a hit. Half of the time they will keep moving away from you. And the rings will literally be ungrabbable if you're in the middle of chaos control.

1. YOU CAN TARGET THE BOSSES?? 2. Those platforms that move out of the way too quickly in Shadow's level are meant to be used with Chaos Control, but that's not conveyed very well 3. I love how the final boss doesn't actually TELL you the controls for using Super Sonic. It tells you what Super Sonic can do and what you need to do to damage Exiled, but not what BUTTONS needed to be pressed to activate these new moves. 4. No playable Super Sonic after you beat the game? Do I need to get all of the Red Rings to do that? If so, screw that. No thank you. 5. I feel like one simple change would have made the bosses bearable: make the hitbox for collecting rings-- both collecting and re-collecting, much, much larger. Collecting rings in a Sonic game should feel fun and rewarding, not be an exercise in surgical precision. 6. The tree level deserves to burn for what it did to me.

Actually, the game does tell you how to fight exiled, but you need the tutorials on. Which means anytime you die, you have to put up with the tutorial interrupting you each time.

@@leik7728, criticizing something for what it is is much different than passionately hating it and calling it out on the daily. If someone passionately hates a Sonic fan game in a way where they almost go out of their way to humiliate it and nag about it, that individual needs help badly and the main problems do not exist with the game at that point. It's someone's passion project. Criticize it, point out what you thought could have definitely been better, and then shut up and move on and hope they look at what you say as advice or at least something to look into. I would say that people who like the game should do the same thing. There are definitely Sonic fan games that deserve more credit than others, and there are certainly some Sonic fan games that deserve less credit than others, but passionately hating one to such an extent only really shows how desperate people are to nag on about others. If I were to make a Sonic fan game, which I have debated upon doing, I would expect people to throw criticism, praise, and random hatred at me. I would enjoy the praise, but at the end of the day if it isn't criticism or advice, it's useless unless there is something to build off of. Yes, many people are talking about why they don't like it, which is helpful, but then they continue on their opinion on why it is such a horrible thing that should be forgotten and never played or thought of in the first place. And then it's just toxic and stupid. Nazo Unleashed is a great example of a fan work that had pretty much the opposite reaction from fans, yet pretty much did the exact same thing was even less effort. A lot of planning and effort goes into these types of games and projects, both animating and game designing, and there are always critiques to be made and opinions to be had. If someone can't be respectful or tolerant in their opinions, then they aren't worth the words they say. As a creator, it is best to put forth as much effort in creativity and everything you do, be it a personal project or a fan project, and while one has many forms of feedback that they will get, you must ignore the majority of the positive, almost all of the overtly negative, and only listen to the ones that give critical feedback to build off of for better and for worse. This game clearly has many problems, but I think it has far too many things that it tried to do and did do mostly successful and uniquely in its own design, too much so to actually call it trash or anything remotely similar. Obviously, that is my opinion, but since this is a fan game, I do believe that most of the more toxic and hateful opinions should be looked over and forgotten themselves.

Not really, I'd say Sonic Omens seems much worse. The HDTF crowdfunding was also used to acquire an official license from Valve, so the monetization was justified and approved. Yeah, they might have been lazy using pre-exiting assets, but assets can be bought, so just seeing them isn't a proof they were stolen. And to be honest, buying assets is nowhere as bad as making a questionable underwear texture for an underaged character. Also, only the project lead of HDTF was awful and tricked everyone, even the devs, unlike Sonic Omens where there are definitely more douchebags in the dev team. Heck, the HDTF devs are even still patching the game by their own will despite never getting paid by that moron (who is still getting all purchase revenue), because in the end they truly care about what they made, and want to leave something at least decent. Again verry different than the Sonic Omens devs going against anyone not praising the game. The only true similarity is the overhype, but that is pretty much what happens with most promising fan projects, only some truly deliver.

Playable Tails stages? More like Fox McCloud by the look of it! With the voice acting, I really do can't help but think "We did twenty takes, and THAT was the best one!" But for the story, it doesn't make any sense for Chris or Shadow to look at working with a Metarax. Especially when you consider the events of Sonic X and the Metarex Saga happened within the Omens universe, making it for Shadow seem like "character acts dumb so the plot can happen." Had he been mind controlled by the Metarex, like the Japanese version of Rise of Lyric, it might have been more believable but when he's already move on and what the Metarex desires flies in the face of his promise to Maria. And way to undermine the importance of the Chaos Emeralds, if Sonic can now go Super anytime he wants. Despite it being a looker, the whole thing feels like cheap bootleg, with no real respect to the original source material. Also with Weight of The World, while a good song but having heard they did have another song that dropped without warning because it didn't sound enough like Bury The Light from Devil May Cry 5 kinda turns me off from it. It seems less like, "I want to write a good song." And being more "I want to write a song like Bury the Light - with its 55,535,075 views in just about 2 years - so I can get the same attention!" Making it more like a cheap copy, rather than it coming from a place of sincerity. Especially when you look at Fly With Me from the fan project, Sonic and Tails R. Yes, like Weight, it had a vocalist who sang on the official games, Tony Harnell, but it didn't give the impression of trying to chase a modern trend, and instead were just trying to write a good song, which still fit the spirit of the source material, being the games pre-2010.

I love how they made a document to refute a lot of the claims made against them and didn't even refute the most damning ones, or at the very least the evidence they presented was some of the worst I think I've ever seen. I didn't play the game that much so I didn't really care about the whole "stolen music" or anything along those lines and they did refute that (though don't take their word as gospel they're obviously gonna defend themselves), however my main gripes were them being dicks, the whole Maria thing, and them trying to profit off of an IP that isn't theirs. The game looks nice in certain areas, but when you blow the bloom up to unreasonable extents (like SCU), it can be really overkill in many areas, taking away from the actual details. (It’s ironic that I don’t remember the game’s art style or set pieces as they’re almost nonexistent for the most part.) This game isn’t all that imo. It doesn’t deserve the unnecessary amount of praise where people call it a “masterpiece”, or “better than SEGA’s official games”, but doesn’t deserve to be overly hated to the point that people attack others that genuinely like the game either. After the drama of the game and what had come out, it makes me not want to play Omens ever again or support the creators for as long as I live. Edit: I just found out the gameplay hasn’t improved much either, meaning things like optimization issues, glitches, and etc are still in the game, which brings down replay ability in my eyes. Second edit as of 8/20/22: I played the final release as to see how the game REALLY is without the drama in mind, and hoo boy is it a mixed bag of worms. So I'm gonna mention my experience with this game and what I think of it. (Rant incoming, get ready.) The level design of the first few stages when you first start the game is the highlight, but when you continue throughout, you'll realize the game is held together with Elmer's glue. Some parts aren't clear on what to do, which can cause the player to take upwards of 15 to potentially higher than 20 minutes to complete the stage (it didn't happen to me much since I knew a bit about the game in and out, but it wasn't fun on a repeat playthrough of stages I already played and the latter ones I haven't touched before). The plane stages are not great at all, and drag out for far longer than they need to. The controls for them don't feel well polished compared to other games that use airplane physics and when you reach the second Tornado stage, anything that's pink you touch (most likely because Sonic and Tails can't handle being gay), you immediately DIE regardless of how much health you have. (It would have been really great to have a clear indicator to not touch anything pink, but the developers are allergic to giving out proper hints). Also, the bird you gotta dodge at the end of the level has jank hit detection, wonderful. While the final stage before the final boss is nice on paper, it gets obnoxious when there's this section when you have to defeat a horde of Metarex that can not only take away all of your rings, but ALSO your boost gauge. I haven't even mentioned the graphics of the game, but like I said earlier, the bloom looks nasty when blown up to unreasonable extents (like the bloom on the characters' eyes looking unnatural, or how the bloom makes certain parts of the game look inconsistent to the rest of it). The art direction is pretty bland, and barely existent as Unreal Engine and the Infinity Engine carries how the game looks (and those were prebuilt for crying out loud). It's ironic, a game from 2008 having more interesting art direction than this 💀Did I forget to mention that this game is not well optimized? It's kinda funny how I can run some stages in a near consistent 50-60 FPS experience, but the cutscenes drop to a capped 30 (and then there's one cutscene that played like a literal slide show) The bosses on the other hand, is a different story, where it ranges from somewhat acceptable to pretty awful for both newcomers and average players who already played the boost games. I don't want to waste too much time with this, so I'll mention them all as quickly as possible (with the exception of ONE boss). Most of them start out with a really rough loosy arcade-like feel where you have a small margin of error that gradually increases in difficulty as you progress through the game. This wouldn't be as bad if you didn't have to wrestle with a control that ruins the flow for both the entirety of this game and the bosses: the camera. You have to manually steer the camera with whatever controller you have; whether it be an Xbox styled controller, or a mouse and keyboard (I chose the latter for my own preference). Even with high sensitivity, you'll still have a rough time trying to move the camera as fast as possible trying to watch out for the boss' attacks and plan accordingly since the attacks aren't well telegraphed and don't have a proper cooldown. To sum it up, it's like trying to drive a self automating car that's on cruise control, but you want to take the steering wheel and maneuver to prevent slamming into hazards. (I just realized you can lock the camera on the boss using the TAB key, but why that wasn't told about or obvious before is beyond me.) The worst final boss in this game would have to be crowed to Dark Oak: Goodwill edition because my GOD was it purely luck based for me to even beat the final boss, especially the phase 2 when the 3 laser attack can't be telegraphed well as it has a higher chance of it hitting you and taking away about 10 to 15 rings (if I recall) and potentially ruin your chances of beating him than you by some miracle managing to beat the fight. The boss was SO bad it made me go mental (and this is coming from someone who S Ranked Eggmanland on the 7th gen version of Sonic Unleashed). Once I beat the boss by the skin of my teeth, I rolled the end credits, laughed at the Chris tombstone scene, and uninstalled the game. Never again am I touching this. If you like this game, more power to you. But everyone's experiences with the game are different. If the game is so frustrating that it makes the average player give up right away, that's not a good sign and not a good reason to dismiss critcisim as "sKiLl IsSuE1!1!1!" There are reasons to like this game (the music does kinda slap with the exception of the Cars 2 OST remixed/inspired) and dislike this game (all the above mentioned). But this game in my honest opinion is no masterpiece, and is WAY messier than Sonic 06 or Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. This is not worthy of the "Sega, hire this man!" mentality, and is not worthy of the best fangame ever made. Graphics can only do a small portion of good to a game that doesn't consistently play well and feel like it's trying to aggravate the player in some goofy way with a blue rat as the main star justice. The replay value is pretty low for this, and is hard for me to recommend anyone that hasn't tried this already to check out. For now, I'm gonna stick with Sonic Triple Trouble: 16 bit, Sonic and the Fallen Star, and Spark 3. (Alright, my Shark Tank pitch is done, you can go home now.)

This game has much bigger problems than just the shitty level design and poor boss mechanics. As multiple people mentioned already, the Eggman VA played the game and attempted the Maria boss fight and got extremely frustrated and the devs were making fun of him for it. And that's not even close to the worst thing. There's a texture on Maria's model in a not-so-safe-for-work placement... that says "bad girl" or something along those lines. It's a literal child and they put that there. Disgusting. Also, the devs on multiple occasions have been called out for monetizing this project and eventually promised to stop putting this game behind a paywall. Well, they did that, but asked for money on patreon and other means anyway, completely disregarding the criticisms and potential cease and desist. So we've got bullying of their own staff, pedophilia, lying and illegal monetization... on top of the shitty game design?! Yeah this game is at the top of the "Don't go anywhere near this" list.

I can tell from the tree level and Weeping Rift they take a lot of inspiration from Ori. Some things being basically identical in theme some way or another. Like 10:02, the ‘giant bird’ is basically just a resemblance to Shriek. Like for earlier in the story, when Tails is carrying Sonic, they brush past a few trees. Branches are disturbed and leaves fly into the air. Just like in WotW’s cutscene when Ku eventually flies. The next scene is also identical, when Tails ascends upwards around the mountain.

I actually think they crossed over the line between “inspiration” and “unoriginal.” Tree Palace and Waterfall Chase basically play like the Ginso Tree from Blind Forest beat for beat. The Gnarl plays almost exactly like the escape sequence from the Windswept Wastes from Will of the Wisps, and Weeping Rift is a 1:1 copy of Weeping Ridge, HELL THE NAME IS WEEPING RIFT. It even has the insta kill giant bird from those games, but even worse since you can dodge them easily in both Ori games.

God, this freaking sucks. I was one of the people who really liked this game in terms of the Shadow of Water build, and I was excited for the full thing. Come to find out that with its completion, this game was one of the most frustrating things I think I've ever played. With how the late game levels play, it's one of the most unfair trial-and-error things I think I've gone through. Everything up to the the monster thing at the end of Shadow of Water was fun for me. Then the rest of it came through. United Railroad was ehhh, strong start, bad finish, but the second Tornado level was absolutely unbearable, having spent 20 minutes in that stage. Metal Ember? Eh. Meanwhile the final level and boss fight. Screw. Both. Of. Them. The final level was pain, and the Exiled boss fight? NO. NEVER AGAIN. The first phase was awful, with the second phase being me letting all my anger and frustration out. Then the stuff with Ouroboros came out with that Google Doc, and I deleted Omens from my computer. Never touching that game again.

I think you can change the sensitivity of the tornado camera movement, not sure tho but it's worth looking into. As for united railroad, you're supposed to use chaos control to slow down time and get by the fast moving floors. As for chaos dash, it can be used to move upwards without aiming if you hold jump and activate chaos dash.

1 year late but wanted to note two things. You can change the sensitivity but when we're talking controllers? It's still pretty lackluster and stiff. Basically if you're gonna play the Tornado segments, you must use keyboard and mouse in order to have the manueverability. As for United Railroad? The problem with that segment is that they don't properly signpost to you that you can do that. You're just expected to go "Oh moving floors, better use Chaos Control." and for the record, the tutorial only shows you can do this because otherwise, timing your jumps is more than enough to get through the one segment in Shadow's first level and timing a boost and potentially a jump is fine enough to get through the floor section and the thing is? It would've been so easy for just an audio cue or even a little visual hint to suggest using it.
