Only a few realized how good the Dolphins actually were. Just the fact that Miami didn't have to do anything special, in fact they went even more basic in their approach. The result was a total destruction of the Vikings. The game was officially done in the middle of the 1st quarter after the Dolphins scored their 2nd straight touchdown to make it 14-0. The saddest part of the game was the Vikings inability to do anything outside of their basic game plan. This was one of the biggest problems with the Super Bowl back then. Coaches too stubborn to mix things up, change their personality and show the opponent that they have more than they game planned for. It wasn't until recent Super Bowls where coaches were willing to take chances, be different, switch up, even when they didn't have to, just to keep the other team honest. If the coaches back then had that mentality, maybe we would've had better Super Bowls.

After the game, players and coaches came into the room to take questions from the CBS broadcasters, much like a news conference. Also, I think they went to Bart Starr in the truck maybe only two or three times.

@@fairfaxcat1312 With the Rams, STL got completely screwed over by a greedy tyrant of an owner who I hope dies a slow, painful death. However, with the Cardinals, it was the local politicians that ran Bidwill out of town. Bill Bidwill, who was a lousy and cheap owner, at least gave STL every opportunity to build a new stadium but the city and county couldn’t come together on a deal. Sadly, I don’t think the NFL will ever make a 3rd attempt at coming back to St.Louis

This is great Obsolete Video, I did not know all of this rare stuff from the early Super Bowls exited. I read from several sources that all of this was lost, erased, or destroyed. Could it be that a whole lot more of this early NFL network stuff exists & the NFL does not want all of us old school & current fans to know? Also, I think this was the last game Ray Scott called for CBS, if not it might have been the last game he called with Pat Summerall.

The Wankel engine was great I thought. It looked like a fine oiled machine. Very efficient. Because of the rotary you are not loosing as much energy there as you are in the loose up and down motion of the pistons in the old type engine.

The second of four times the Minnesota Vikings made it to the Super Bowl--and lost. They haven't been back since 1977.
@spryfolII
@spryfolII 2 жыл бұрын
The Vikings have been to 5 NFC Championship Games since '77 and lost them all. 3 in excruciating fashion. The drop at the goal line vs the Redskins in '88. The "lets take a knee" with 40 seconds left in the 4th quarter and go to overtime against the Falcons in '98. Remember, the Vikings were 15-1 in the regular season, and had homefield throughout the playoffs. It was all set up perfectly. Too perfectly as a short FG miss by Gary Andersson set the stage for the overtime as the Falcons scored the tying TD right after and won on Morten Andersons FG in OT. In 2000 the Vikings traveled to New York with many of the same players from the '98 team, and got their Horns blown completely off by the Giants. They not only beat them down, they shut them out. 41-0. The worst loss in the history of the Vikings and the NFC Playoffs period. Next, was probably the most frustrating loss of them all. In New Orleans. Brett Favre balled out, even while getting physically beat up by the "bounty" Saints. Adrian Peterson had problems holding on to the ball, and Favre threw a incredibly stupid ball, late over the middle and the Saints win in OT. Vikings fans online could not be consoled. Last was Philly in 2018. This game was so winnable, but Case Keenum couldn't duplicate his past performances and Philly back up Nick Foles could and did. The Vikings kept giving up long touchdown drives and found themselves out of the game by the middle of the 3rd quarter and that was that. The Vikings have had their chances, but somehow always came up short. The Vikings will win a Super Bowl one year when we aren't expecting them to do anything. It will be a total surprise, and we all will be shocked.
