The introduction of the Vikings defense was the last time I had hope in this game. My 7 year old self clearly remembers seeing them introduce Wally Hilgenberg, and hoping for a victory. Sadly, 50 years later it still hasn’t happened. If only Ed White had blocked Buoniconti. If only a bogus clip wasn’t called on Stu Voigt. If only Porter had recovered Jake Scott’s 1st quarter punt muff. Funny holding call on Hilgenberg gave the Dolphins 4 points to start the second half. If only Curtis Johnson had shorter fingernails. Who was offsides on the onside kick? Kingsrighter was inbounds on the 3rd and 16. A lot of ifs, but everything went wrong for the Vikings in this game, and that defense intro brought me back to where three more Super Bowls had not been lost yet, and five more NFC championship losses hadn’t happened. Welcome to the last moment of Viking fan bliss. Cheers everyone!

oh please. they were outclassed in every phase. a guy with a broken arm dominated roid/rage/page.....if these teams played 10 games, miami would win 8, at least.....at least....

On this date in Southern California, Sunday January 13th, 1974 is only 1 month and 8 days before KPBS San Diego and other PBS stations have conducted their membership pledge drives as "Public Television Awareness Week", conducted from Friday February 22nd, 1974 through Sunday March 3rd, 1974!!

As a long time Miami Dolphin fan this is like opening a gift on Christmas morning!! Thanks for your hard work. I've always wanted to ask you this question, I know you probably have a lot of sports that you cannot put on KZbin for obvious reasons, and I'll understand if you don't won't to answer. But would you happen to have the 1971 AFC Championship game from January 2, 1972? Between the Baltimore Colts and the Miami Dolphins.

Still the best football team I've ever seen. Bengals fan here and they beat us in the playoffs that year. You never like to lose, but if you have to lose it's kind of an honor to lose to the best team ever.

Still don't understand why Pete and the site commission chose Rice Stadium to host the Super Bowl and not play the game in the Astrodome right down the road. Imagine how much more dramatic and impressive a game of this magnitude would look inside a huge domed structure, which for the time still evoked a futuristic look.
@davidhileman82518 ай бұрын
Because there were 21,882 more seats available for sale in Rice Stadium than in the Astrodome.
@danorthsidemang38348 ай бұрын
@@davidhileman8251 Even if that's true, no one could tell me that the Astrodome couldn't have been specially modified with extra seats AND that it wouldn't make for a more visually impressive site for the SB.
@jeffbowen26088 ай бұрын
Astrodome was too small, it only seated 50,000 people, not enough for a Super Bowl. Even if they were to add temporary seats, they could have put in only maybe 10,000 bleachers seats at best. Remember the previous year over 90,000 attended Super Bowl VII in Los Angeles.

You know why Don Criqui couldn’t join his CBS Sports colleagues for the Super Bowl? Because, he called the NBA on CBS game in Atlanta before the Super Bowl 0:14

He filled in for Pat Summerall who called NBA basketball for CBS at that time was doing the Super Bowl as an analyst.

Actually three Super Bowls were played at Rice Stadium, IV (Chiefs/Vikings 1970), VI (Cowboys/Dolphins 1972) and this one VIII (Dolphins/Vikings 1974).
@waynestell28084 ай бұрын
@@Bob31415Wrong, this was the only time the Super Bowl was played at Rice Stadium. Super Bowl IV and Super Bowl VI were both played at the old Tulane Stadium in New Orleans. Houston never hosted another Super Bowl until Super Bowl XXXVIII (Panthers vs. Patriots), which was played at NRG Stadium.

This was the first of four Super Bowl losses for Minnesota. Miami won this game 24-7. The Vikings join Buffalo as the only teams to lose four Super Bowls, with only the Bills dropping four straight Super Bowls making it more ignominious.
