Ko Uchi Gari, or inside reap, is a fundamental Judo takedown, which is also very useful in no gi grappling. Lots of ways to set it up, but in this clip I’m showing it off an arm drag from and over/under clinch. This and lots of others on my No Gi Judo Throws video on my KZbin channel.

It’s it’s Ko Uchi Gake because of the hooking aspect. There is no true reap in your leg movement. It’s still a cool variation and I love the channel.

Looks viable from a deep arm drag too

Very nice. One question, aren't you open to a guilliotone after/while you are landing?

Yes, if I hang out there too long. It’s rarely an issue if the timing is remotely good and the transition to passing the legs is immediate.

I though the name is "Kouchi Gake" or "Kouchi Makikomi".
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 11 ай бұрын
It wouldn’t be a makikomi, but it technically is more gake than gari because of the leg connection rather than foot connection. But I called it gari in the video, so I’ve just stuck with it and doubled down on it since then. Haha.

This is definitely a makikomi because you fall with your opponent as you execute the technique.

Makikomi implies a wrap. There isn’t any wrapping of the arm going on. He clears an arm drag and lets it go. Makikomi or wrapping would be wrapping the arm up in a twisting motion using the arm as your kuzushi or off balancing point to complete the take down, throw, or trip.

Why is it important to drag the arm to the other side?
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 10 ай бұрын
Mainly to clear the path to the legs and waist and avoid them underhooking you on the way and countering.

I’ve studied and trained judo for decades. I never tested for my black belt. I don’t care much about belts in anything these days.

People tend to fluctuate in weight over time. This was almost 2 years ago, and I was weighing about 190. I now weight about 175.

@@KnightJiuJitsu ah, makes sense. I fluctuate like crazy. I've also learned that adding unwanted pounds is like falling down the stairs: doesn't take any effort. I need to lose about 10

That leg hook .. was It invented by wrestlers or by judokas? Cause we use that a lot in wrestling

If you drop your knee and put both hands on the back of their knees and then hook their front foot with your other foot, you can get a really nice kneebar as you take them to the ground
