Checkered Baby Blanket ~ Addi, Sentro, Circular Knitting

This beautiful blanket is 42”x 40” and is made in the Addi professional, 22 needle machine.
I used Craft Smart yarn for this project and needed 2 1/2 balls of each colour.
I made it as a baby blanket but it would be excellent as a child’s blanket or an adult lap blanket.
Crochet Border:
Row 1:
Single crochet in ever second stitch down the sides.
single crochet, chain 2, single crochet in each corner.
along the top and bottom of each panel : I put 11 Single crochets in each.
Complete around then slip stitch to first stitch to join.
Row 2:
V- Stitch = (double crochet, chain 1, double crochet) in one stitch.
In same stitch as join, chain 3 and double crochet into that same stitch (this is the first v-stitch)
skip 2 sc then V- stitch into next. (Repeat all around), except corners are:
V-stitch in first section
V-stitch, ch1, V-stitch all in middle section
V-stitch in third section
Skip 2 stitches and continue pattern.
To join:
Slip stitch to top of third chain
Slip stitch into that first V-stitch.
chain 3 (counts as first double crochet and ch 1), double crochet into same stitch
V-Stitch into center of every v- stitch.
Repeat for as many rows as you like.
I prefer 4 rows.

I use sewing machine oil to lubricate my knitting machine, a drop or two inside a few of the pins and then spin for a while to work the oil into the whole machine works really well. Also I use compressed air to blow some lint out before I lubricate the machine seems to work even better 😊

I have my addi mounted to a 14.00 tool bench that I bought from harbor freight. It has an opening in the middle for the knitted fabric to fall through. If I am doing something really long and it goes to the floor, I put in into a salad spinner that sits on the floor under the tool bench. It allows the long fabric to spin and not twist up. Works great.

It sure can. Follow the same pattern but do 5 panels. Do a small sample of maybe 3 colour changes and see if you like the length of your rectangle. If not then change your row count and keep the total panel between 195 and approximately 215 rows. Somewhere in there.

I love that you can keep knitting with your Addi 22 and it goes down through the hole. I saw a video, sorry, I can't remember who it was to credit her, where she used a salad spinner basket underneath the knitting to allow the knitting to turn and not twist up. I thought it was a brilliant idea . She used a workmate bench which I also thought was a clever idea to grip the Addi without it's legs but space is a premium in my little home and I already have far too much in it! I can't go buying any more when there is no space for it. I can't help buying yarn though!!

Go slower and make sure you use the yarn the your machine loves. Course to the feel yarn (often the cheap yarn) doesn’t work easily. You will get it. Keep trying! 🥰

I do not crochet (other than straight lines as a kid - you can imagine how thrilled my mom was in how I was using her project yarn) and I am having a major issue with doing the tube close - even with your excellent in video walk-through. I'm find it hard to discern where to create the stitches (along with start and finish). Do you have (or know where I could find) a remedial short video that I can reference to make the process easier. An example of how bad I am is that I am needing to use my fingers to pull the hook through and under the various looks. 🤦‍♂ I want to create a "heritage" blanket for two friends who recently moved to a small house on property of daughter/son-in-law/granddaughter and plan to die there (likely sooner rather than later). The "heritage" factor is I would like the blanket to be something they can snuggle under with their granddaughter and when they sadly pass it will be something that she can have to remember them by (hopefully it will retain their "scent/fragrance") and be a source of comfort. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. FWIW ... I am starting a non-monetized site with playlists and you are one of my favorite creators. Grateful to see your recent additions.

Love the whole set! I’ve made the Addi bears as well but my ears don’t turn out like yours. Those ears are so dang cute will you be doing a tutorial or can you tell me how you did your bear ears? I have the sentro 22 and 48 machines. The 22 is giving me so many issues I'm going to return it. Lol maybe I should have gotten this one?

Are you sure it’s not the yarn you are using or the tension. Try changing both and if you still don’t like it then you definitely can’t go wrong with the Addi 22. It’s the best machine out of all of them in my opinion. I rarely tuck stitches on it.

@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet I was using red heart medium 4 yarn in colors red and maroon. I wasn't having issues when I first got it that much but then I started trying a strip of a blanket and got 135 in and it started making that noise like it was stripping the gears. Took it all off and totally apart! Put it completely back together and it still is doing the same thing.

Make sure the switch on the side of the machine is on circular and not panel knitting. Also make sure that your tension isn’t tight.

@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet I did have it on the middle tension. Tomorrow I'm going to take the machine apart again and try to see how I can fix the clicking sound then I'll try it on the loose setting. Also, yup I have it on the T and not the P

I’m not sure I would take it apart. If you are using a courser feeling yarn medium tension is still to tight. I rarely use tensioners on any of my machines. I hold it very lightly between two fingers. I caution because I really do think it’s most often difficult yarn and tension. But I hope you figure it out. It must be frustrating.

Hi from a new subscriber. :) This is beautiful work! I love to knit and crochet, and recently got my hand on addi machines so currently trying to find beautiful things you can make with them. This blanket is for sure among those things. In fact, I've already started with my first baby blanket which will be fall themed in colors and will surely make a cuddler and a hat shaped like a pumpkin to go with it. I called it that and then edited it because I thought it was wrong. The braided join is also when you drop stitches when you cast off and then use the dropped stitches to join. It also forms a bigger braid. But much bigger. Thank you so much for telling me. I appreciate it.

The easiest way to take off the waste yarn is to use a US1 or 2 -5 inch Chiaogooo circular needle with a 14 inch cable With socks i just open heel location and place an afterthought heel, to knit decorative fairisle design i use two needles With 1/2 stitches on each. Make great socks fast. great for pre-teen & teenagers to learn , besides adults. Make cash selling homemade sock sets or toys.
