Small piece of advice......to save the stress on the driver, use a breaker to loosen the lug nuts to make the job easier on your driver
@stevestevensky7 жыл бұрын
The problem is that using a 1/4 impact driver with a hex shank receiver as an impact wrench will wear out the head much faster. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
@lorenfok10974 жыл бұрын
Agree to a certain extent...but alot of that stress actually gets taken out on the socket adapter which eventually causes the adapter to snap. Can get another one for a few bucks. Most people say just spend the money for a 1/2 impact wrench but for some DIYer that's a little too much wrench for their needs. I do home/woodworking and a little bit of automotive. So an impact driver hits all those needs for me without breaking the bank.
@barrykery11754 жыл бұрын
That is asking a lot from a 1/4" drive impact wrench. I was surprised when the Kobalt impact wrench actually removed the lugs from your truck. Very impressive. I just purchased the Kobalt 1/2" drive 24 volt impact wrench and I am very impressed with it. I am thinking of getting the 1/4" drive as well. Good video, very informative. Barry

What's the name of the adapter you used on the hex chuck kobalt? I just got one but trouble finding that adaptor.

I think it's called 1/4 hex to 3/8 (or 1/2") adapter.

@@vuaeco thank you yup that's it. Found them at lowes and amazon..ordered a 3 piece set from Amazon with 1/4 3/8 and 1/2" socket with the 1/4" hex shank. Thanks again. Kobalt ftw!

Be sure to use impact sockets instead of the chrome ones. You could possibly shatter the chrome sockets

I've done some research and Kobalt 24v tools are really good stuff and I think I'm going to invest in me a set very soon, I will start with the hammer drill and impact wrench kit then add to the line up as I get more money

Kobalt isn't bad. I just went to lowes tonight and saw them. I own a nice dewalt brushed set that I got for pretty cheap and am happy.

Joshua Overman I don't have the brushless xr set. The kobalt tools are good but I already had dewalt tools so got a brushless impact driver bare tool but the kobalt ones are powerful and batteries for them are cheap.

does anyones 1/4 impact have a slight rattle when shook back and forth? I am not sure if it is something normal or not but I have never noticed this on any single driver I have ever owned?
@vuaeco7 жыл бұрын
That's not normal. Maybe something comes loose inside. You may want to open it up and check it out. Hopefully not from a broken gear.
@jonasausiura1657 жыл бұрын
thanks for the quick reply.. Hmm, rattle might not be the best word to describe it. Its always hard to describe sounds using letters and words. I would say its more like a slight tapping back and forth. When you have it in your hand and jerk it forward once and then back, its like something along the drive moves a quarter of a half of a mm to one side (or the other). Its really strange to describe, but I am 50% thinking something is wrong and then 50% thinking thats just how they are put together. But yea, youre right, I probably should take it apart and take a peak, I think Im going to before I take it back.

I found an answer if anyone else was curious about this, I went into Lowes and felt all the drivers.. Now, I like Kobalt as much as anyone else who has their kit but that is one of the things I am not a big fan of, all of their drivers that I have ever felt to date, has some wiggle or sound when shaken, it must just must be something to do with their production, though I doubt it affects their use any... But that is something you don't feel with a Dewalt, one thing Kobalt should probably look into during their next phase of 24v stock- Reduce shaking noise of the tool, tuck in certain parts better, etc..

Did not care for they video. Felt like you just drug it on. I do how ever really like your choosing of impacts that you compared. It was a very good choice and answered a lot of questions I had. Thank you for the video.

I can guarantee you are not strong enough to strip those lug nuts by hand especially with that tiny tire tool.
@daviddahl41487 жыл бұрын
All of these tools would do better if you use work a lot better if you use sockets designed for impacts.

I noticed you have a 18v battery on your 20v impact driver.
@vuaeco8 жыл бұрын
The Kobalt 20V and 18V have interchangeable batteries.
@willkerr25408 жыл бұрын
My point was the 20v tool will not have as much power using an 18v battery, so you don't know that the 20v won't remove the lug nuts
@vuaeco8 жыл бұрын
There is absolutely no difference between the 18V Li-ion and 20V Li-ion batteries. That is just how they name them. If you open them up, they all have five 18650 cells at 4.2V each.

I own and use impact driver for removing lug nuts. But I only do it about 2-3 times per year. Can't justify buying an impact wrench for that. I like being able to drive fasteners as well as remove lug nuts with one tool.

@lorenfok10974 жыл бұрын
Price to performance ratio Kobalt wins flag out. The cost of an XC Milwaukee battery is the cost of a Kobalt Tool. Milwaukee might be king of power tools. But they take advantage and rape on the battery prices cause they know people will buy.

@chrisjones61658 жыл бұрын
Lol no u did not or ud know it would have taken off the lug nut
@vuaeco8 жыл бұрын
Nah. It might take off "some" nuts if you don't torque the nuts tight enough. I find it easier to remove nuts from alloy rims as the nuts have flat ends. So maybe that. But for the most parts, no. At least it didn't do it on my car.
@chrisjones61658 жыл бұрын
+vuaeco I torqued my truck to 130ftlbs and my qtr in Milwaukee impact got it off. maybe u had a defective tool or battery was dead or old an wore out. either way it should have done it. model # is 2650, not even the fuel series
@jamesdean49928 жыл бұрын
They make a compact 1/2 inch driver i believe. The 3/8 wrench could probably get most lugs nuts off too. The 1/4 inch shaft is too small for half inch stuff. My milwaukee breaks half inch adapters
