Kobalt Tools One bit of constructive criticism I could currently give is that it’s very frustrating to me that currently the bare tool 1/2” impact wrench is completely unavailable. I can’t give you the model # because it’s been removed from lowes.com. Anyways it’s the heavy duty one with 650 fpt. Not the smaller one with 200 fpt. I’ve been wanting one to review and can’t get one... also don’t really need/want more bags/batteries/chargers or want to pay for the package deals. 😊

Any chance Kobalt will come out with a battery powered finish or brad nailer? I'm on the platform, but hate to add another platform to the mix. Also, will Kobalt continue to be offered long term at Lowes. I'm worried about the Craftsman line now being offered. Hopefully Kobalt won't be discontinued.

Milwaukee and DeWALT use Samsung 18650s. Kobalt uses lower quality LG 18650s. That's why their battery packs are cheaper. Also, as you mentioned, anything goes wrong; just take the tool back to Lowe's. Have read numerous reports of Kobalt tools that simply quit working out of nowhere. Okay, normally not an issue. But one acquaintance bought two Kobalt tire inflators. Put them in each car. Year later, he went to check on them. Both didn't work. Thinking it was their batteries, he grabbed another battery that was fully charged. Still nothing. Imagine getting a flat tire, pulling out one of those Kobalt inflators.... and you get nothing. Hopefully you're not on some isolated back country road. A great warranty isn't always so great.

I love Kobalt brand myself... I owned a few of them. At one time I thought craftsman was the thing until I really looked into the power of the impacts drive. Sold and trade it in at Lowe's for the Kobalt brand. Like you said it's a store brand but holds and power as big box stores. I have an 24v 5amp battery for my 1/2 impact 650lbs and using the 4amp for the 3/8 impact. Why I love it a lot is because some name brand don't have the 3/8 impact drive but Kobalt has it and cheaper to buy and works just the same or even better

I once had few Kobalt 24V tools, and I think they are good. But for those who might think to buy this line, here is one advice. Do NOT buy the drill and the impact driver separately. Buy the combo kit. Combo kit price is not bad. But they are not available as bare tools, so the only option to buy the other is as a kit and those kit prices are not cheap. At the end, buying two separate kits will cost about $100 more than the combo kit with additional 2Ah battery.
@FletchDoesIt6 жыл бұрын
Kyong Song Yes, this is pretty much true for all manufacturers. The big 6+ piece kits are also almost always the cheapest way to go.

No one is saying the aren't available as bare tools. Simply stating the fact that, generally speaking, buying your tools in multi-tool kit is almost always the cheapest way to go... especially if said kit is on sale.

I have the Kobalt lawn mower that takes 2x 24v 4.0Ah batteries. I find it amazing that I can use the same batteries to do literally everything a powertool can do. I even charge them off solar power, so I can cut my lawn with the same sun power that grows it. Higher voltage means no torque sag in anything, and lesser heat and wear on the batteries.

My sister just got into the kobalt line. Initially, I was somewhat disappointed. I am a ridgid user. But, after seeing more and more videos on the kobalt line, I am somewhat happy for her. I will say though, as far as rigid is concerned, if you walk into a store and try to warranty it out, and they simply do an over-the-counter replacement, which they should not do, you have just lost your warranty, your lifetime warranty on that battery. You need to contact ridgid and find an authorized repair center for it to be determined that indeed the battery and or tool is bad.

I wish I had a Lowe’s closer to me but they’re all pretty far away. Especially when I literally have a Home Depot less then 10 min away. I’ve heard good things about kobalt. Didn’t know the batteries were that cheap. A lot of the reviewers that get kobalt tools are pretty happy with them. I ended up buying Ryobi tools over 12 years ago and they’ve been great for me. I recently upgraded from my old blue tools to the new brushless stuff and it’s a huge jump in power and run time and quality. What I really like about Ryobi is they’re committed to the stem style battery. And haven’t changed it. And the price of the tools. They’re a fantastic value. Batteries are reasonably priced. Especially if you catch a sale. I used to be a ridgid fan before getting my Ryobi stuff. I had used some ridgid cordless power tools. I really liked them. So I bought some corded stuff. Then had issues with getting it warranted and decided the lifetime service agreement wasn’t worth it if the company won’t stand behind it.

The electronics inside the battery is actually a good thing. It ensures that each cell is not overcharged or over-drained which will permanently damage the battery and also prevent from it bursting into flames. People need to keep in mind that Lithium ion batteries need to be charged at least once every 3 months while in storage. I tend to forget stuff like this and my batteries end up dead or damaged.

I have no issues with Kobalt cordless tools but went with Ridgid for the lifetime service agreement to get the service agreement set up you have to register your tools sometimes they have trouble verifying the tools and send email saying you need to mail receipt all I did is call them and while on the phone email a screenshot of my online order receipt had it registered in 5 minutes you don't bring your tools to home Depot take them to a certified Ridgid repair center there are several near me. The lifetime warranty is for the life of the tool not the life of the person purchasing the tool I'm just a DIY guy so my tools should be under warranty the rest of my life seeing I'm over 50 years old and don't put that much wear and tear on my tools but If I used my tools on a daily basis I would probably go with Milwaukee. I think the Ridgid warranty is designed for DIY person because if you run your tools every day Ridgid will probably determine that you got your life out of them in 5 or so years it's all about each person's individual needs what works for one may not work for all I would just hate to buy a tool use it very little then go to use it one day it doesn't work and is past the warranty period with the batteries it's not very long 1 to maybe 3 years Ridgid covers batteries also.

Just went to Lowes today for a Kobalt warranty issue. Looks like Craftsman is taking over. The store could not order or stock a replacement.. was able to get a store credit.. would not buy any Kobalt anymore.. tool only as good as its warranty..😕
@FletchDoesIt6 жыл бұрын
John W Not sure what’s up with that John, but according to Kobalt tools, and Chervon (the manufacturer of the tools for Kobalt) that is incorrect and should not be happening.

OzarksTactical Homesteading ...try to get a 24" 1/2 drive kobalt ratchet warranty? They gave me a in store credit.. crapsman ratchets are strong but notice the sockets always fall off the drive..the kobalt ratchet drive was great! But broke at the swivel head.. weak point.

John W Ah... I hear ya. Although Kobalt’s power tools and hand tools aren’t made by the same company either though. Much like throughout Craftsman’s history, they never made their own tools and it varied but what type of tool who made it for them. Personally, I can’t see Lowe’s ditching their brand; Kobalt.

@@FletchDoesIt There are other tool reviewers that have asked Lowe's management if Kobalt was going to replace they're tools with Craftsman they said no Kobalt is going nowhere.

The 5ah battery was discontinued, but im really impressed with the tool line.

Hmmm, yeah that might be because the cost per amp hour was too high...
@FletchDoesIt6 жыл бұрын
There is a new 6.0 amp hour battery coming out. FYI.
Its not just the cells your paying for, but the whole technology the way those cells communicate with the tool, milwaukee red link is the best

Yeah I came to much the same conclusion you did but I ended up with the green tools from home depot. Pretty much the same deal. Great batteries. Great brush-less motors. The full sized impact wrench puts out 700 pounds of torque. Tire rotation is now quick and effortless. The green tools now have an option of 6AH batteries that are two for 120 or 60 each. I really like rechargeable tools They go where I go and generally when I am out around the farm I don't have power unless I want to drag out the generator etc...

Educated long ago. Know nothing brushless. Would love to see a cutaway on the motor with tutorial. Also what gears used? Is keyed Jacob's ™ .5" Chuck in the lineup? VSR? Much more to consider.
@FletchDoesIt6 жыл бұрын
Patriot Goose Heya, there are tear down videos already out. All metal construction on the innards for the most part. Yes, Jacobs chuck on the drill. They have been head-to-head tested and performed very well.
I wish he would have mentioned they are giving away a free blower or saw etc with 2 of the 4 amp batteries and charger for 129.00. They run this special every spring.

Yah.. the rigid and Ryobi warranty is why I am getting rid of my ryobis after last battery is trash. May do the kobalt line

I've heard that before as well... The Kobalt batteries are also much, much cheaper.

I've heard rumor that Lowes might be phasing out their Kobalt brand in favor of the Craftsman brand. Looking to get one of these, but not if they are going to discontinue it.

Kobalts batteries are different to the other power tool battery cause it has 6 cells instead of 5

"The more basic the battery, the better it is." This is just plain wrong. Lithium Ion batteries REQUIRE circuitry to monitor voltages and temperatures while charging and being used or you run the risk of thermal runaway and fire (or in rare cases: explosion).
@FletchDoesIt2 жыл бұрын
IMO in a perfect world I’d agree with you…. However in the China made world we actually live in, more crappy made chinesium circuitry does not make a better product. In fact it causes more failures which can be extremely costly vs. a safe basic set up with less circuitry. To each their own. 🍻

Kobalt comes out of the same factory as Snap-On
@FletchDoesIt5 жыл бұрын
Hiya Shawn. Thanks for participating in the discussion. Yes, the older hand tools (wrenches, sockets, ratchets etc...) were in fact made by the parent company of Snap-On. Kobalt 24v power tools are made by Chervon. (Not Chevron.) Good stuff either way...
