I have seven of the 24V Kobalt tools including this router. Actually, the router is my latest addition and has not been tested yet, but this video increases my confidence in my purchase. I'm in need of a battery powered router. Lo and behold, Kobalt has one of those too! Guess what my next purchase is?!? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I also have the four battery charging station and two other individual chargers, along with (3) of the 4Ah batteries and (1) 2Ah battery. Yes, I'll probably add another battery or two to my collection. I haven't tried the 6 Ah battery, so that may be my next battery purchase. I'm loving me some 24V Kobalt tools. I went to Harbor Freight and bought the blue work cart with bench top and drawers. I've set up my charging station on the bench top with all my tools lined up on it. I keep all of my manuals, warranties, receipts, contractor bags, and accessories in the drawers. Everything is one place. I just moved into a house with an 800 sf garage, so now it's time to start building my work benches, peg board tool stations, etc. Is my excitement showing?!?

Thx for the great plunge cut demo! I looked at Makita and a couple others that were quite a bit more $ than the Kobalt but decided to give the Kobalt a try since I already have a few batteries and I LOVE it. Very handy and much easier on batteries than I expected. Now I use it more than my router table.

I purchased one two months ago. I love it. It does a great job for its size. Now I don't have to bring out my much larger 115 volt AC router. I can grab this guy on the fly for a quick job. A real time saver for me. Barry

Thank you for a very helpful video! I learned about the lock collet feature thanks to you, and after banging and cursing many, many bits that just wouldn't break loose. Thanks again from a new subscriber. Mike

As another mentioned; you just snug the tension release lever nut and the geared adjuster will work well. Also I think you are mistaken about the “safety collet”. The idea behind the design of the collet was to help release the bit which, especially after use, would tend to stick. When I first saw these collets 30 to 35 years ago the sales rep for Porter Cable called them self ejecting collets. That seems a better description.

Great video! What is the router bit set you use?

Tim there’s most likely a nut close to the hinge of the lock lever that’ll take the play out of it when you adjust your depth. It’ll make it harder to close the lock lever, so be careful not to get it too tight. I’ve seen folks them get so tight they’ll crack the base or the lever when they close it, so just snug is best.

I had no idea the collet was supposed to work like that! I always found it annoying when I first got my router. I would break it loose, out down the wrench, then have to pick it right back up to loosen it more!

Does the factory base plate accommodate a template collar? I just ordered one (they're on sale) and I realize it's the one thing I did not verify before placing the order. If it doesn't, so be it, I'll deal with my purchase. If it does, great.

Did you use one 2amp battery throughout the whole video? If so do you remember how much battery power you had left

Yes, we used the same 2Ah battery. After all that we did, it had only dropped one bar. Thanks for watching.

phckng usual hype... that battery won't last a carrot ! Be prepared to charge 25 batteries and hook'em up in parallel so you can do some work... or have a generator with a Variac DC output.

He said he only used one bar of the 2Ah battery during this video demo. If you buy into the Kobalt line of tools as I have, you will have multiple batteries. Not everyone can afford that up front, but I have been building on my Kobalt line for about a year or better. I now have (3) of the 4 Ah batteries and (1) of the 2 Ah batteries. I have the four battery charging station plus two of the single battery chargers that came with specific tools. I mostly use the single station chargers when I take my camper out, or for quick, on the go work. I have a few different small contractor bags that allow me to pack whatever I need. If you're trying to mass produce pieces with a single tool, single battery, and a single charger,...you're doing it wrong from the start. Maybe you need to be tethered to a wall and the limits of your extension cord. Suit yourself.
