05-08 kobe was insane. Kobe improved his skills more than Jordan because he had to. He didn’t have Jordan’s athleticism and large hands. With their style of play, it was very risky to play because it was very obvious if they didn’t play well you can easily blame them. The problem I have with lebron (which is probably a good thing) is that his style of play really makes it hard to blame him for anything. His team will loose but you’ll look at stats and can’t blame him so you blame the teammates. When they win you look at levrons stats are like exactly the same even when he looses so then he gets the credit…. It’s a win win for him. I think that’s why Kobe always tried to taunt him early in lebrons career to take the last shot, because it forces you to take some form of blame

This is why debating with Jordan fans is annoying at times and redundant, 6 rings is their argument for him being number one to them but in the same breath they disregard Bill Russell’s 11 rings saying the era was different so it was easy for him but god forbid you say the same exact thing about Mike’s era and how it was easy for him when being compared to others like Lebron or Kobe. Todays era is filled with far more skilled players as a whole and the game itself is more difficult from a skill perspective because majority of the league has players equipped with the skill to score in bunches and make defensive plays whether starter or rotation player.

Honestly, if someone wanted to use just rings, Bill Russell is the only player you could clearly put above MJ. Everyone else it's easy to see why they're not #1. That puts his floor at #2 without considering anything else involving basketball that doesn't include rings. For skills, the NBA itself has said over and over it's changed rules to make scoring easier for wing players. It's like arguing And1 players were more skilled than NBA players when And1 was having their heyday. No, they weren't more skilled, they just didn't have the same rules. When they went under NBA rules, they didn't do shit. I won't argue the 3, but it's not a shock that once the NBA started making sure 3pt shooters got landing space we all of a sudden got this explosion of 3s from everyone. For competition, gotta let that one go too. The winners from most of Kobe/Lebron's era played at the tail end of MJ's era and they weren't bringing any smoke. There was no sudden overthrow of MJ and Bulls with new era talent. Shaq and Co. got worked by MJ and Bulls even when Shaq had a squad. Duncan and squad won while young and old across both Kobe/Bron's era. Shaq started the era and won while old with Wade. Dirk beat Bron directly when old with a lesser talented squad. Somehow today's players are more skilled and competition harder, but 38 y/o Duncan giving them work like he'd been doing his whole career? 33 y/o Dirk working more skilled KD and Westbrook and prime Bron and Wade? If this era is more skilled, how come during most of Kobe/Bron's era, their biggest competition was from older players (many of whom actually played against MJ)?

Tim Duncan wasn’t 38 doing anything to anyone in the league…at all…he also isn’t from MJs era, he came into the league the year before Mike retired. Dirk wasn’t old when he won, he also didn’t have a lesser talented roster when he won, Miami’s roster during the first year was a bunch of old cheap veterans alongside 3 young stars. The skilled players come in bunches and play each other on a nightly basis therefor the competition is spread out throughout the league and not just sprinkled here and there with one player being able to dominate because he plays for the best team in the league(who still made it to the finals without him). No matter what you say about the previous era, nothing they hold onto or we’re doing back then took an immense amount of skill especially defensively when all they did was foul and fight, no real skill involved. What rules were changed specifically for wing players? You’re just making things up, i can provide you with the entire list of rule changes that have been made in the league and none make todays league easier than prior or specifically easier to score. A 3 point shooter simply having feet space to land properly does not prevent shots from being contested nor blocked, it makes it harder which requires more SKILL and proper positioning and timing to contest or block the shot without fouling. Not being able to grab someone and hold them requires more SKILL due to having to get to a spot before the handler to prevent them from progressing towards the basket. Not being able to stand still in the paint to block shots requires more SKILL due to the rim protector having to rotate and constantly move to not only check his man but be aware of other players driving as well. If you really want to say Dallas had comparable talent to Miami and the series was expected to be close, then we fundamentally don't see basketball the same at all. Next you'll tell me Miami had more talent than all their opponents this year too. In '13 &'14, Duncan was anywhere from 1st-3rd best player on teams that went to the finals. He load managed a ton, but production-wise, was still one of the better/best PFs in the league. You won't get any argument from me whatsoever about today's players being better 3pt shooters compared to any era. But guess what, if you took any 3pt specialist and instantly placed him in 1975, his shooting "skill" wouldn't mean much cause he'd just be a low shot percentage shooter. Your argument about the difficulty in guarding a 3pt shooter works all types of ways. If it's harder to play defense because of the rules and that results in more skill being needed, then the exact opposite can be said when rules did not favor the offense. Harder to shoot a 3 when someone can hand check you or slide under your feet (using your logic). Does that mean offensive players are less skilled now than before? Since rules made it easier for offense, does that mean offenses are less skilled? Skill adapts to rules. Period. Your list of rule changes is so incomplete I'm not going to spend time addressing it. It also doesn't include the most important part which is interpretation of the rules and "emphasis" that refs are given or using throughout the season. The "gather" step didn't exist officially in the rule book until maybe a half decade ago. 2 steps and a shot has evolved in interpretation for the entirety of NBA history. I don't mind learning ball. I watch ball. I understand ball before I speak also. Disagreement is pretty normal even amongst HOF coaches (Phil Jackson vs. pretty much all of the modern NBA). Apply your advice to me to yourself.

Let me help you break it down then.. Kobe was more skilled version of Mj while Mj was 2% more efficient in scoring but let’s talk about it.. Kobe did everything MJ but a bit better except one thing Ball handling, Kobe had much better ball handling skills than Mj. Kobe mastered the footwork, Hakeem said Kobe had the best footwork he’s ever seen. Meanwhile Hakeem teaches footwork. The two years including the one where Kobe got MVP, is the peak in terms of defensive era. That is what caused the NBA to just completely abandon defense. Scoring was at an all-time low include all the offensive metrics like number of possessions, etc. Oh and by the way, the 40+ scoring streak, 81 pts game, and 60 in 3 quarter vs best defensive team also happened during this low era. Correction: I would not call it peak defensive era, more accurately is that those few years were the worst for scoring in NBA history.
