I’ve watched TONS of Kobo Libra Colour 2 videos in the past few days since Amazon announced their color e-reader, but yours is the most in-depth review I’ve found so thank you for your hard work! I’ve been a Kindle user for 10+ years (Paperwhite then Oasis in 2020), but all the features of the Kobo have won me over. Side note: Rakuten is a Japanese company, Kobo is just a subsidiary of theirs!

I got my Kobo Libra Colour in June and I'm so in love with it! I've had a Kindle since forever, but I'm a Kobo girlie now 🥰 My absolute favourite thing about it is that it works with Norwegian libraries through Libby, whereas my Kindle would only work with my one American library card.

8:28 I watched a couple of videos and they are all saying the same about the grain of Kobo colour series and how they are not liking it. I feel like you are the first to actually like the grain on the Kobo libra colour and I am agreeing with you. Nice and very detailed video! 👍🏼

I agree 😄 I’ve also been watching so many reviews as I wait for mine to come in. This will be my first ereader so I think it won’t be too bad since I’m not used to other ereaders. I also saw another reviewer show a nice close up and my eyes were so happy to see that texture on the screen it looked almost like linen. Hopefully I still like it once I get to actually experience it. 😅

It means so much to me❤️ Secondly, I totally agree with you - when I was researching the kobo the reviews and hearing how much people hate the grain is what made me hold off from buying it for so lonnnnggg, but finally I decided to give it a shot because what others hate or like I might feel differently and I am so glad I did! Reading on a device is so personal to every person and I feel like most of the time you can’t really tell the grain is there - it really doesn’t effect the sharpness of the screen imo 🥰

I’m so happy just looking at it through pics and videos lol 😍 I’m glad it’s been so helpful to your mental health. Reading (and annotating) helps me through stressful moments and gives me excitement so I’m looking forward to my ereading experience esp now with a stylus 😄 I hadn’t gotten one before because I didn’t think I’d enjoy just things being in black and white. As soon as I came across the Kobo Libra Color I thought it was perfect for my reading system. 😁 for now I don’t think I have many questions. I’ve been asking questions all over the internet and people have been helpful lol perhaps when I get it I’ll have more. I subbed, looking forward if you have any more ereading videos and your kobo journey. I read mostly library books so I look forward to see how that works on the ereader. Not sure yet which book I’ll read yet. I’m into classics like Victorian literature, non fiction (I homeschool so I like reading books on teaching) I look forward to branching out into fantasy maybe. Perhaps I may download one of Brandon Sanderson’s book, it’s a new one that had a really pretty green cover and drawings inside I believe. I haven’t read any of his books before but he’s often recommended. It’s called Tress of the Emerald Sea, but we will see.. so many possibilities 🤯 is there any book you’ve really enjoyed the experience with having read it on your kobo?

That's exactly why I returned mine. Alot of E-readers that offer color unfortunately take away from the contrast and are more grainy. I will have to wait until kindle releases a color e-reader in the future.

I had my oasis since 2019 n then I got the kobo colour Libra this year for my bday I love them both! ❤ I read all my epubs (Apple Books) on my kobo n my pdfs on my kindle so it’s been wonderful I transferred all my Apple eBooks onto my kobo n freed up storage on my iPhone 😊

You can put your own fonts on both the kindle and the kobo through the fonts folder. So you could download the font you liked on the kindle and put it on the kobo if you wanted

I have found that some fonts work really well on kobo and others don't, like Bionic fonts (Fast_sans). Even though I imported it, it doesn't show up :(

That grain actually sounds really cool to me! My favorite part of my Oasis has been how much it feels like reading a paper book, so anything that improves that feeling is super appealing. I am devastated Amazon isn't making a color Oasis with USB-C/Wireless Charging. I've been considering switching to the Kobo but I love how luxurious my Oasis feels. That metal is really niceeee and it's hard to image switching to plastic. I guess with a case it doesn't really matter though.

Your whole attitude changed when you started talking about the Oasis. 😂 I just think you prefer the Kobo much more. I thought about a color e-reader but for me it’s pointless unless you read manga or comics. That’s just my opinion. I have physical books if I’m so concerned about seeing the cover in color. Even when Amazon comes out with their new device in the future, I wont buy it just for color. Now if it’s color and has turn buttons then I may be sold. I just have way too many ebooks on my kindle paperwhite to switch over to a device that I can’t read them on. Again just my opinion. But I’m super glad you love your Kobo, Happy reading to you on both devices!

It takes a bit of work but you can read Kindle books on Kobo by using Calibre.

Great video. :) Can you tell me something about your brightness settings, how often you use Wifi on the Kobo Libra Colour, etc.? I've had mine for a little over two weeks, and I can't imagine getting a month's worth of battery out of it. I charged it two days ago, and it's already at 66%.

I have both as well. I have to say, they both have things I like and dislike. But in comparison, as the device as a whole, my oasis is hands down my favorite device that I've ever used. I will protect her with my life lol

The Oasis is a fine device. Mine is almost 7 years old. The crispness of the screen is unbeaten. I use it for reading that doesn’t need to be annotated. But I love the color feature, the UI, annotation posibility and notebooks on the KOBO device. The stylus is a nightmare. I use the stylus of my Microsoft surface pro (7 plus) with a HB nib. In short: both ereaders are in use on a daily base and I love them both.

Me too. I love my oasis 3 and I will not let it go for other brand or unit. I don’t mind if it is black and white since I don’t highlight that much. It’s also easy to transfer epub files to kindle. But maybe in the future, I will consider buying a new released colored e-reader but will still probably keep my oasis 3 with me❤

I’ve always used kobo I just love them! My library card being connected to it is fantastic. I got a kobo libra colour for Mother’s Day this year and I’m in love. I’m glad I’m supporting a Canadian company as well. So glad you like it!

I could see using the Kobo in addition to my Kindle. Not everyone will have that need or desire of course but I read a lot of arcs from indie authors who only send to Kindle email directly and KU exclusive indie authors. I really like the Libby option being directly on the kobo because that can be a pain sometimes. You’ve definitely convinced me to give Kobo a shot to see how it’ll work for me

You brought up some REALLY good points! KU has a huge and expansive library and kobo plus is just not there, YET! I am hoping as the brand gains popularity it opens up more possibilities for them.. As of right now here’s what my lineup looks like. I use my kobo MOST of the time I would say 90% of the time, but for traveling and someone if I just want to throw something in my bag with me in case I get a chance to read I bring my kindle paperwhite I have had for a few years. E reading is such a unique and personal journey- let me know what you end up thinking of the kobo😊 super excited to hear your thoughts!

I'm so confused about my kobo battery. It died within like 3 days idk how people are getting weeks out of it!? İ have a Kobo and a paperwhite but have been dying for an oasis and just saw they restocked FOUR of them 😍😍 kobo plus has been a complete fail for me so I need kindle unlimited, but i want the buttons lol

You should definitely contact customer service about your kobo - they should be able to provide you a solution or even replace it if it’s a battery issues. As far as kobo plus, I totally get it😩😭 I am hoping as they gain more popularity it allows them to expand their plus offerings. The switch for me was easy because I don’t have kindle unlimited, BUT I still have kindle paperwhite I was gifted a few years ago ❤️

I love having the buttons to read with- it’s a game changer! My only gripe with the refurbished oasis (like the one I purchased) is the battery died sooooo quickly. I was so bummed. For now I will stick to my kobo and paperwhite for travel

@@wintermutevi based on googling, kobo was founded in Canada and owned for quite a while by a Canadian company. It was bought by rakuten in 2012. While I’m sure ownership of the shares impacts the company behavior, it is still a business founded and headquartered in Canada. This is a pretty common business model unfortunately, e.g. Michaels craft store is a subsidiary of an asset management fund because it was acquired in 2021. We just don’t normally ever know about it or see the name of the buyer, but of course in rakutens case they want us to.

I got my Kobo Libra Color for slightly over 2 weeks before it broke due to a light fall with sleepcover, Kobo has got no answer to the quality control after communicating with them. They might offer you 20Euro to purchase a new device and that is it. On the other hand, my Kindle is holding up well after 9 years owning it without a cover.

Since last year Kindle supports epub, you just have to send it on your Kindle address (same process as mobi files)
