I did a bit of an experiment with colorplus a few months back and pulled it 1 stop. I was shooting in bright sunny conditions and was very surprised despite the very contrasty scene how much extra shadow detail I got and the grain was a little less apparent. Worth giving it a shot if you ever get a chance.

Very interesting! Would you be able to share your results somehow?

In the prior decades I had to lug my tripod around for low ISO films e.g Kodachrome 25 & Ektar 25 especially using f/8 & smaller apertures. I miss those days... 😉

Love the drama, and generic, royalty free soundtrack… in a word, scintillating.

Great video mate. I’m considering popping on a 80C filter to cool it down a little. What do you reckon?
@VariTimo5 ай бұрын
The big difference between Gold and Color Plus is that when you correct the Kodak warmth out during scanning, Gold will retain good saturation. That makes Gold more like Portra 400 and 800, where when you don’t want the warmth you can just tell the lab to scan them slightly cool and have a neutral and well saturation, balanced image. With Ultramax, it starts getting a tint in certain regions and Color Plus just becomes pretty muted, pretty fast.

Portra 400 is known for low saturation, and a more natural/realistic/muted look. That makes it very different from Kodak Gold and Ultramax (and more like Color Plus).
@VariTimo5 ай бұрын
@@Maartenols In the end a lot of that depends on how you scant it but Portra 400 has marginally lower saturation at box speed compared to Gold. At notmal magnification it’s hard to tell the difference between Portra 400 and Gold in daylight.

This film is scarce here in the UK, which is a shame because I love it and would use it as my go-to colour stock if the supplies were more reliable. It can look a bit drab on overcast days but I think it's ideal during the brighter months.

I checked current pricing and Kodak Color Plus is actually quite a bit more expensive than much better roll stocks (such as Portra 400). This is supposed to be a bargain film. But it doesn’t get priced this way. Color film will die off very soon if the market keeps this up.
@DaniloAllen2 жыл бұрын
that's a bummer to hear. For me it's still the cheapest colour negative at 9.50AUD for a 36exp. roll, whereas Portra 400 is 22.50AUD

@@DaniloAllen yeah there are shortages of color stock in the US particularly 135 format. Color Plus is selling for about 16.95 USD (about 25 AUD).
