Great video, I appreciate the side by side of the old Falcon. I love both these films, Ektar sunsets are amazing, and blue mountain lakes with peaks behind are amazing with Ektacrome.

Beautiful photos! Thanks for doing this comparison & making the video. I’m new to film (using a simple analog Kodak H35) & my first roll is the Ektar 100. I haven’t developed it yet, but I’m thinking about trying the Ektachrome as well. Read some comparison blog posts before this & I think your review just helped me decide!

Hi Marcus, another nice video and interesting comparison between Ektachrome 100 slide vs Ektar 100 negative film. Understand your hesitation on Ektarchrome as the colours are a bit colder than your style of photography. I'm much older than you and grew up on Kodachrome and Ektachrome, you chose Kodachrome for reds and yellows and Ektachrome for blues and greens. Keep up the good work. If I ever make it over the pond, I'll get you out to be my street photo tour guide for a day.... I'll treat you to a soft shell crab lunch at Lola's. Stay safe matey. Henry

Love your videos. I also have a GW690 and it's addictive to shoot with. Just knowing the size of the negatives you're capturing makes it exciting. It's fun watching someone else use the camera who loves it, too. Keep up the great work. Btw, Team Ektar all the way.

Just blitzed through all your Texas Leica videos as I've been curious for a while. Everyone seems to shoot the 6x7 look and I'm loving the 6x9. So much cheaper too, the camera, rather than shots for your buck. Keep up the great content. I'll be over on eBay trying to find a good deal.

Nicely made video. Lots of work gone into it. Nice work. I'm a big fan of both Ektar and Ektachrome (and Provia). Last year I bought a MF projector even (Hasselblad PCP 80) as I had plans to shoot it (Ektachrome and Provia) largely exclusively for all colour work. But to be honest, Ektar delivers such great results with added benefit of versatility and slightly more affordable, and I find it is great for portraiture too despite what people say about using it for that. Sure, one can not project Ektar or look at it on a lighttable with such splendour, but it scans so well and the prints look awesome. I recently used it (Ektar) to photograph classic cars of an up and coming edition of the MG Safety Fast magazine and the results looked amazing.

Same here brother. I just love the tones and flexibility you get from Ektar. It’s a one of the more underrated film stocks out there and decent price too. I’ve shot portraits with it and the skin tones were fine.

I'm not sue if you are aware of warming filters. With slide film you need to control your white balance with filters to get proper colour temperature. With negative film the colour correction takes place in the scanning. I have shot plenty of Ektar and Ektachrome and I would take Ektachrome every time but I also employ warming filters. I almost always have an 81A filter on the lens and I carry an 81C for the really cool light.

I also shot Ektachrome recently and disliked the blue cast. But not all the slide films are like that (at least when you expose them correctly). Provia for example has the most natural colors I know.

Yea thats true, I was hoping ektarchrome gave me some natural colors but it didnt, i also was turned off by velvia in the past. im going to take a roll of provia out for a spin.

All do current Kodak's Ektachrome is a nice film, it isn't actually something spectacular. But back in the day, I've been shooting Ektachrome Professional 100s, 100VS and 100SW. Now those films are putting even Fujichrome's Velvia to shame. Now that being said, Ektachrome Professional 100SW was the closest to Ektar in term of warm (ish) yet saturated colours. Just saying...

Please consider shooting in landscape mode. All these portrait shots of horizontal scenes, cut off the subjects and give film real estate to empty asphalt. The world is horizontal, your eyes are horizontal. Cameras are designed horizontal for a reason. I understand person style and choice in art. So I will just suggest, consider it anyway.
