I'm no expert on cinema gear but I feel you could definitely get a vintage 35mm setup for that, or at least near it!

the craziest part is people will still eat this up. kodak really went from being one of the biggest companies in the photography industry to being grifters.

At 6 thousand dollars??? Ain’t no way. This is gonna be like 100 dollars in 2 years.

Happy Thanksgiving! This price is ridiculous. If you convert one of these cameras into turkeys, you can buy approximately 109 turkeys at $50.35 per average sized turkey in the most expensive state for the bird, Hawaii or 208 turkeys for $26.35 in the cheapest turkey state, Mississippi.

Yooooo this is the true measurement of the day. Happy Thanksgiving to you too!! Thankful for the thoughtful comments like this :)

Would be cool if the camera doubled as a projector and digital scanner. Then that price would make sense

Look into what a Super 8 camera with a Max 8 gate, Crystal Sync, and Digital viewfinder would cost you to spec otherwise. And also not be brand new/be modified. The price is honestly what the market is right now for these things. It's just meant for professionals and rental houses and not to just have fun with.

I mean you still have to process the film, I think it captures a secondary feed video in parallel through a digital sensor (which is what feeds the screen) as a backup or something. But yeah this is stupid pricing, like they probably had insane development costs and they are trying to pass it to the customers to recover all the lost money through the years. And a part of me feels like this train has passed, like the hype there was for analog a few years back is quieting down, probably because of higher prices. So yeah let's see the customers with disposable 5k and then all the film development and processing costs.

That is why I prefaced that section by saying idk how it works. But I assume it's at the very least inverting the negatives in the feed, otherwise what would be the point of the LCD lol. I bet some smart people will find sneaky ways to use that HDMI. Even if it is solely meant for monitoring, I bet something like the Atomos Ninja V can record it. But if it is just some mega low res output I guess it doesn't matter. Either way, too rich for my blood haha

How could the camera playback the actual film footage? It‘s undeveloped film, there‘s no way. Guess it‘s just a digital image sensor on the other side of the prism or mirror inside the cam

You know I'm sure the camera is expensive, the tooling, the R&D, the expectancy that this is going to be a hyper niche product with very low sales so the price needs to justify the yield, etc. but man it's almost like they're trying to roll the last half decade of employee salaries into this thing and I'm not sure they had THAT huge of a team working on it. My hope is that this is similar to a lot of early adopter tech and later on maybe a cheaper model comes out (with USB C too, jesus) but that hinges on if this sells enough to justify a second model and I don't know about that. I'd honestly be okay if they just made a simple "repress" of an older model, like all the old features but with new parts, and even be willing to pay a pretty penny for it and maybe that's what we might see in future.

It's honestly the price people are already paying for something similar, but old and hacked together. Winning Time on HBO was filmed with Pro8mm Super 8 with Max8 gates. Right there thats $3500, and those don't have crystal sync or a digital viewfinder. If you want those, it's well over the $5500 Kodak wants. And it isn't built by Kodak.

Really dissapointed with Kodak. The Super 8 camera is just unaffordable, and I sooo DISLIKE the odd video style camera body. No real film viewfinder either? Kodak team, what on earth were you thinking? You're supposed to make the Super 8 camera and film affordable for all, not put people off. Take note of all the comments across social media, it might help you. Here endith the lesson :)
