For anyone who is new to the Kodiak Canvas Flex-Bow tent, I recommend reading the instructions before assembling, so you'll avoid making mistakes that may ruin your tent. Just a few observations about the video: 1) Use a rubber mallet instead of stepping on the stakes to avoid bending them, 2) Insert the spring-bow bars from the inside to the outside to prevent tearing the canvas (the ends with rubber tips should be leading), 3) Open windows and doors before raising the tent to equalize the pressure without creating suction, 4) Roll the awning under instead of over to prevent water collection when it's raining or snowing. Two more suggestions: always use a ground tarp for better ground insulation and tent protection and season the canvas the first time you set up the tent (i.e., thoroughly hose it down making sure you wet all the seams and let it dry thoroughly.) NEVER store your canvas tent damped or wet to prevent mold/mildew growth.

I bought a Coleman Tent 25 years ago that pioneered this exact technology. Exactly! It was the best tent ever. Used it until I bought a camper for my truck. And I sold the tent too, not losing any money. Great tent. Now I am back to tent camping and will buy this one again made by Kodiak.
@FalcoINC5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it has served me well. Funny you mention that 25 years ago they used this tech. I get a lot of folks come up and ask me what tent this is and how thick and durable it seems. I have come to like this better than the typical thin nylon tents used now days

Same tent here. Texas has hard soil so bought Lag bolts with washers and use cordless impact driver to screw down, also bought indoor outdoor carpet (HomeDepot) $42, watched vid before buying VX, like weight and compactness, EZ setup, also bought vestuble pole $22 to keep front awning straight and carpenter pole $12(Walmart) to raise-up awning above head height. Tri-fold makes tent more compact for storage. 200Ah Li-Po battery for primitive camping.

Have you had this out in warm/hot and wet weather yet? With no rain fly, it doesn't seem you can leave much of the ventilation open when it is raining. Seems the tent would get quite hot. For colder weather though, this tent looks great and I a interested in it.
@FalcoINC5 жыл бұрын
Not a combo of WARM and WET yet. It does vent really well but I can see what u mean if there was a blowing wind/rain. There is an over hang area on the sides with the triangle windows and I hav read that you can keep the top say 15-20% of the window unzipped and with the overlapping flap on the outside, it will not get wet. But I havent been in a blowing rain storm yet. Just a light drizzle. Im taking it out again in june so maybe I can get a update for ya if I get caught in the rain!

Tent stakes should be at a 45 deg angle away from the tent. That way they won't pull out in high winds.

can anyone tell me if there is any issue wuth this tent stretching over time and becoming saggy? I like how taught it is but I do not see any way to adjust poles to make up for the stretching of the fabric over time.....unless perhaps it does not stretch and instead shrinks up ? just curious ! it looks like a great tent!
@FalcoINC4 жыл бұрын
So I have had mine for about 2 years and probably 15-20 setups. I haven't noticed any stretching. I was caught in a huge rain storm for about 6-7 hours of rain and I thought it maybe looked like it started to sag. But I think it was due more to the material finally getting a tiny bit saturated. (I never got wet inside by the way) But as soon as it got some sun on it and dried it was back to just as taught as as it normally was. Maybe someone with a couple more years under their belt can give you a better idea.

*HOW DO YOU HEAT THE TENT DURING WINTER CAMPING WITHOUT A VENT FOR A WOOD STOVE?*
@FalcoINC5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kendall. Depends on the temps. Being a canvas tent, it actually retains a good bit of heat if you close up all the vents(more so than most nylon units iv used) so in most cases at temps down to 40F I dress warm and have a good sleeping bag and with two people's body heat inside I dont find it all that bad. One time when it was just me and it got down to mid/high 30's I ended up using a small portable heater set on a piece of wood and cracked the vents at the top. Id crank it on for about 15-20 min and let the tent warm up nicely and the canvas kept the place pretty warm for about an hour or more.

I had the same issue. One of the pins on the center bar allows the outer slip rod to move. Nothing in the instructions about it being that way.

Sorry for the late reply Ken. The roof bars only go in one way and if you didnt know exactly how to line them up and then press down the tension, it seems unnatural. After you set it up once or twice, Its a piece of cake.

As stated, I took this right out of the box and set it up with no directions to see how easy or hard it would be for the average person to get going. As this is not a normal free standing tent, I thought Id show people the nuances and differences this one takes to get up. Seeing as you didnt post any constructive criticism in your comment, I went to check out your video uploads expecting expert setup of this Kodiak tent or any tent setups in general. Surprise, you have nothing to show. Thanks for the useless comment.
