Migratory bird hunters in Alaska have numerous opportunities to harvest waterfowl - however Alaska Sea Duck hunting on Kodiak Island is not recommended for the faint of heart. In Alaska just getting to the hunting location can be the adventure. When Mother-Nature behaves, and the sea ducks start flying, you'll experience the trip of a lifetime.

Duck hunts are super fun to film and of course duck hunting in general is fun. Duck hunters are a passionate group of dedicated hunters who just love to be out on the water any chance they get.

Wind kicking-up and ice-coated decoys are the items that ruin the day......and the worst is the boat being swamped!! Even wearing life vests, who's out there to rescue you in short time?? All-in-all, diver hunting is GREAT when it's GREAT!

What time are the birds a plumed out and when are the harlequins there
@AlaskaDH01

We don’t usually harvest Harlys until after 15th of November due to pin feathers. They look great way before this time no doubt.. but your taxidermist will not like it..😜

Do people actaully come far and wide to get those Common Mergs? Only reason I ask is cause we have so many of them late season here in Minnesota. About the same time we get common Goldeneye we get the common mergs

I don’t know anyone that comes just for Merkes. It’s just a opportunity that presents itself while they’re out chasing sea ducks, goldeneyes, etc..

The furthest decoy should be no more than 40-yards from the blind......far less cripples for sure! Most of all...DO NOT take safety for granted!👍

We call the birds you guys a hunting poop ducks/fish ducks. But we don’t eat those because they don’t taste good. I was raised in a way that if you kill something you eat it so I don’t kill poop/fish ducks, I only kill mallards and geese.
